To me 42-27 and the Alabama…

To me 42-27 and the Alabama game this past season would be equal. In the first one we got over the OSU hump, in the second one we got over the playoff hump.

The earn-your-NIL approach…

The earn-your-NIL approach seems to be working very well for the football team. I'd expect it to work for the basketball team.

I don't believe in running…

I don't believe in running players off. He should be treated the same as any other returning player.

Yeah, Clark can slash and…

Yeah, Clark can slash and dish in addition to shooting from anywhere. I'd think any WNBA team would be happy to have her.

The important thing is to…

The important thing is to preface every road number with 'the'. As far as I know SoCal is the only place where everyone does that.

I wouldn't base anything on…

I wouldn't base anything on MSU or OSU. Beating rivals is nice, but this isn't like football where OSU was our specific roadblock for a long time.

Given the current roster, I expect the team to get back to .400 overall next year and .500 in year 2, with the goal of .600 in year 3. For the first year I'd say 12 wins would be a C, 14 a B, and 16 an A but it would also depend on how tough the schedule is and how competitive the team is against better teams.

F Kansas. That last shot in…

F Kansas. That last shot in regulation was sheer luck. I hope SC beats them by 30 points and plays that obnoxious fight song every 2 minutes.

At least our football team…

At least our football team knows how to watch out where the Huskies go.

We'll have 5 freshmen, 5…

We'll have 5 freshmen, 5 grad transfers, 5 walk-ons, and maybe Tschetter. Hopefully more than 5 wins, but we'd do well to win 5 conference games.

I haven't seen the team play…

I haven't seen the team play, but based on the stats I'd say that Conway has the potential to be really good. As a freshman, she already has power and speed (3 triples, 4 stolen bases) and draws a lot of walks. Her only negative is that she strikes out a lot, but she should strike out less as she gets more used to college pitching. Vallimont isn't as far along, but she already walks more than she strikes out and her power should improve as she gains experience and adds muscle.

More like leaving Georgia…

More like leaving Georgia for MSU to coach football.

I don't see any evidence…

I don't see any evidence that Michigan fans really care about the style a team plays as opposed to the results.

The Howard hire was…

The Howard hire was reasonable at the time, and looked great after two years and still decent after three. It might have worked out if some things had gone differently, but now it's clearly time to move on.

There must be something…

There must be something wrong with the predictor sites' algorithms if they come up with PSU (down just 1 player) favored by 4 when we've lost 13 of our last 14 games by at least 8 points.

Seems like that was the plan…

Seems like that was the plan, but she ended up getting an asinine number of assists.

We do nothing well

We do…

We do nothing well

We do all the things poorly

We are well balanced

We actually played fairly…

We actually played fairly well for 33 minutes, and the score was tied at that point. Unfortunately, we neglected to score any points the rest of the way.

Harbaugh had one bad season…

Harbaugh had one bad season in the very weird Covid year, after five mostly good ones. Howard's trajectory has been more like Hoke's, with one very good season early (Howard's second, Hoke's first) and then three years of progressive decline with the wheels coming off in the last year.

If McCarthy goes in the…

If McCarthy goes in the first round or even the second, it will be an attractive enough destination.

33 minutes. It was 63-63…

33 minutes. It was 63-63 with 7 minutes left. Then...ugh.

I'll bite.

1. The NFL one…

I'll bite.

1. The NFL one is probably the worst, because there's no need to pull a fast one when the game is already over. The NBA one would be similar if the team with the ball had come out as if to just run out the game clock and then the player broke for the basket. The NHL one is the least bad, because the team with the puck is always expected to score in that situation.

2. No, because it's about how you score, not whether you score. It's more like just handing the ball to the official if you score a touchdown near the end of a blowout.

3. The appropriate retaliation is to do the same thing to the other team the next time the roles are reversed. Rielly was way out of line, and I hope he got some sort of sanction.

4. I don't think it's the league's place to do anything about this if that's what you meant. I think the NBA coach was right to speak to the player in the locker room.

The team is 3-1 despite…

The team is 3-1 despite averaging 2.5 runs per game. The best news so far is that LeBeau has been sharp, allowing 3 hits and 1 run in 7.2 innings with 1 walk and 12 strikeouts. Small sample against meh opposition, but it's possible that she has significantly upped her game as a senior. Hopefully at some point the light will go on for some of the hitters who are not used to facing college pitchers.

Changes I'd like to see:

1…

Changes I'd like to see:

1. Eliminate extra points, and instead require a '2-point' conversion that would only count as 1 point. Extra points are boring. This would also probably reduce the number of games that are tied at the end of regulation.

2. Instead of having a restart for overtime, just add 10 minutes to the clock and make it sudden death. If regulation ends at 3rd and 6 from the 50, overtime starts at 3rd and 6 from the 50. If it's still tied at the end of 10 minutes, it ends in a tie unless it's a playoff game in which case you just add another 10 minutes.

3. Eliminate kickoffs, and instead give the 'kicking' team 4th and 15 from their own 35. This will usually result in a punt (more interesting than a kickoff, and less dangerous) and the receiving team getting the ball around their own 25.

4. If a forward fumble goes out of bounds (including through the end zone), the ball should go back to the fumbling team at the spot of the fumble.

Thanks. Everything here…

Thanks. Everything here looks reasonable. The team should be improved as long as nothing happens to Derkowski.

Good writeup. I'm good with…

Good writeup. I'm good with this hire. Wink has done well with guys who are used to the Ravens system, and poorly with guys who aren't used to it. He'll have guys who are used to it.

Shaw won 82 games in his…

Shaw won 82 games in his first 8 years at Stanford, which is the Pac-12 equivalent of Northwestern. That's like winning 11-12 games a year at Michigan, it would be great if Moore can do that.

A transfer QB with starting…

A transfer QB with starting experience wouldn't be clearly better than our current group, but would probably have a higher floor.

Tossup between OSU and…

Tossup between OSU and Alabama. OSU's defense is maybe a hair better, OSU has the better passing attack, Alabama the better running game.

A couple of uncharacteristic…

A couple of uncharacteristic busts in the secondary, but otherwise a very good effort. Pressure was good, push against the run was good, coverage and tackling mostly good.

This looks like a game we should win unless we blow it. That said, there's a long way to go, and UW is a very dangerous passing team.
