Going to need all three of Kinnel, Hudson, and Metellus to play a ton next year. Good to see Metellus pass his first audition (albeit against Rutgers). Can see a future where Hudson/Metellus line up all over the field like we've seen out of Peppers and Delano Hill with Kinnel the deep man stepping in for Thomas.

I don't think anyone would argue RR's system is cutting edge in the way it was a decade ago. The argument is that his system has continuity and longevity with the players and staff at Arizona. Because of that, they are "ready" for most common defensive looks without the need to drastically change their playbook every week. It's not a call to how effective his offenses are today, so true or not, there's really no need to bash the guy any more than he already has been.

Well, Michigan is penalized for a matchup with conference foe Rutgers (#120!! FEI), while Texas A&M is not for their meeting with Prairie View A&M as FEI doesn't count games against FCS competition. Obviously that's not the entirety of the difference, but this affects SOS and also contributes to some stark contrasts between the FEI and S&P+. This is most apparent for teams that lost to FCS foes:

Nah, keep Nebraska and add OU as a true rival for them. Dump the other three though.

I like this game to be at 3:30 typically. HOWEVA, this will be the premier game at Noon, allowing the entire country to tune in for the reckoning Sparty has coming to them. If it were in Ann Arbor and I were going I'd be mildly disappointed, but this will still be a good excuse to get to the bar early and celebrate all day.

I think the fairest take on Speight and the QB position in 2017 and moving forward is that just like any other position on a Harbuagh team, players will compete in Spring and possibly Fall camp for the job. Starting gigs are earned, not given.
Speight has been good, not great so far this season. His experience and proven performance has certainly given him a legitimate leg up on the competition. It hasn't been good enough to make him a lock to retain the job. but Peters (or whoever) will still need to show a lot to unseat him.

I'm a big fancystats guy, but can we all talk about Penn State being #17 in S&P? Seems utterly ridiculous halfway through the season now that there is enough data to smooth out some noise.

It's really easy to show up when Michigan State, Indiana, or Wisconsin comes to town. Other than major B1G games and if we draw a Duke/Arizona in nonconference, I'd say the environment in Crisler has been lacking. Sure, it was better during the 2012-14 stretch when we were pretty great on the court, but we should be at that standard always. I'll give you seven reasons our attendence is tepid (other than just poor play):
Howard, IUPUI, Mt. St. Mary's, Kennesaw State, Central Arkansas, Maryland-Eastern Shore, and Furman.
Those are 7 of our 9 OOC opponents. As a student, I would probably have skipped half of those to study, play IM sports, or go out with friends. We need to stop with the Maryland-Eastern Shore's of the world and fill half of those uglier matchups with regional foes from the MAC or teams like Oakland and Detroit. That would be a boon for attendence as well as SOS.

Agreed on DJ Wilson. Just don't think he's good. Other than some natural shot blocking ability because of his length, I haven't seen any part of his game that is obviously B1G caliber. As ever, I'd love to be proven wrong and for him to be a late bloomer, but it's getting late early for him if he doesn't take a big leap this season.
|1 week 1 day ago||And that was the freshman||
And that was the freshman version of Harris. An absolute headcase as well as an incredibly inefficient volume scorer. Sims was a good, not great player in his second season and first as a starter. Udoh? Probably not used correctly in Beilein's system, but he really is only an athletic shot blocker. Ignore his high draft choice, he's already washed out and is playing overseas.
|1 week 1 day ago||Yeah, I said it was odd that||
Yeah, I said it was odd that they burned the redshirts of both new TEs. Causes a logjam of 5 in the same "class" (although by spring we may be calling Gentry a WR). Even with Bunting nicked up, it's not like we've needed to dip down to our 6th and 7th TEs, including Jocz as a minor contributor as a walk-on.

It'd be nice to get that quote in context before everyone freaks out about this.
|1 week 1 day ago||Now that the dust has settled||
Now that the dust has settled on this a bit, I think the mass-burning of redshirts makes more sense looking back. McKeon/Eubanks were odd given TE depth, and Kingston Davis is likewise pretty buried on a loaded depth chart at RB. Many of the rest are either contributors, an injury away from the two-deep, and/or expected to be a key piece at their position in 2017.
|1 week 1 day ago||He got some snaps early on||
He got some snaps early on against Hawaii (2 tackles) and UCF (1 tackle, 1 hurry). Between the blowouts on the field and injuries to Hurst and Charlton, there was far more to go around back then. Not sure if he saw the field against Rutgers, but I wouldn't have expected him to play much in competitive games against Colorado or Wisconsin at least.
|1 week 4 days ago||We shall see. If he is, that||
We shall see. If he is, that means he beat out Peters twice. Speight has had a nice season, but not dominant enough that Harbaugh won't give others a chance to win the job in each offseason. It's not in his way to gift wrap the job just because of the previous season.

Agree wholeheartedly. Here's to rooting for a Heisman and National Title this year that lets Jabrill ride off into the sunset a Top 5 pick and legend forevermore in Ann Arbor.
|1 week 4 days ago||So that game was a savage||
So that game was a savage beatdown itself. 48-3 and under 200 total yards through 3 quarters. That they didn't step on the neck as much we did in the 4th quarter shouldn't be held against them. Also, at least Rutgers had Janarion Grant back then.

I think most agree that Noon works for The Game. But honestly man, you just prefer Noon games personally and hide behind a Bo quote from 40 years ago as if that should forever be gospel for all home games. I can guarantee Yost and Crisler said and believed some outdated things in their time, and not all Michigan "traditions" warrant continuing in perpetuity.

I could be wrong on this, but I haven't noticed any instances of the regional ABC/ESPN2 mirror that was a mainstay in recent seasons, particularly in the 3:30 slot. They seem to have done away with the old "coverage maps", although surely they could return later in the year.

Not sure how these hold up, but if they're good shirts I don't get this take. But buying 2 shirts for $50-60 isn't some insane investment if they do fit well and last.
|3 weeks 11 hours ago||Idk man. We haven't spent a||
Idk man. We haven't spent a ton of time in the top 10 ourselves in my 14-ish years following the program. In the seasons since that 2003 win over OSU:
2015: Losses to MSU and OSU kept us from ever creeping into it (highest in AP #12)
I count five seasons we never sniffed the Top 10 (08, 09, 10, 13, 14). Four that were derailed early with varying degrees of success after (04, 05, 07, 12). Two that saw us as late risers under new coaches but didn't quite reach Top 10 level (11, 15). And 2006, maybe our best team since 1997 until this year.
I'm not blaming our opponents for Michigan being irrelevant nationally for most of the past decade.

Childhood friend of mine played there. Madison and Camp Randall are great.
HOWEVA, I believe we're going to win pretty easily tomorrow.
|4 weeks 15 hours ago||I thought those numbers||
I thought those numbers seemed off so I checked Rudock's game log. I think the comparison is misleading. Rudock versus UNLV and Oregon State:
32-48 for 303 yards (6.3 YPA) with 1 TD and 2 INT
Each had a rough game (although @Utah was certainly a tougher spot than Colorado), but Speight showed far more precision and downfield passing against the weaker foes than did Rudock. Speight versus Hawaii and UCF:
35-50 for 457 yards (9.1 YPA) with 7 TD and 1 INT
Wilton may not reach the level Rudock hit late in 2015, but if the OL can protect better than last week, I expect he'll limit mistakes and make plenty of good throws. How the OL and QB fare in the games circled before the season (Wisconsin, @MSU, @Iowa, @Ohio State) featuring strong defenses will probably decide UM's fate. That and if our D can figure out the Buckeyes spread-n-shred.
