Per his friend Todd Anson,…

Per his friend Todd Anson, Jim's relationship with Warde was always strained, at best, and that was a big reason why he continually looked to the pros.   While he may have had the itch to leave anyway, working with Warde apparently made that itch worse.  With Jim unlikely to ever speak on the record about this, Anson's probably as close as we can get to the source.

It's not hard to believe that Jim wasn't too pleased with Warde suspending him in September over a charge that Jim that disputed.  Probably wasn't thrilled to have us cave to the Big Ten, either.  At that point, who could blame him for wanting to leave?

Anson has maintained that Jim would still be here if Hackett had stayed around, fwiw.

And we won a Big Ten title…

And we won a Big Ten title with him the next year!

Add the rouge to American…

Add the rouge to American football.  It would be awesome and make kickoffs way more interesting.  You could still allow fair catches, but if the kick isn't returnable, it's a point.

Because the state of Michigan has never had sports success?

I would be surprised, only…

I would be surprised, only because it was clear from the get-go that Shannon/Love were iffy to get admitted the whole time.  There was a good chance that neither would graduate in time to transfer.  Juwan did not get blindsided here.  He gambled on them graduating, with no backup plan, and got burned.

That game was a classic …

That game was a classic "shit happens" kind of thing.  FAU couldn't shoot straight (5-27 from downtown) but still was on the verge of sealing the game at the end of regulation, only to miss the front end of a 1-and-1 when they were up two points.  NW then tied the game and in OT, FAU ran out of gas.

May's coached six NCAA tournament games.  He's won four, lost one in OT and the other by one point.  Not too shabby.

It helps that our new coach…

It helps that our new coach is more willing to get out and sell the program to the general public.

May is already making the rounds.  Here's a nice interview he just did:

You do realize the "Fire…

You do realize the "Fire Bakich!" thing was a shtick?

We have some nutters, but by the standards of a huge sports school, our fanbase is relatively tame.  Spend some time in SEC country - or Ohio - and you see the difference.

The O-Zone is still an…

The O-Zone is still an active board to this day.  That's where the link above comes from.

Fish was better imo than…

Fish was better imo than Izzo, but ended up spending 75% of his career at San Diego State.  If he would have stayed at Michigan, he'd have continued to rack up Final Fours.

Nah - while he is a little…

Nah. While he is a disgusting human being (quite probably a rape enabler), strictly as a basketball coach Izzo has been quite successful, although in recent years he seems to be declining.

Jud, otoh, got lucky with Magic Johnson and was given the job for life - and then didn't win jack the rest of his career.  However, he was probably a much better person than Izzo.

And THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE…

THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE OSU:

Nope, he plans to "make a…

Nope, he plans to "make a deep run or die trying."

Tbf, sometimes refs do…

Tbf, refs do sometimes decide to change the way they officiate at halftime.

He'll probably say May was …

He'll probably say May was "scared of the pressure at UL" or similar.

I think Northwestern is more…

I think Northwestern is more into the "transcational" experience.  UK, and Nova, too.

Crisler.

Crisler.

They didn't go to the…

They didn't go to the national championship game.  They were thrashed 38-0 in the semifinal by Bama.

Not sure about Stitt but for…

Not sure about Stitt but for several years he was pushing anyone with an offensive philosophy vaguely similar to RichRod's: Tom Herman, Dan Mullen, even Scott Frost for a while.

The bigger obstacle to "some…

Well, "some other coaches" will have to deal, because May just took the job.

I have confidence that May…

I have confidence that May will focus on transfers that can actually get admitted, like Harbaugh.  That tends to work out better.

UM will not make the tourney…

UM will not make the tourney next year, nor the year after that.

Next year is a total rebuild, but beyond that is anyone's guess.  Things change quickly in this sport.  It was only two years ago that we were in the Sweet 16.

We just hired a coach with…

We just hired a coach with Final Four experience.  That doesn't happen all the time.

This time around, everyone…

This time around, everyone knows the cupboard is empty.   We just went 8-24.  There also shouldn't be any question about whether he understands life in the Big Ten, since he went to IU.

As someone who has…

As someone who has criticized Warde ... I tip my cap.  This is bigtime.

Juwan could have also chosen…

Juwan could have also chosen to target guys that could get admitted here.  Crazy thought, I know.

And what if none of those…

And what if none of those four guys want the job?

Take a look at who has gotten hired at P5 jobs around the country.  It’s mostly mid-major guys and assistants.

The issue has nothing to do…

The issue has nothing to do with hating Duke and everything to do with that Coach K’s assistants haven’t done well as head coaches, in general.  Consider that, after 40+ years of K producing head coaches, the best Duke could do was promote Scheyer.

I think you overrate how…

I think you overrate how difficult it is to make a splashy hire.  Every realistic guy brings some degree of risk.

Louisville's about to hire May, incidentally.

Collins has taken full…

Collins has taken full advantage of the Covid rule these last two years.  Look at his whole body of work.

Dude, he took Florida…

Dude, he took Florida Atlantic to the Final Four.  And it wasn't just a matter of getting hot at the end of the season; FAU won 35 games last year.

There's a reason he's at the top of every open school's wish list.

This has less to do with…

This has less to do with winning and more to do with how active the mods are at any given time.

The word “failure” is…

The word “failure” is sensationalist?  Really?

I’m not a big “society is growing soft” guy but honestly, the idea that someone went to the Daily and complained about this is … pretty soft.

The Daily should have stood its ground.

This man is a gift that…

This man is a gift that keeps giving.  I'll miss the sheer entertainment value of his tenure when he's fired.

He also argued for Tom…

He also argued for Tom Herman, Dan Mullen and even Scott Frost at various points.

The fact that Urbana…

The fact that Urbana-Champaign is in the middle of nowhere probably doesn't help.

Only Taylor went pro that…

Only Taylor went pro that year ('97).  Traylor/Baston/Bullock played another year at Michigan.

 Duncan Robinson is on an…

Duncan Robinson is on an NBA team after his first contract.

Robinson even making an NBA team in the first place seemed completely bonkers c. 2018.

You don’t even need a coach…

You don’t even need a coach with that trio, just roll the ball out and go.

Just like when we had two NBA 1st-rounders and Hunter Dickinson in 2022-23?

Juwan screwed himself by 1)…

Juwan screwed himself.  First, by pursuing guys that were iffy at best to get admitted and second, by having no backup options whatsoever when they didn't get in.

The difference being that…

The difference being that both football programs were at or close to a national championship level.  Here they're asking Diebler to do better than his own mentor.

A month ago, would you have…

A month ago, would you have considered Jake Diebler a serious coaching candidate?   If not, you're saying that he should get a job based on eight games.

Teams often experience a little "sugar rush" under an interim coach after his precedessor gets fired.  Be wary of those results.   That kind of thing got us Brian Ellerbe as our head coach.

With a healthy Livers we…

With a healthy Livers we probably would have made the Final Four (we really should’ve beaten UCLA as it was) but don’t think we’d have beaten Baylor.

The handwringing over admissions and early departures doesn’t do it for me.  That’s life.  You can’t pin all your program’s hopes on one guy.  Good programs have a plan B and keep moving.  Beilein lost a ton of guys early (and to transfers) and his program didn’t miss a beat.

When a guy inherits a team…

When a guy inherits a team coming off consecutive 30-win seasons and winds up 8-24 once his predecessor’s players are gone, it doesn’t take an angry mob to fire him.

It was the second anger…

It was the second anger incident.  The year before he had had to be restrained from going after Maryland’s Turgeon.

I was OK with the 5-game suspension(that’s not a slap on the wrist, especially since it took place in the stretch run of the season) but I don’t know how he survived the Sanderson thing, on top of all that.

So when the NCAA president…

So when the NCAA president said we won the national title fair and square, that was just a bait and switch?

I didn’t think it was possible for OSU fans to get more desperate and pathetic than they already were, but here we are.

I prefer to allow the people…

I prefer to allow the people who's jobs it is to evaluate the program and make those determinations to do so.

As Brian has pointed out many times, "People in charge of things are often in charge of them for no good reason."

We just went 8-23, and 3-17 in league play.  Nkamhoua is done and Dug is probably gone to the portal.  What are we clinging to here?

Wasn’t Giving Bluday after…

Wasn’t there a Giving Blueday after Thanksgiving?  And then another around Christmas?  How many of these are there?
