I don't think I've commented or posted in 5 years. Have had my account for a while but usually just browse.

I reset my password and logged in to tell you what an absolutely fantastic article this is. I've sent it to several people. The article carries you through the final moments of that competition while providing the context and background to truly appreciate it.

This is just a truly wonderful piece.

Go Blue.

Duff

Tyler Duffy is a UM of grad, I've known him since I was 8.  Rational and levelheaded are his trademarks!  Glad to see him getting some love!!

Thanks Thanks for posting this. I posted in the earlier thread, but I know Greer personally and this day has been brutal. The random conjecture and wild accusations were rough. Greer is really and truly a good person. His integrity is being impugned on a bunch of different sites today and it's really unfortunate. I'm not a frequent poster, but I've been part of the community for a while now, and felt it was important to say something. Anyway, I hope it ends here. Although I'm sure he'll be a meme on this site for a couple days :)
Update https://www.google.com/amp/s/texas.247sports.com/Article/Exclusive-Elit… I was biting my tongue because I know Greer personally. He's a fantastic person and has never done anything other than be supportive of Mo. This guy got dragged through the mud today and deserves to have his story heard. On a side note: watching the wild speculation about a friend is really a unique experience. It was a good reminder of the power of the internet. I don't post much but I've been a member of the community for a while. I can personally vouch for Greer's integrity. Hopefully this ends the speculation.
I call it my axis of evil

I am engaged to a Sparty and my Dad went to OSU.

I'll be at the Arnold

I'm there for business. Anyone else going? I am there for work- should be interesting

I believe you misunderstood me

I am a big Bob Uecker fan- loved the Major League movies!

....nothing to see here....

Me and 10 buddies go to NASCAR every year

at MIS. I am not a big race fan, but I have a passion for drinking and uecker. On race day everyone picks a driver from a hat and however they finish is the draft order.

I remember that

I also remember he menioned that his roomate must have been in the botony program because he had a bunch of plants growing in his closet.  I giggled.

I agree the though, politics aside, the picketing of the graduation ceremony seemed to focus the attention on the speaker and not the students, which is a shame.

So.... Your name is Alfonso as well? Sentence structure humor!!! But nice fluff piece. Thanks for posting.
Done and Done

I got fam in Pennsylvania, not that I needed an excuse.

Scooter Is A Great Dude

I've known him since he was a freshman in highschool (he is good friends with my little brother).  Scooter is bright, thoughtful, funny and driven. I am excited to see him follow his dreams and I am proud to be able to help along the way.

Nice!

Good to hear.  I think one of their songs was used in a national commercial recently as well...

Spotify

We should totally make an MGoBloggers Spotify list, where we can share music.  If anyone is interested, I'll set it up.

I love these threads!

Last year I found some of my new favorites from other MGoBloggers, hopefully I can return the favor!

Trampled By Turtles - bluegrassy American music.  "Wait So Long" will make your jeans tight.

Twin Shadow- If the 80's and the movie soundtrack for Drive had a baby, but then gave it up for adoption and it was raised by Morrissey, that child would be Twin Shadow.

The Avett Brothers- The best live show I've ever seen, and I've seen a few.

The Lumineers- My friend's roomate from college is in this band (my friend's roomate's sister saw Ferris pass out at a 31 flavors) , but they are starting to get some national recognition

Frank Ocean- R&B is not usually my jam, but his new album is fantastic.  Sings with a ton of emotion- not expected from a member of the infamous Odd Future crew.

Thats not the only thing...

that grew significantly!!

Ammirite???

/Sadness

You are all correct

I'm an idiot.

Silver lining, I don't know THAT much about 18 years olds??

Samsonite!  WAYY Off!!

That's intriguing

I personally don't think it's like the Diamon situation, because the closer the time came with Jordan, the more rumblings there were about Stanford.  I don't know if Tom knows a whole lot more than he is telling (silent?) but I think the OP's assessment is probably accurate.

Would love to get him in this class.  He's a game changer.

Great Point

The years of playoff rivalaries as a factor in creating these competitions is something I hadn't thought about.  I dig it.

Your point is completely accurate

I was actually going to include a quick caveat that the idea that these guys didn't play with other great players is purely a myth.  What I was focusing on, however, was the amount of vitriol between the major superstars.  There is no doubt that the faces of the NBA in the 80's and 90's wanted to crush each other (Bird, Magic, Dom, MJ, Isiah), and were extremely competitive.  I don't think you can say that now.  Lebron, Wade, Howard, Chris Paul- these guys are all buddies and trying to play together, not compete against each other.

I think another point worth mentioning is how these teams are coming together.  The Celtics and the Lakes of yesteryear would go out and buy the best players.  It was the team that was evil.  This generation the players have more control and are calling the shots.  I think alot of pepople (fans, executives, critics) are intimidated by this development.  They don't like that the players are creating these dynasties and not the organizations.

I totally agree with your sentiment that one of the biggest meme's about the previous era of basketball is that those guys 'did it all themselves'. Magic and Bird alone played on freaking dream teams.  Good point.

I think

the distaste for these players who all combine together is that it appears to fly in the face of competition.  The superstars of the golden years, it is argued, hated each other and wanted to beat the best, not play with the best.  We all know the rivalry between guys like Bird, Magic, Jordan and Isiah.  These dudes wanted not only to win, but to beat the crap out of each other, This generation's superstars seem to all be friends, and want to play together instead of winning on their own.  Some critics have attributed this to the rise of AAU ball, where from a young age the best players know and play together, meaning that when they get to the league, they are already friends.

I don't know if I agree with it entirely, but I do think there is a measure of anger and passion that is missing form today's basketball that was present inthe 80's and early 90's.

I DVR'd and watched the game yesterday

And was pleasently suprised by the team.  Granted it's summer league, but there was some definite flashes of excitement.  I thought Drummond played really solid- his defense and footwork were especially good.  He held his own against Kanter, a top 5 pick, 7 footer from last year.  English can flat out shoot.  He's quick, and appeared to be a good on ball defender.  HIs quote after the game was something about how he prides himself on shutting down his man, and when he does that his shots will come.

I agree, the core of this team is really exciting.  Add to that the 7 foot over seas player (its 8:45, I will not Google his name) who is supposed to have an NBA ready body and defensive game, and we are looking good.  I also agree on the thunder analogy.  Grab a couple really talented youngsters (Westbrook, Harden, Durant), throw in a couple big guys who can defend (Perkins, Ebaka) and some role players and you are looking good.

I've refused to watch much of the last 2 years because, well, because we sucked.  I am looking forward to having something to cheer about.  Go Stones.

Quack Quack Quack Mr. Ducksworth

"GORDON, STOP YOUR QUACKING!!!!!!"

I still frequently reference "Fulton Reed" if I do something poorly.  Like, "I hit my drive onto the green, like 3 outta 10 times.  Im a freaking Fulton Reed".

That's it.

Alan Trammel was my b-ball coach...

As far as celebrity run ins, I have had a couple.  First of all, I don't consider U of M atheletes 'celeberities' , but I have a bunch of stories about assorted athletes.

Growing up I went to school with Alan Trammel's son.  His son and I played on our middle school basketball team together.  His Dad actually became out defacto head coach as the assigned head coach was an english teacher who knew more about frisbee golf than basketball.

It was fun to take the court and the other team would begin whispering "holy crap...that can't be....is that...holy crap".  It was less fun when we lost every game by an average of 40 points.  And this was middle school- most teams barely reached 40 points.

Toward the end of the season his son had a birthday party.  It was at his house and blew my 7th grade mind (they had a cotton candy machine...in...their...house).  Anyways my dad comes to pick me up and is really star struck.  He idolized Trammel.  Trammel opens the door and for my Dad and I run out.  As I am leaving I say the following:

"Thanks for the party Mr. Trammel.  By the way, you know those glove statues on the wall downstairs?  I accidently knocked one off and broke it.  Sorry.."

My Dad said Trammel's face turned green as he tried to hide his rage/dissapointment/plans to kill me.  Without skipping a beat I smiled and said "Just kidding, see ya Monday".

My Dad half laughed and half cried the whole way home.

7th grade troll for the win.

Inflammatory post is inflammatory

I heard this live.  It was a good interview (a little heated), but the question was asked by Stern as an analogy.  BTW, the earlier interview with Charles Barkley was amazing.

Sorry, totally random

Sorry for the hijack, just thought this was interesting, don't believe it was posted before.  Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chilip Peppers closed a show in Columbus  by singing the Michigan fight song to troll the crowd.  Chad is from Bloomfield Hills (I believe he attended Lahser).

Anyways, I thought it was funny.  Now back to your regularly scheduled programs.

Oh, and Trey Burke is the bees knees.

i second this Johnny immerman went to my high school. I know several people who've used inmermans angels while they were in cancer treatment and it meant the world to them. Great organization.
That's awful

You gotta feel bad for these kids and the program.  AIRBHG is real.

I had it on in the background

some very cool ideas, thoughts and projects coming out of Ann Arbor.  Always good to hear Ralph Williams, unfortunately I was only listening so I didn't get to see his magical hands (those things are like a bunch of bananas).

I know one of the team memebers of Treads (http://www.detroittreads.com/index_reg.html).  Very cool idea and it's presented well.

Congrats to all involved.

ummmm

Double Post!  It was so good I came twice.

Not like that.

Beat Ohio!

I stopped by to celebrate

our shared appreciation of Ted Theodre Logan.

Strange things are afoot at the circle-k!

The video is very powerful

so is the documentation of how IC uses it's funds.  I had heard about them before- they have very passionate advocates.  But I worry about supporting hte cause.  Just my 2 cents.

I jumped in late..

but it was a good interview.  Beilien talked about the normal stuff: how mature Trey is, how tough the big ten is.  In addition, they touched on how Beilen has never been an assistant, and whether that has helped him as a coach.

I had to take a call and missed the end, because ya know, I work, but it was still a solid interview.  Say what you want about Rome (whenever I see him I think of the parody of him in Any Given Sunday played by John C. McGinely): his enunciation is annoying and he can be a troll- but the guy is a pretty fantastic interviewer.

Ok, it's monday, I have TPS reports to do.

On a side note

I tried to do a pull-up yesterday and ended up in a shame spiral that culminated with me eating 2 boxes of girl scout Samoa cookies.

41 reps is cool though.

It's you, from the future

He's come back to warn you that if you don't  play guitar at the enchantment under the sea dance, Chuck Berry will never get famous!

I came for the UFRs

but I stayed for the OMG Shirtless and TacoPants.

I have always been a huge Michigan fan and I stumbled onto this blog a couple years ago in my pursuit of all things MIchigan.  While the sports information is awesome, I find myself coming back for the inside jokes and sense of community.

You guys even make a lurker like me feel welcome!

Sounds likely

But his last tweet sais "Im good, no need to worry about anything".

I am an adult.  I have a job.  I have a house and responsibilities.  Why in the hell am I looking at a 17 year olds tweets?

The team, the team, the team

I didn't watch the game

I didn't watch the game, I just followed in horror on the stats line, but...

/meme

I think Burke looks like he has to tools to be a true game manager.  I was very impressed by the work ethic he showed in his 'coming to Michigan' video series.  He trains very hard and seems to have a deep passion for the game.

I agree with the rest of the statements here, namely, what Burke lacks in physical prowess, he will make up for with quickness, patience and the ability to run the offense.  It was nice to have Morris last year with 7 seconds left on the shot clock, but how many of those last second plays would have been avoided if he had managed the clock better?

Quick Baits Story..

My buddy and I got put into Bursley my freshman year.  Both of us were pretty bummed, we wanted to be on Central. Fast forward a month into school and my roomate and I go out to enjoy the nightlife.  I, apparently, enjoyed it a little too much.  My roomate put me to bed at 3:00am.  At 7:00am I woke up with a citation on my chest that informed me that I had peed, not only in the hallway, but on my RA's door.  Worse yet, my RA opened the door and I apparently peed all over his legs.

I felt terrible.  My parents felt worse.  My RA felt worsest.  In my disciplinary meeting, I was told I had "irrevocably damaged the fabric of my community" and would be moved to Central campus.  Being an 18 year old jerk, I said "good, that's where I wanted to be anyway".  Idiot.  She smiled and informed me that I would be moved to Baits instead.  Further North and no cafeteria.  Parents were none too happy.  On the bright side, my new roomate in Baits is still a close friend of mine.

I no longer pee on people.
