Have Red Lightning and Lloyd Brady ever been seen together in the same place?

ND isn't a member of the ACC for football. They're going to play five games a year against ACC teams, but they'll still be an independent.
|1 day 7 hours ago||NFL coaches' routines are||
NFL coaches' routines are apparently even worse - at least, according to some coaches who came back to college in an article I was reading awhile ago.
|1 day 9 hours ago||I thought the committee||
I thought the committee suggested Miles, only to have Martin brush it off.
|1 day 10 hours ago||I think you'll find that||
I think you'll find that actually, most big schools can appear disfunctional when it's time to hire a coach.
|1 day 10 hours ago||And in retrospect… when has a||
I'm not sure what you're getting at here, because it's not uncommon for players with turf toe to go around on crutches for a little while.
|1 day 10 hours ago||NFL jobs aren't for||
NFL jobs aren't for everybody. They're supposed to involve hellishly long hours and coaches don't have the kind of control over personnel they do in college. Plus, the players are older and not necessarily as receptive to coaching.

1993 would still beat it.
Both the basketball and hockey teams made the Final Four for the second year in a row and this time, neither would be satisfied with anything less than the ring. Neither one got it.
And then the preseason top 5 football team lost four games by a total of 20 points.

You can't seriously be comparing Burke to Mateen Cleaves. Dumars drafted Cleaves much higher than anyone else would have - he just wasn't that good. Burke's draft projection was a lot better than that.
|3 days 13 hours ago||Note that just because a guy||
Note that just because a guy is playing overseas does not necessarily mean he is playing in the top league in that country. Jevohn Shepherd's club (Fulgor Omegna) actually competes in the third-tier Italian league, so I don't know how lucrative that is.
On another note, Josh Asselin is shooting 41% from downtown in Spain? Wow, he's changed his game.
Back in America, the good seasons for Burke and Hardaway are really crucial for future recruiting. We can now point to those guys as players Beilein put in the pros. It'd be nice to see Darius Morris return to the league as well.

But I think Brian's point (and I agree) is that having Burke on the Pistons would make them a lot more interesting for us to watch.
|3 days 14 hours ago||I think you will find that||
I think you will find that close calls are true for a whole bunch of football programs, not just us. Think about Ohio: in 1993, '95, '96, '02, '06, '12 and '13 they went into the Michigan game - the last regular season game - undefeated. In five of those seven years, they either lost to us or their next opponent, and in another year they were banned from the title game (when they would have played a very winnable ND team). Only one of those years did they end up winning the national title.
|3 days 14 hours ago||I can't agree. Football,||
I can't agree. Football, yes, it was a year full of heartbreakers (though we also avoided a few others) - but we've had a few other years like that, notably 2005. We still at least made a bowl, which we didn't do recently.
But last basketball season was a huge, huge success in my book. I don't care about the conference title - no one remembers that anyway. Prior to the season we hadn't gone to the Sweet 16 since 1994, and then we went all the way to the national championship game! Yeah, the title game ended on a sour note, but it was still an amazing ride. Having followed the program through the abyss, it was a really fun, satisfying year, even if it wasn't 100% perfect - few seasons are.
What's happened so far this year in basketball doesn't really matter, and certainly doesn't override what happened last March.
|3 days 15 hours ago||Are you saying that you'd||
Are you saying that you'd have rather had us not be 11-0 in 2006 going into the Ohio game, and not have us in the NCG in 2013, just because we happened to lose those games?
In basketball, especially, winning the whole thing is really hard. There's a reason why everyone raises banners for making the Final Four. It's a huge accomplishment no matter what happens the following weekend.
|3 days 15 hours ago||And there very frequently is||
And there very frequently is something to the rumors. I don't think it's a coincidence that the same handful of coaches always get their names brought up. The guys who are 100% sure they're staying put never seem to have to deal with these rumors.
What probably happens is this: a coach's agent might contact a representative of another school to hear them out. At that point the coach might decide to nix the idea, but news of that little conversation will leak out somehow (probably by the agent). And then the coach says, "I have never had contact with that school," which is sort of true - his agent did, not him - and as he signs a newer, richer contract with his current school.
(Or, if the school decides not to give in, the coach may decide to then seriously pursue the new job offer, or at least until he does get that raise.)

I don't know . . . aside from the hair color, I think he looks pretty much the same now. He just seems to have given up the dye job at some point.
|3 days 16 hours ago||So is Fournette still going||
So is Fournette still going to be considered the recipient of this award, or are they going to actually change it on the list because he declined it?
|3 days 16 hours ago||I don't remember Miles, since||
I don't remember Miles, since his arrival at LSU, ever being mentioned for a job that wasn't Michigan.
It's hard to pry guys away from elite jobs. Jim Tressel was never a candidate for anywhere else when he was at Ohio. Stoops and Brown were never rumored to be leaving OU and UT when they were at the top of their game. The reason why Saban and Meyer get named is because they're pretty much hired guns - they have a history of leaving their schools after brief stays.

It's one thing to be a good coordinator and another to be a good head coach. Six years ago, they hired Pelini, who was then a hot coordinator, too.

This is a nice gesture, but I wonder how fired up kids in Houston are about seeing Syracuse take on Minnesota. The money might be better spent on clothing or other presents, honestly.

Stan Parrish was the QB coach for Brady. Loeffler was (I think) a grad assistant but I don't know how much credit he can claim for "developing" Brady.
|3 days 19 hours ago||Bowl practice is a little||
Bowl practice is a little different from regular season practice. The first two weeks are like another spring practice. The third week is the gameweek and that's the one he needs to be able to take part in.
|4 days 7 hours ago||I think Crisler's capacity||
I think Crisler's capacity (now about 12,700) is fine. Yes, during the Ellerbe/Amaker years it seemed too big, but not before or now. When we've had a good basketball program, it's generally been filled up.
|4 days 7 hours ago||Yeah, while I think it'd be||
Yeah, while I think it'd be cool, we'd be spending a bunch of money to play in a much smaller venue than Crisler.
|4 days 7 hours ago||We still have 12 days until||
We still have 12 days until the game. Weren't we all expecting him to miss most (if not all) of this past week of practice? I'm not sure if this is that shocking or revealing. When we get to the start of game week (Dec. 22), then it's officially an issue.

I don't remember Chittownblue2 being this negative about Michigan in general. Actually, I think what got him in trouble was that he took Brian to task for being pessimistic - or at least, that's how it seemed.

It's not even really true anymore. The last few times I went there they were nice enough. They just want to keep the line moving.
