Are blocked shots exluded from # of shots at the rim? I could see that adding 10-20 attempts for Irvin if blocked attempts are included.

He apparently did not participate in warm ups.

Cause allegedly taking HGH while rehabbing an injury is just like systematic misconduct while handling sexual assault cases.
|4 days 17 hours ago||Including 2008||
Including 2008 is misleading. Also, I think you're getting ahead of yourself saying we are "on pace" to miss the tourney. Latest bracketology has us as a 9.
|4 days 18 hours ago||General Agreement||
One down year and another very mediocre one are not cause for hot seat talk given the success the three years prior. I also agree firing a coach is in and of itself not a solution.
HOWEVA, as you pointed out, the reason we had great back to back tourney runs was because of NBA talent. It doesn't matter if they are hidden gems like Burke and LeVert, or 5 stars like GRIII and McGary, just as long as you have the talent.
Right now, we don't have that talent. We've gotten unlucky with injuries, but look at the success we had without a star in McGary in '14. So if you don't have the talent, you better have a bunch of hard working, upper-classmen and some defensive tenacity. We are playing the worst defense since Ellerbe (see kenpom). Projecting forward, Beilein better be hoping Wagner and his '16 class pan out, otherwise things don't look too hot.

I don't think anyone knows. That's why I mentioned his name specifically rather than just counting him as a guarenteed scholarship. There was also talk of a greyshirt up until NSD, but Harbaugh seemed to nix that idea in his presser, so who knows.

Not that I'm worried, but the number is actually 91 including Glasgow, Allen and Dytarious Johnson as scholarships.

But we're lucky he even returned for a senior year, so...
|6 days 15 hours ago||Partial Agreement||
His success through 2014 definitely buys him some cushion against hot seat talk. That said, I am worried about the future. Ultimately, talent is what gets you to final fours and wins big ten championships. That's true even for Beilein, and I'm not talking about recruiting rankings, I'm talking about NBA talent. The '13 and '14 teams had loads of talent. This team does not. You can chalk it up to Levert's injury, but we got a bit lucky that he even came back this year.
I'll give Beilein the benefit of the doubt that he seems to have had some bad luck in how the trio of Walton, Irvin, and Chatman turned out. On top of that, there haven't been any hidden gems, as of now. Bad luck may it be, Wagner and the '15 class better pan out because if they don't then he will be on the hot seat.

Does G Matt coach Gary or do we let Gary coach G Matt?

How anyone upvoted your post is a mystery to me. Molk made it exceedingly and bizarrely obvious.

I certainly have no problem with that opinion, but I'm going to stand up for the integrity of my statements with careful arguments, as opposed to most of the responses in this string here, including yours, that are just unqualified statements or opinions.
As an aside, DFW has also had quite a few discussions (recorded and written) on the role and dangers of cynicism in society. I find cynicism to be an interesting and important subject and not just some word.
|1 week 3 days ago||And||
And of course you don't state how/why. I understand that it is a word very often misused, but whatever you might think of my handle, you cannot make a case for it being cynical by any commonly accepted definition of the word. Whereas, disimissing the value of a book on the basis of skepticism of the motives of others, is quite literally cynicism.
|1 week 3 days ago||No||
Completely false comparisons. I said that denigrating a book on the basis that it's a book people only read because they are trying to prove their intelligence is cynical. It is rejecting the value in something based on skepticism and distrust of peoples movtives. That is the exact essence of cynicism.
My username came about because I couldn't think of a username. It is not meant to poke fun of anyone, denigrate anything, or demonstrate anything. Even if it were me trying to say "look how clever I am," that is still not cynicism. There is no contempt, there is no distrust, no skepticism, no rejection of value.
Anyway, I have said my piece. I don't expect you to accept it, but no rational argument has been made to counter it.
|1 week 3 days ago||Rather||
Rather than just saying things baselessly, I'll actually show you how you are incorrect.
Definition: Believing or showing the belief that people are motivated chiefly by base or selfish concerns; skeptical of the motives of others.
Cynics chose to denigrate things because of their inherent skepticism in values they chose to reject and general mistrust of people and society. So when a book like Infinite Jest is lauded, a typical cynical reaction is to dismiss the book entirely based off some ridiculous notion that only people who want to appear smart would read and discuss it. A cynic finds it very difficult to believe that there may be genuine satisfcation gained by reading and discussing the book and that the book may have a value they do not appreciate.
My handle has literally nothing to do with cynicism. Cynicism is inherently negative. A lot of people use the word cynical interchangably with words like irreverent, satirical, skeptical, etc. None of those share the same meaning.
|1 week 3 days ago||I'm not sure||
I'm not sure you really grasp what cynical means.
|1 week 3 days ago||This is||
This is such a cynical viewpoint and unsurprisingly almost always made by people who haven't read the book.
|1 week 3 days ago||I think||
I think it is the single most rewarding book I've ever read. I read it the month before starting grad school after having left a job when I could really dedicate time to it. I don't think it's the kind of book you can read casually.
As far as your concerns, I found the first ~200 pages close to unreadable, especially some of the dialogue in the halfway house setting. It reminded me of Naked Lunch, a book I could not finish. Once you get accostomed to the colloquial verbiage and acronyms, you can really start investing in the plot. Ultimately, it was the plot and even moreso the characters that absolutely hooked me. DFW's modern use of language may be unparalleled, but the characters I think really make this book. Things eventually do come together, but it takes a great deal of set up, which is probably where you are a bit stuck. Keep going and I think you'll be hooked.
Someday I hope to get through the first 100 pages of Gravity's Rainbow. Haven't succeeded yet.

Shaka's style leads to upsets, that's what made him successful at VCU, and that's why the RPI likes them. They are dangerous due to style, but I don't agree that they are very talented and they are not nearly consistent enough to be 21. They could close out strong, but to date I'd take Michigan's resume over theirs and I think #30 is about right for us.

Interesting that between 3.0 - 4.0, it looks pretty much like noise. It's above and below that range that there seems to be the main contributions to the 0.13 r^2 value.

"If he doesn't go to Michigan, he will go to a school that does the same things, if not worse."
Yet another baseless assertion that gets thrown around here to make people feel better about themselves.
