Sundhage was the US coach for only one World Cup, in 2011. The US didn't win.
|1 week 4 days ago||Sweden didn't outplay the US||
The US had more possession, more shots, and more shots on goal. A tie game was a fair result. A shootout is just a coin flip.
The US couldn't beat Sweden last year in the World Cup either. This team always wins either the World Cup or the Olympics, but not both.

We have a bunch of DL/LB types wearing inappropriate numbers like 1, 2, and 3 when no one is wearing 60, 61, 62, 64, 66, 69, 94, 95, or 97.

So I guess Indiana is going to have the world devoured by starving dogs then.

Stars are a good indication of how good a prospect a player appears to be, and thus an appropriate way to compare classes of recruits who haven't been coached up yet.
|8 weeks 1 day ago||yeah, this looks like a bit of a mismatch||
I don't think the North and the Vale are going to get involved, because they're busy prepping for the zombie horde invasion. Otherwise, yeah. What's left of the regime is up against Dany's hordes and dragons, Dorne, the Reach, half of the Iron Islands, and most of the Riverlands. Who does Cersei have left to ally with? Euron?

The Hound is also a younger brother. But he's with the Brotherhood, who have no real reason to go to King's Landing.
|8 weeks 1 day ago||Jon would have to be legitimized||
As far as anyone but Bran, Howland Reed, and the midwife (if she's still alive) know, he's Ned's son. But even if people recognize Rhaegar as the father, it was out of wedlock so Dany has the stronger claim as Aerys' legitimate child.
The head of a house can legitimize bastards, as Roose did for Ramsay. If Dany did that for Jon I think he would then have the stronger claim, so that's a no. It's possible that she could legitimize him in her will if she would rather be succeeded by him than by whoever else would be next in line.

One of my all time favorites and of course the inspiration for the Magnificent 7, but it's stretching the definition of a Western a bit.

Jon blew it, Ramsay blew it, but Sansa nailed it.
|9 weeks 1 day ago||it's not so much that Jon is stupid||
His original plan was decent, but seeing Rickon caused him to go full lizard brain and flip out. It seems plausible to me that he could lose a lot of self-control after being revived from the dead.
|9 weeks 1 day ago||she only sent a raven||
She had no way to know Littlefinger was coming at that point. Still, if she had mentioned it Jon might have been less likely to flip out after Ramsay killed Rickon.
|9 weeks 1 day ago||nah||
That issue is still easy enough to get around in any number of ways.
1. As far as everyone knows, Jon is Ned's son, not Rhaegar's. His ruler can easily legitimize him, as Stannis offers to do in the books. If it turns out to be more convenient for the people calling the shots to legitimize him as a Targaryen, that's what will happen instead.
2. Houses don't need male heirs to continue. Lyanna Mormont is Maege Mormont's daughter; her father is unknown. Sansa or Arya could just do the same thing Maege did.
3. Bran and Benjen are probably impotent, but no one can prove this. They could marry and have Jon impregnate their wives, and no one would be able to tell the difference.
|9 weeks 1 day ago||Ramsay bungled the campaign||
He completely failed to track thousands of Vale horsemen moving up from the Neck. Even with that, he might have been able to salvage the battle if he had left some of his own force in reserve. He especially could have used his cavalry, which he squandered by having his archers fire indiscriminately into the melee of his men and Jon's.

In ep 5 the big dude went down holding the door shut so his friends could get away.
In ep 9 the big dude went down busting open the door so his friends could get in.
|10 weeks 1 day ago||is it comparable though?||
On offense, you're trying to control the ball, pass, or shoot with your first touch. On defense, you're just trying to deflect the ball in any direction that isn't right to an attacker or your own goal.

In the last World Cup qualifying tournament Ecuador went 7-0-1 at home at 9,127 feet, and 0-4-4 on the road.

|11 weeks 8 hours ago||two things||
1. Washington should be better than Oregon this year as they have a vastly superior defense. UW beating UO would not be any sort of an upset.
2. Cal picked up Davis Webb, a grad transfer QB from Texas Tech. He may be new to the team, but he isn't new to the air raid or to Power 5 competition. Their OL is also mostly veteran, not mostly new.
|11 weeks 2 days ago||it was another fun season||
Ended on a sour note, but they were in contention until the very end which is about all you can realistically expect given the parity among the top programs. Looking forward to 16-17.
|11 weeks 2 days ago||well, crap||
It's disappointing and frustrating to end the year with 2 close losses, but the teams that beat us are at the same level we are if not higher. Oklahoma has won 29 straight games. FSU is 55-9 and Burroughs had a better season than Betsa did: about the same number of hits and far fewer walks, home runs, hit batters, and wild pitches in about the same number of innings.
It's true that we beat OU once and FSU twice earlier in the season, but Parker didn't pitch the OU game and we got just 3 runs in 5 innings off Burroughs in the one game she pitched.

With 2 strikes, you have to swing when in doubt.
|11 weeks 5 days ago||bad schedule||
If that happens, I'd be tempted to have Driesenga stay at the hotel and go to bed early so she at least wouldn't be messed up for the next game. Of course, the risk would be that if Betsa started to struggle she would have to stay in.

Now we need to get Peoples-Jones and Kelly-Powell to corner the market on hyphenated names.
In all seriousness, this looks like a very good pickup of the sort that we would have likely lost to MSU a few years ago.
|12 weeks 6 hours ago||ties are almost a necessity in soccer||
Goals per game are much lower than in hockey, so ties at the end of regulation are very common. 28% of EPL games in 15-16 ended in ties. If you got rid of ties, you'd get 20-25% of games going to shootouts and you'd see teams just load up on defensive and PK specialists to try to win 0-0 shootouts. It would be the most boring brand of soccer imaginable.
Alternately, you could get rid of shootouts and have every game go until someone scores to break the tie. This would result in a lot of 3-4 hour marathon games and would not work at all unless you drastically changed the substitution and squad size rules.
I like that a tie is worth less than half a win. That encourages teams to play more aggressively.
|12 weeks 11 hours ago||hockey has unlimited substitution||
Soccer has just 3 subs per game total.
|12 weeks 11 hours ago||overtime||
For games where extra time is possible, I would like to see sudden death but with bigger rosters (30?) and unlimited substitutions (even of players who have already come off) every 15 minutes after the first 90. Fatigue would still be an issue, but much of it would fall on the backups who aren't likely to play a big role in subsequent games. I'd think that in the vast majority of games, someone would score within the first 90 minutes of OT. Also, removing the possibility of a shootout would discourage the weaker team from parking the bus and playing for a shootout.
I would also get rid of the rule that overtime has to go 30 minutes even if someone scores. As soon as someone scores in OT it should be game over.
