I think Chesson's breakoutend to the season and NFL upside are why he's given more credit nationally. Darboh may yet have the better season, but I think we more or less know what he is. More of a Hemingway/Avant type that still has a shot to play in the NFL a long time but will never be a Biletnikoff contender or high-end NFL receiver. Chesson may not accomplish those feats either, but his unique speed/height combo gives him a higher ceiling.

Hoping we formally get that QB announcement. Also would like to see a two-deep. I don't think there is really any "gamesmanship" advantage keeping this stuff away from Hawaii (or UCF and Colorado for that matter).

I'd be pretty surprised if a redshirt junior Ways doesn't win one of the two starting WR spots next year. Based off practice hype, willingness as a blocker, improved hands, and likely the most experience, he should at least be a steady hand as WR2.

I know it's a niche "position" but I see O'Maury Samuels as more of a Hybrid RB/Slot or Space Back (whatever it is we end up calling it) than a true Harbaugh RB.

Feels more and more like the only "Hello From the Future" commits that stick are the in-state or legacy kids. Getting excited about kids that haven't even started their junior high school football season was a little crazy anyway. This hurts with the high-profile players for sure, but if we have the season the fanbase is hoping for, our 2018 class will be just fine.

I generally shy away from concessions unless desparate for food... But the best strategy in the student section is to leave with 2-3 minutes left in the 2nd quarter, hit the restroom, grab your food, and polish it off at halftime while everybody takes a break from standing.

We are only 12 days from Game Week 1. The summer sports doldrums are ending as the boys in blue are at work in camp. I don't want to get too excited until we get that monkey off our back either, but why be on the internet if all you're going to do is make the same tired "joke" for 2 more months?

I hate the SEC's FCS Saturday in November as much as anybody... But Bama has USC (neutral), @Ole Miss, @Arkansas, @Tennessee, and @LSU this year. I would schedule Kent State, Western Kentucky (#6 in Connelly's Group of 5 rankings btw), and Chattanooga too if faced with that gauntlet.

At least he's mentioned in the blurb. Still a little odd. Also mentioning Kalis over Braden at OG is a swing and a miss.

I couldn't really put my finger on what I liked about them but now I realize that's it. All the attempts at different piping/outlines never really took. Simple, clean, and understated is perfect.

The "projection" of them going into Seattle and winning 26-7 is pretty hilarious.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||I don't want to risk this in||
I don't want to risk this in general, but the idea of them working on this a little in practice throughout and unleashing in our critical games @Sparty, @Iowa, @Ohio State, and potentially beyond... That much is enticing. And sounds pretty Harbaugh.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||This. He puts a hell of a lot||
This. He puts a hell of a lot of thought into these, and even if he went the extra mile on the 40 or so teams that are followed/analyzed the most, it would make an ambitious summer project that much more difficult. In any case, we already read Brian and other M writers' opinions on these topics. I find the outsider/data-driven approach refreshing as it paints a different, if imperfect picture of the upcoming season.
Regarding DL depth... I think that is a concern for almost any team without the recruiting prowess and/or stability of an Alabama. Injuries do happen. This is football. If Michigan were to lose 2-3 guys, even just for a couple weeks at a time, a group that looks as formidable as our DL does right now on paper becomes mortal. That is his point. Not that our group now isn't great or even somewhat deep, just that it fell apart (relatively so) after two key guys went down a year ago.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||I agree,||
I agree, Wormley/Glasgow/Charlton should be our top 3 DL in some order... BUT, what if Gary IS the best by the end of the year? That would actually be pretty exciting!

I don't see it like that at all. On the contrary, I feel like this is the first year a lot of our commits and realistic targets have been risers throughout the first half of the process.

Don't be a rankings slave! Besides, we have plenty of slot types in the 2016 class, Collins is 6'5". Do want an outside WR with size, especially from right under Nick Saban's nose.

I don't think this is the right attitude to UM hoops recruiting these days. The problem is not so much at guard. Beilein's guard recruiting:
Uhhhh, ya think?

Encouraging boosts for many targets. I just want DPJ, Ambry Thomas, and JKP in the fold to build that fence around the state, particularly SE Michigan.

In a fictional world, it'd be a joy to dump Rutgers and Maryland for OU and Ok St:
Northwestern arguably loses out in this alignment, missing yearly turns against Illinois and Wisconsin (also Iowa, a matchup that has produced some fun games). Otherwise this would be more geographically and competitively balanced than ever before. Considering the revenue/markets reality of this, it won't happen, but this would be a great conference!
|5 weeks 6 days ago||While I don't watch||
While I don't watch recruiting tape like some do, I do recall plenty of Luck comparisons for Peters from onlookers (whether circumstancial or actually based on his game, I can't say). I'd be curious what McCaffery's YMRMFSPA is headed towards.
|6 weeks 6 days ago||I didn't realize quite how||
I didn't realize quite how anti-fullback Kingston was himself. I would have assumed the staff promised he'd come in with the opportunity to compete at tailback, but fill in where needed if necessary. Taking a look at the roster, it would have to be a pretty big surprise for Davis not to spend some time at FB down the road.
Only 2017-commit Chase Lasater fits the bill as a FB/HBack type expected to be on the 2018 roster. FB is a spot that walk-ons can and do emerge, but considering the rotation Harbaugh used a year ago (even with a couple studs in Kerridge and Houma) more bodies will be needed there.

I know it sucks to have the three rivalry games on the road, but what really pisses me off even more is that the series "ended" at ND and will now be "revived" at ND. At least start at home in 2019 instead of this garbage.

Get a clue man. The Heat are and have been a proud franchise with a strong fanbase. One clip of fans leaving a game early doesn't change that. Miami has been top 5 in local TV ratings in both seasons since LeBron left.
Cleveland had a much bigger crater (for good reason, but still true) than the Heat did in local interest after his departure. I don't know what city you're from, but maybe don't be as ignorant before commenting on a fanbase next time.
2016 NBA Team RSN Ratings
|8 weeks 4 days ago||NBA rosters are currently||
NBA rosters are currently capped at 15, most teams hold 14-15. The bottom 5 or so are generally on rookie, minimum, and/or non-guaranteed deals. The big winners in the $$ boom aren't necessarily the stars, but the rotation guys. The 4-10 guys are getting major raises in the new CBA, especially because nearly every team has a ton of cap space and needs to reach the cap floor anyway.

I don't consider the Brian to have the Word of God, but where Onwenu's scouting report reads as "boom-or-bust raw, physical freak with outlier size, strength and quickness (for his size)", Bredeson's reads as "college ready (for an OL) that is technically advanced, smart, and has good pad level". I'd be stunned if Onwenu laps him in year 1.
|11 weeks 4 days ago||Tomato cans serve a purpose.||
Tomato cans serve a purpose. In the current alignment, we play Ohio State, Michigan State, and Penn State every season. For the next four seasons, we play Wisconsin every year as well. Three of the next four years we play either Nebraska or Iowa (another potentially major B1G foe). After this year's weak non-conference slate, we play an SEC team from 2017-2019 (with only one in AA).
Those are 5-6 BATTLES each season. Potentially add ND in 18-19. What if Maryland (another perennial foe in this alignment) rises up a bit under Durkin? We only get Rutgers and Indiana once a year each. It'd be nice to have one September game every year that we can count on a W and cycle in some younger guys in the second half.
Two big-time non-conference opponents each year are enough.
