11warriors on picking up 11warriors on picking up girls: 'She didnt reject me. I just realized that we wouldn't make a good couple. And she wasn't hot enough'
Bettman is just a figurehead

The owners voted unanimously for the lockout. Since then both the players and the owners have rejected proposals.  The players and the owners are both at fault, and ones that lose the most are the people that rely on traffic to the games to make a living and the fans.  I guess I'll be spending the money I had saved for the winter classic on tickets to the Yost instead.

I don't like the idea of paying players

because I don't think colleges should be in the business of running a professional sports league, but this is a different issue entirely.  For games or merchandise, you effectively have a thrid party using player's intellectual property for profit without them getting compensation.  If EA had poached some EECS student's code or plagerized a student research paper everyone would be up in arms about it.  From an IP standpoint, this is basically the same thing.

I like the 30th overall part,

Given the farm system, I'm inclined to believe that the wings will be taking a defenseman in the first round.  They already have pleanty of talented forwards, even if Smith and Kindl both look like they'll be extremely good on the blue line.

Without shootouts

The streak would have ended at 15.   This was only the second shootout at home this year; at home they really have been as good as the 22-2-1 record indicates.  This makes their .500 record on the road puzzling because they've also been as bad on the road as their record indicates.

I'm guessing that they'd need

to establish that they are the owner of the IP and that the site was illegally using it; which is probably a more sensible approach than a full scale trial for each case. This probably wouldn't be that big of a deal if the US gov could hammer out solid guidelines for what constitutes fair use.

I guess it depends on how you look at it

I you steal a cd directly from the factory the loss from the theft is a couple cents, maybe not even that much. Either way almost all the loss felt by the supplier is through fewer sales to amortize high development costs of IP, not from loss of property.

If you're still in town

I highly recommend heading to Yost tonight for the game vs Ohio State. There's nothing like the atmosphere at a Michigan hockey game. Tickets should be around $20

We all make mistakes

But mistakes have consequences. Paint a happy face on his actions, ignore the conflict of interest. Say it was denial; being unable to believe that a colleague was capable of doing something so terrible. The consequence of being in a position of power and doing the legal minimum were unspeakable. He failed those kids, he disgraced the university. Failure had consequences, losing his job is one of them.

Look at the schedule

Minnesota and Purdue don't provide a compelling reason to get up early on a Saturday morning.   Going back to 2006, I didn't see anything out of the ordinary yesterday.

Yes

I'm all for hating rivals... on the field. I hope we play the Irish every year and grind them into dust. Hating them to the point that we don't want to play them in order to damage their program is ridiculous and defeats the purpose of a sports rivalry.

We couldn't do anything against their blitzes

At this point you just hope that MSU had the best front 7 we'll face and that the players can properly execute whatever new blitz pickup packages the coaches introduce to counter this.    Unless Sparty runs the table against the remaining conference schedule (vs Wisconsin next week), we've still got a good shot at winning the Legends division.

I'd prefer that the MMB

trolled hard with a car-song show.

I know a guy

with two kids with clean records. He can send one if them after this fake buckeye and the other after Bauserman. They've got clean records so they won't get any time.

I don't care who wins

Watching Bauserman chuck wounded ducks 30 yards downfield to no one and make futile attempts to roll out of the pocket before getting sacked is the funniest thing I've seen all week.

We'll see it in garbage time

If you can't move the ball on eastern out of the I, no one is going to panic trying to prepare for it.  Look at the game yesterday.  Michigan ran primarily out of the shotgun until they were up by three touchdowns, and after SDSU scored, they went back to the shotgun for the 4th TD.   If they can get more than 2 ypc out of the I and if Denard can make effective throws out of the I, then we might start seeing more of it.

My Take

The Good:

Offensive Playcalling 1st half.  The coaches are learning.  We suck with I formations and Denard under center.   They didn 't break them out full time until the second half with a 3 TD lead.

Speed Option (!)  Possibly the first ever Michigan speed option play gets taken to the house by Denard.  They brought it out again and Denard pitched it for a first down.  Correct reads both times.

Deffensive pressure on Lindley.  From the preview, SDSU was supposed to have a pretty good offensive line.  The D only got one sack, but alot of the bad throws were force by pressure on the QB.

Red Zone offense: Still perfect, fantastic fake handoff TD run by Denard and great run by Smith to seal the game

The Bad

Denard passing.  Regressed Mechanics, lack of experience in the pocket, new reads?  All of the above?  He did alright with the short routes and screens though.

Offensive Playcalling second half.  Lloydball until SDSU scored the TD.   I get that they want to work on the new stuff and probably didn't want to run up the score on their old team, but couldn't this have waited until the fourth quarter?   This game was a fumble recovery away from being a one score game with tons of time left.

Hopkins.   Rember when all our kick returners kept dropping the ball and inexplicably didn't lose their job?  It seems like Hopkins is the new guy that can't hold onto the ball but inexplicably gets playing time.

Koger's hands.  Tried to catch the ball with his chest twice today.   Resulted in a dropped 1st down conversion and a deflection that was intercepted.

Field goal kicking.  Still crap from beyond 25 yards until it proves otherwise.

Probably not

But they're a 3-0 team with blowout wins from a BCS auto qualifier conference.   Right now that's as good of a claim as any team ranked between 20 and 25.

Michigan was 26th in both of the last poles

5 of the 15-25 teams lost.  Notre Dame and Western Michigan both had impressive wins.   Most of the other unranked teams receiving votes lost or had ugly wins this week.  I don't see any way that Michigan, Illionois, USC and Georgia Tech aren't  going to end up in the top 25 this week; top 25 after week 3 is still meaningless though.

That,

or Hagerup will be a Junior next year and Wyle (recruited as a kicker) hasn't looked that great as a punter.  I"m guesing that the preferred walk on means he won't get the scholarship until Hagerup  graduates.

Joe Bauserman is like Nick Sheridan

but slower and less accurate.   In 33 seconds, they'll be just 4 undefeated Big 10 teams left

I agree with you about the way Michigan looks

but going 7-5 means that we beat the teams we should definitely beat (SDSU, Minnesota, Purdue) and go 1-4 the rest of the schedule.  The Big 10 looks horrible this year, as we are now someone in that group is going to get Denarded, someone is going to get RPS'd by Mattison.  8 wins seam much more likely than 7, 9 isn't that unreasonable (add Northwestern, Iowa and one more to get to 9).

edit: More reason for optimism; the D's going to look better once Hagerup comes back and the oponents stop playing on short fields

ESPN guys:

"Jacory Harris got the start because he is the better game manager"

What?

It'll be interesting to see

It'll be interesting to see how we play against a 3-3-5 defense.   The only other time our players have seen one is in practice against GERG.

You guys make it sound like

You guys make it sound like the OSU-Miami game means something.  It's not like either team is going to keep the win.

I don't see the need for us to use pro style set regularly

Our QB, HBs and O line are 2008 Michigan bad at executing it, and they're our starters through next season.   Use it as a change up in game and work on it in practice and garbage time.  Michigan won't be equipped to run a proper hybrid offense until 2013 with Gardner and early contributors from the mega class; we dion't need to try and shoehorn the current guys into the new system. Starting out a game with a manball tirefire isn't going to end well against better competition.

Or maybe I'm just being oversensitive about the issue because every game this season has started out with Michigan looking like the 2008 offense with the 2010 defense. I guess I'm wrong about the issue until we actullu lose a game because of pro style incompetence, but we came damn close against the Irish.

Stopping Floyd?

Probably not going to happen.  I think the game is going to look a lot like last year.  Winning is going to be about getting pressure on their quarterback and our offense making more big plays and less mistakes than theirs.   Hopefully home field advantage swings that in our favor.

The future at QB is bright

Another year of Denard, 5* Gardner, then 5* Morris

Doesn't look too bad

and that's still ignoring the fact that he broke Hasek's ridiculous regular season save percentage record.

Yeah,

If there was a time to bitch about Dombrowski it was after the god awful Robertson, Willis et all contract extensions.   Since then the moves he's made have, for the most part, worked out.   Peralta is having an all star year and was acquired for nothing.   Martinez is the only big name free agent acquired in the offseason that isn't underperforming at the plate.  Dumb luck or not, the depleted farm system seems to have produced two quality players in Boesch and Avila.   The team has holes, but with the young team age, the tigers have got several years to address them and make a run at a championship.  Getting quality 2nd and 3rd basemen and a true leadoff man in the offseason will go a long way towards that.

We're spoiled with U of M sports and the Ken Holland Red Wings. The way the MLB is set up, the Tigers are never going to be the Yankees or Red Socks because they can't outbid them for the top free agents and for the top prospects.

Yeah

I was expecting the Tatgate to result in tressel getting show-claused and vacated wins; basically what tsio self imposed. After the car thing came out and all the reports on tressel's history, it still feels like a disappointment.

I want to believe that the line about lack of institutional control is foreshadowing things to come, but it sounds more like a bureaucratic organization reserving the right to use the current charges in a hypothetical later case, like points on a drivers license.

I'm trying to figure out how

Michigan could be in the same kind of trouble as OSU.  Hypothetically the coaching staff has had exactly 0 games to knowingly play ineligible players.

Not a good sign,

when NBC treats your program like Gary Bettman's NHL.   Maybe they'll have to play back to back games in week six to make room for the new tonight show.
