The bust on Metellus I think…

The bust on Metellus I think has to do with scheme.  Looks like he saw a crossing route and engaged. MSU planned for this with a cross to post double move. I saw this in another game and see it as a counter to the switching we have employed on the crossing route.  The safety coming down hard can get run past like the two busts in this game. Hopefully will get cleaned up.

play of 77

I think that this was a pass from the start. How Lewan got from the LT position to assist in blocking for Gallon is beyond my understanding but he must have been anticipating a quick pass from the start of the play.

From Bacon on the subject

I asked Bacon this very same question at a function and he stated that the administration really hampered his ability to get Casteel to AA. The budget that they set for the DC was less than what Casteel was making at WVU. The question then becomes, would you uproot your family for less money into a new town environment and additional uncertanties?

Area of concern When Brian was doing his game analysis, the team showed a weakness with this type of formation to passes to the flats on swing routes. To protect for this play under the based cover-3 zone under, the SS would have position himslef to support the run or blitz, while at the same time cover the route. To over the route, he would be inside of the reciever and have to cover as the reciever heads out. It would also be difficult for the corner to provide aggressive support since he would have to drop back to provide the Deep 1/3 coverage. How would the 3-3-5 protect for that? Would we go man more? If our SS are fast enough, then could they drop back to cover the deep 1/3? But would that pull them from the line support role? I know that it is just one play, but the main fustration of last year's defense conjures up images of the cornerback lining up 9 yards deep and the safety not being able to stop that pass.
Is the article really that insightful? My issue with the quote from Mack Brown is that if you had that level of talent on across your defense you could stop any type of offense. You have 7 guy in the back that can that can cover man to man and 4 guy up from that can get pressure without a blitz. If you had that, on any running play you could run/ pass blitz all day with 6 or more, depending on if the TE stays in for pass protection. Am I confused about this?
Penn State Golf Course Status Just called... the guy on the phone said probably not... due to continued showers and tyhe fact that it looks like it will not break until into the morning.
