If M wins, I expect you to post in this space and admit that you were wrong. BTW, the two teams Utah has beaten are at about the same level as App State and NTM.
|2 days 3 hours ago||hmm||
If you mean that we were in actual danger today, we weren't. We had one bad stretch in the first half where we gacked it up 3 times, but apart from that this was a completely one-sided game. M had 460 yards, NTM had 198.
On the other hand if you just mean that the B1G could have looked worse if M (or OSU for that matter) had laid an egg like everyone else did, I agree.
|4 days 7 hours ago||so did App State||
Those guys were weak. Weak!
|6 days 8 hours ago||Ok||
Suppose the rest of the season goes like this:
NTM W 41-6
Utah W 29-13
Minnesota W 31-7
Rutgers W 38-20
Penn State W 28-17
Sparty L 20-21
Indiana W 52-28
NW W 34-3
Maryland W 37-17
OSU (who is 9-2, losing only to VT and Sparty) L 17-18
Bowl: South Carolina W 34-17
You would fire Hoke after that? (Not that I'm predicting that for the rest of the season.)
|6 days 8 hours ago||Utah will likely be tough||
but it isn't a trap game. A trap game is one that the team is likely to be flat for because they're looking ahead to the next game or hung over from the last one. NTM would be a trap game if they were any good. I suspect the team will view Utah as a big chance to redeem themselves after the ND fiasco and turn the season around. I think M is more likely to be too hyped up for Utah than to be flat.

They hung with Oregon in Eugene for most of the game. If not them, then probably Wisconsin, who should have beaten LSU. Everyone else looks very shaky, including OSU whose offense has been nearly as ugly as ours and whose defense is still pretty lame.
|1 week 1 day ago||"we didn't help ourselves in the red zone"||
This is true, but only because we never got into the red zone.
|1 week 1 day ago||remember 1998?||
We looked like hot garbage through the first 2 horrible losses to ND and Cuse, then turned it around and won 10 of the last 11. Let's not pull the plug just yet.
|1 week 1 day ago||we might beat OSU||
because they suck. Their offense is exactly like ours, the OL can't block anyone and the QB is always running for his life.
Not MSU, though.
|1 week 1 day ago||defense||
Under RR, the offense was in decent shape but the defense was a train wreck.
Under Hoke, the defense is in decent shape but the offense is a train wreck.
|1 week 1 day ago||that was a fitting end||
When in doubt, don't block anybody.
|1 week 1 day ago||pull Gardner||
before he gets hurt. This is irresponsible.
|1 week 1 day ago||too late||
It's already garbage time.
|1 week 1 day ago||too late||
It's already garbage time.
|1 week 2 days ago||relative bright spot||
The run defense has been decent.
|1 week 2 days ago||offensive game plan||
Don't block Day, ever.
|1 week 2 days ago||consolation?||
Ohio State sucks. They're down 21-7 at home to VT.
|1 week 2 days ago||cool, a stop||
We still didn't do much to force the issue.
|1 week 2 days ago||puke||
This offense is hitting new lows.
|1 week 2 days ago||our offense||
has done less than Rice did.
The defense hasn't done anything egregiously bad, they just aren't doing anything to force the issue. That can be enough against mediocre offenses, but not against elite ones.
|1 week 2 days ago||yuck||
Based on the first half, I suspect that ND has an elite offense. Golson is playing as well as any M opponent since Vince Young. Unfortunately, I also suspect that their defense isn't nearly as good as we're making them look. The OL will need to improve a lot by the end of the season.
|1 week 3 days ago||M v ND||
It's been fun, interesting, and almost always competitive. Let's get them back on the schedule ASAP. If not every year, at least every 2 years out of 4.
|1 week 6 days ago||Cal||
Cal is the other team I follow, having spent 4 years there before my 9 at M. They looked far better on Saturday than they did at any point last year. The offense was only marginally improved, but the defense looked organized and fundamentally sound after looking totally lost and confused for most of 2013. They still seem to be pretty meh on both sides of the ball, but they look like they should win 5-6 games this year which isn't bad considering their schedule.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||that's silly||
We can't control how good MSU is or how well they play against us. You seem to be saying that if MSU turns out to be as good as they were last year or better, we lose to them by 1 point but sweep the rest of our schedule and win our bowl to finish 12-1, that would be a bad season.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||I really like your tables||
Nice, compact way to display a team's experience and recruiting rankings.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||I don't think the interior can get worse||
With everyone back and apparently a more rational scheme, it should get better. Of course the tackles project to be significantly worse, so the collective could easily be worse. My best guess is that it won't be quite as bad, assuming that Nussmeier indeed sticks to one scheme instead of changing it up every other week like Borges did.
|3 weeks 5 days ago||OSU without Miller||
I'd be surprised if there are only 7 teams that project to be better than OSU at this point. OSU has an imposing DL and a lot of question marks almost everywhere else. Collectively the new guys could be very good or pretty poor. They could end up anywhere from 6-6 to 11-1, but my best guess for them now would be about 9-3. I think they should still be favored to beat us with our shaky OL, but only because they're at home.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||I don't think their OL situation is quite that bad||
Decker did well enough as a starter, and Elflein played well when forced into action. Beyond that, they have guys who didn't have to play and may or may not be ready for B1G competition. In contrast, we have guys who either struggled (except for arguably Glasgow) or couldn't beat out the guys who struggled.
That said, I agree with your basic take. Their DL should be formidable, but they have a lot of question marks almost everywhere else.

You recommended the same EPL teams I would have picked, except I wouldn't recommend Stoke unless you're willing to tolerate more risk. The other four are rich enough to compete for places in Europe, but not so rich that you feel guilty rooting for them. I started following the EPL after the 2010 World Cup and went with Liverpool because Pink Floyd's "Fearless" ends with Liverpool fans singing "You'll Never Walk Alone".
|7 weeks 5 days ago||that's weird||
I went to the 2004 Rose Bowl alone in M gear. Almost all the USC fans I encountered were polite, and none of them were threatening.
