Why is Collins a “no?” He’s rebuilt and won at a more challenging BIG program than UM. And done it with at least as difficult transfer restrictions. Knows recruiting in the Midwest . He’s already a proven and successful P5 head coach vs a mid-major coach who has no idea what it’s like to play and win in a tough league. And he’s respected in the BIG already. What am I missing? Does he have baggage?
Definitely feels like the Wild West. Can’t blame the players or recruits. I sure hope the Power 5 conferences agree upon some NIL rules and actually enforce them. Paying a recruit $2M before he’s stepped foot on campus sets a terrible precedent and is downright ridiculous. This really feels like programs and/or their boosters are stooping to prostitution. I sure hope the big conferences take some action very soon, otherwise college football will be changed forever, and not in a good way.
Go where you can find the very best job opportunity, based on your chosen career field. Enjoy the journey and each and every place life takes you. As you get into your 40’s, you’ll likely have developed some preferences on places you’d like to live long term. If you have kids, you’ll probably want to stay wherever you are by the time they’re teenagers, or slightly before. Dream big. Ann Arbor was a great place to grow up but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all 8 of the different places/states we’ve lived. It just so happens our last move, over 20 years ago, was to San Diego and that’s where we ended up. There is definitely other places we could live and be happy, but this is home and we have very few complaints!
I had rotator cuff surgery on my right shoulder 7 years ago in early 50’s. Didn’t really have a choice as I couldn’t sleep for more than an hour at a time as a result of the pain. Mine was a complete tear and they were able to reattach using a couple anchors. The surgeon gave me a pretty cool video of it all. Agree with the 6 months of recovery. For the first few weeks after surgery, the pain was pretty intense, especially when trying to sleep, even with the short acting opioids. Highly recommend an ice machine during this time. Mine has been well used by several colleagues. Don’t push it as much with heavy weights any more. Would rather not go through that again!
If Notre Dame can compete for a NC, we should be able to as well. Maybe not every year but consistently a top 10 program. Coaching change has to happen IMO.
Love Angels’s envy but for special occasions it’s Col EH Taylor single barrel bottled in bond! Taylor’s Rye is also a favorite! Heaven’s Door 10 year bourbon also great. Too many choices...
ELP was maybe the best concert I ever went to growing up in A2 during the 70's. Just amazing music and sound. Carl Palmer was liekly the best drummer I ever witnessed in person. Keith Emerson will be missed! :( RIP

It is very unusual, but I've rescinded a few offers to candiates after learning about issues that came up after the background check and/or references were completed. These tended to be incidences where the candidate falsified a record or lied on their employment application. Salary negotiation is fairly routine and even if we've already told a candidate this is our best offer, we wouldn't rescind the offer unless there was something else that made us uncomfortable with ultimately hiring the person. I'd probably recommend following up with the hiring manager and see if they can share anything beyond what you've been told.

2) Absolutely love cars and motorcycles, since growing up in MI. Especially muscle cars of the 60's and early 70's. Owned over 30 vehicles in past 35 years or so of driving. Currently enjoy a BMW M5, Range Rover, Audi S4, Subaru Outback and a couple Harleys - all late models. Have a Porsche 911 Turbo S on order to be delivered next month and can't wait!
3) Way beyond any social pressure at this point. Don't really care what other people (who don't know me) think. Everyone has their own hobbies or vices. To each his own.

It makes sense to wait to make any coaching decision until after the season,including the insight.com bowl (or whatever it is)... then I'm confident DB will make the right decision whatever that is!
The defense is holding their own... offense isn't scoring, turnovers, and special teams are the difference right now. Let's see if we can make some adjustments in the second half for a change!
I grew up in A2 during the mid 60’s and late 70’s… played b-ball at the IM building with most of the players during the spring and summers. The ones that still stand out that were good guys and fun to run with: Phil Hubbard, Rickey Green, John Thompson, Joel Thompson, Tom Staton, Steve Grote and Mike McGee. I also played several times with Cazzie Russell during this time when he must have been in his mid 30’s. He was a lot of fun to play with and I also remember he had a good sense of humor. I really had no idea at the time he was the legend he is. The only guy I recall that wasn’t much fun to run with was Dave Baxter. He was just more arrogant for some reason. I played ball with a lot of football players too during the off season but can’t recall the names as readily. Thom Darden was my student teacher in 6th grade. I can recall tossing a football with him during recess. I also remember he could really fly. His 4th quarter interception against OSU in ’71 was something I’ll never forget. No 11 year old student was more proud of his teacher!
I watched both Wynn and Forcier last year as seniors... Wynn made Tate look big a year ago. He has put on some weight, though I'm not sure about the 40-50 lbs. Wynn was a very good high school QB and although his team beat Tate's two years in a row in the playoffs, there really was no comparison - Tate was far superior as a QB. However, Wynn played on a team that had better talent all around on both sides of the ball. Oceanside has been a perennial state power forever (Junior Seau among most notable alums) and in fact won another state championship going undefeated a week ago. Clearly, Wynn has developed nicely in a very short time and hopefully we'll see the same with Tate going into his Sophomore year!
A little bit of both overrated and underacheiving. Still a young team and they will get better as the season goes on. I see effort but not sure I see the passion yet to really get after it like they did last year. They may have read a few preseason press clippings. That will change with Beilein coaching them up.
First, let me say that whatever QB gives us the best chance to win next year should get the starting job, even if it is a freshman again. I want to win now and the more competition we have at every position, the better. Since I had the opportunity living here in San Diego to watch Tate a couple times in high school last year and now today having had the chance to watch Devin in the state finals, here are some observations for what it’s worth.
Devin is definitely a more impressive physical specimen at 6’4” and over 200 pounds. However, as others have said, he is still very raw from what I saw. He probably has more upside as he develops but as I think back to watching Tate in the state playoffs a year ago, he clearly was the more polished and impressive player.
Today’s game may not have been Devin’s best but what surprised me most was not seeing the speed or shiftiness I thought he had. The few times he tried to run wide, the Lowell defenders didn’t seem to have any problem catching him. I would have liked to see him run vertically just once to see if he could have broke one open. He has a nice arm and throws very effortless, but threw off his back foot a few times under pressure and lofted a few too many passes. When he sat back in the pocket, planted his feet and delivered the ball with velocity, he looked great. Unfortunately, Inkster’s defense was on the field most of the time and he didn’t have the ball a whole lot.
When I think back to watching Tate last year (one game he won, one he lost – both in the CIF playoffs), he really stood out as a player, despite the even higher level of competition played in the San Diego area. Though he made some of the same mistakes in these games he made as a true freshman this year, his running, passing and playmaking always made him standout, even against the better competition. He even was one of the better players on defense, starting as a defensive back/safety. The two things that worried me about him then and still now unfortunately, are his size and his tendency to gamble too much trying to make a play when there wasn’t one.
Ideally, Tate would have been redshirted and had a full year to put some weight on, get use to the speed of the game and learn the offense as part of the practice squad. Obviously, that wasn’t going to happen given the QB situation we have so we got to see the ups and downs of a true freshman playing for the first time against big-time D1 competition. Just thinking about it, overall Tate played about how I would have expected, though early in the year he was much better than I thought he’d be.
What is obvious to me from watching Devin play today (and Tate a year ago) is that there is a HUGE difference going from high school to major college football, and even more so at the QB position. We all get enamored by the rivals, scout, and espn ratings looking for “the one” that will make this nightmare end, but there is a reason why so few true freshman QB’s play (let alone start). Development of Devin and Tate (along with Denard and Conelius Jones) is going to be critical over the next 9 months. They all need a lot of coaching between now and Sept 4 when UCONN comes to town. I just hope one of them is ready to step up big time when this time comes. GO BLUE!
They need the bye week and to play later like SEC and Pac 10. Less time between last game and a bowl will help in the future. Playing in the cold and even possibly snow shouldn't be a big deal other than maybe scaring away the FL and CA recruits!
The competition at QB next year will make everyone better. Whoever gives the program the best chance to win should play, even if it is a freshman, like this year. Physically DG may have an advantage right now but the ability to handle the mental part is usually the most difficult as a freshman. It's also one of the most complex offenses to pick up.
Tate's actually done a fairly remarkable job as a true freshman, given the numbers posted in the original topic. Size at the college level can be overrated. There's all kinds of highly successful 6'1" and under QB's at the major college level. Oregon's Masoli is an impressive dual threat QB. He's only 5'11" and 220 lbs but he's 21 and a junior.
Everyone has to remember that Tate's only 19 and never lifted a weight until 9 months ago. His body will mature over the next couple years and he will get stronger and faster as a result of the strength and conditioning program. Hopefully, he will also progress from a mental standpoint and just having another year in the offensive system. Most people usually learn from their mistakes and my bet is that he does and we see a lot more of the good things he did this year and much less of the stuff that drove us crazy!

It's not rhe refs... Our defense is playing well enough to keep it close if only the offense and special teams would pick it up as well.
