For me, the two best sports…

For me, hockey and football are the two best sports on the planet, followed by snow-skiing.

Haha, absolutely.  I forgot…

Haha, absolutely.  I forgot for a minute who we were talking about here.  But for now anyway it looks like it will probably work out for both parties as a win/win for the Chargers and Vikings at 5.

No, you are right.  And as…

No, you are right.  And as Klatt points out, Jim will probably try and do that for JJ because they're so tight.

Also 100% Gentile, although some New Testament scholars might consider believers in Jesus to be "Jews inwardly", Ro 2.29.

At any rate, Mazel tov!

Yes, a little disappointing…

Yes, a little disappointing actually.  I'd have gone big block all day, with some blue and maize in it as well, and maybe an inscription underneath it like, "Those who stay..."

But hey, it's a tat.  Gotta love that.

Edit: I would have thrown some roses in there as well to commemorate the Rose Bowl win, beating Alabama and sending Saban into retirement.

Especially since his income…

Especially since his income has been in the 7-8 figure range for most of his working life.  I'm sure there were some 6 figure years sprinkled in there when he got started coaching.  But even then, his investment returns were probably pushing him up into 7 figures.

It means you're really smart, about a lot of things.

True, and yet we see what the Nuts have done, hiring Bjork from Texas A&M and rostering the best college football athletes money can buy.  In the pros, there's a cap that levels the field.

We can only hope that enough…

We can only hope that enough of him rubbed off on his understudy/protege that we get 75%-80% of what we had.

But you're right, you can see it in his eyes, the intensity and focus.

But he was there when Kirby fielded a generational defense that pretty much shut our offense right down in the semifinal game.  He can tell Sherrone how they did it at Georgia and Sherrone can explain it to Ward.

It will be interesting to see how we work to preserve our culture in the changing world of NIL.

C'mon back Keon!

When my son played AAA, the…

When my son played AAA, the officiating was blatantly biased when we traveled to Chicago to play Team Illinois.  It got so bad one year, that to stay in the League, TI had to bring in referees from out of state to officiate their games.

They are not going to have…

They are not going to have any excuses this year.  So many good/strong/excellent players coming back.  Their RB room and ours have got to be #1-#2 in the nation, pick 'em.  They've got The Game in the commode this year.  And probably the greatest factor of all, having lost 3 straight, the desperation factor, the will to win, will be very high for the Nuts.

Plus, Ryan is starting to get it, although I'm not sure he can implement it.  Last year before the game, when asked about the keys to victory, he said in his tough-guy voice, "Run the ball, stop the run, and win the turnover battle."  Then post-game when asked why they didn't win, he said, "In this Game, you gotta win the rushing yards and you've got to win the turnover battle and we did neither of those things."

It's going to be a great Game this year.  We'll see if their OL can make a jump, and how they fare against Graham & Grant, et al.

Good point.  I guess from a…

Good point.  I guess from a Michigan Football player perspective, they see this coach get hired, he's got a great gig coaching D Line at UM, he's got Graham and Grant, gifts from God above to make him look like a great coach and in one night it's all gone.  As you say, his priors probably removed any consideration for leniency, and now he's unemployed.

Observe and learn young men.

Unfortunate for him but…

Unfortunate for him but great for the program that they show a zero-tolerance policy.  Put the fear of God into our young student-athletes.  One bad mistake / error in judgment can cost you your position on the team, your scholarship, and your NIL bag that is still to be paid out, and could end up costing you a lucrative career in the pros.

Choose wisely, young men.

Not top 5, but I love this…

Not top 5, but I love this short clip about that game (pretty sure I copied this from an Athletic article about Sherrone):

In a cramped corner of Penn State’s visitors’ locker room, Sherrone Moore headed straight for his offensive line.

This was Moore’s first major stress test as Michigan’s head coach, and it was a doozy: a top-10 matchup on the road, nearly 111,000 fans in the stands, Jim Harbaugh stuck in a hotel room. The team learned of Harbaugh’s suspension on the flight to State College, and Moore found out 90 minutes before the game that he’d be the acting head coach. Now he had to tear up his game plan and figure out a way to protect a five-point lead with his line struggling to block Penn State’s pass rush.

Moore let Michigan’s offensive linemen know what was coming. The room was small enough that other position groups could hear the message loud and clear.

"Fellas, we’re going to run the ball right up their ass."

The scene that day in State College is the simplest explanation for why Moore is now Michigan’s head coach. He decided Michigan was going to impose its will on Penn State, and 32 consecutive running plays later, the Wolverines walked away with a 24-15 victory. Moore, overcome with emotion, unleashed a postgame interview that will be replayed for the rest of his coaching career.

“I want to thank the Lord,” Moore said, tears streaming down his face. “I want to thank coach Harbaugh. I f— love you, man. I love the s— out of you. We did this for you.”

Moore provided a rare glimpse into the core of a coach who typically maintains a guarded demeanor in public. But for the people who know him well, nothing about that day was a surprise — not Moore’s poise under pressure, not his ability to rise to the occasion, not the emotions that poured out in his postgame interview.

Wish I could take credit for it.  I don't spend much time on FB these days but it happened to pop up on my news feed from Brad Galli over on channel 7, WXYZ.

Nice catch Brad!

This pic shows the target Cat was shooting at, that little triangle between the goalie's catching glove, his leg pad, and the post.  Cat's stick is flexed and he's probably pretty close to the release point, the puck coming off his stick.  Edit:  I just noticed that other stick almost blocking the shot.  These pros are something else.

Nice snipe!

Yup, one of the signs of a good team is when you still win even when you're not playing your best.

They certainly are playing well enough to get into the playoffs.  But it's shaping up to be a tough first-round draw against Boston, Florida, or the Rangers.  It will be interesting to see if Stevie can make a move before the deadline, without giving too much up.  We're a good team, solid, but probably need a couple of pieces to compete with the top teams for a Cup.

You know I didn't think of…

You know I didn't think of it until you mentioned it.  The Wings do have a lot of grit.  We don't have the McDavid's or the Mackinnons or the Makars but it's a solid group that works hard.

Vegas was built the same way for their Cup run.  They had some good and great players but probably not what you'd call elite.  But they were deep and solid up and down the lineup.

Yeah, I've had to temper my hatred a little bit.  After playing for West Point for 4 years my middle son was stationed in Colorado Springs.  They must have got to him.  For someone who played at a pretty high level (my son, not me) he appreciates the speed with which they play.  Mackinnon and Makar are elite and they've got depth.  When he was out there they were winning a Cup and the Wings sucked ass.

He likes the Wings too, which is weird.  Datsyuk was his favorite.  And now he has my first grandchild so I have to be civil.

But now the Wings are like Michigan Football and even the Lions!  From sucking ass to excellence.  I don't remember Detroit having this many teams so competitive.  Full props to Stevie Y and Newsie, Coach Jim, and MCDC.  LGRW!

"throwing $5 million away…

"throwing $5 million away into a rainy-day investment fund might be a formality to you or me"

That's the crazy part to me.  He could have blown 95% of the $100M, or let's say 90% of his $50M net after taxes and agent.  If he had a good pro managing that $5M, he could earn $250K a year in interest, possibly tax-free if uses municipal bonds.  That is a very nice retirement wage.

How about Clark Fredericks…

How about Clark Fredericks Stadium, after the guy who recovered after being abused by his scoutmaster.

During sentencing, the judge apologized for having to sentence him to 5 years minus time served, which he used wisely to get treatment, therapy and unscramble his mind.  Now he helps others who have been abused salvage what's left of their lives.

Considering the year CJ had…

Considering the year CJ had with the Texans, and the receiving corps he had with the Nuts, what a stellar job Minter, Clink, Elston, and the whole defense did holding them to 24 points.

Glorious.

I had a hard time seeing the “elbow” in the video.

Yup, he flopped like a soccer player.  I think he had twin Freddie P. Soft's, one standing on each shoulder, chirping at him to take a dive and writhe around in agony for 30 seconds.

Nice to see the NCAA going…

Nice to see the NCAA going the opposite direction of the pitchfork crowd on MSU and OSU boards screaming for our championship and wins to be vacated.  I loved when the NCAA talking head said that we won, "fair and square".

Now, Warde, let's compensate players to the extent we are able to under current NIL rules so that we can compete for the best high school and portal talent out there.

I thought the exchanges…

I thought the exchanges between Pat and Sherrone were entertaining.  Pagano said some great things about Michigan.  I believe his nephew played for Coach Jim.  AJ Hawk bucknut admitted how great our player development was.  The best though was when Hawk asked Sherrone what things he was going to carry over in the program from the Harbaugh era and the first thing Sherrone said was the "toughness, blue-collar mentality..." and the look on Hawk's face was priceless.  He blinked, lowered his head, and then the look on his face.  I just thought it was awesome.  It just reminded me of 2021, Hassan and that O Line running it down their throat.

My thoughts as well.  In the…

My thoughts as well.  In the end, the moment was just a little too big for them with all the mistakes.

If Jim Harbaugh is coaching that team he takes the points.

The irony is that other…

The irony is that other teams are doing what Jim advocated for, paying players, just consistent with the current rules.

I still have PTSD from those last seasons of BPONE.  I'm concerned we're going to get curb-stomped in Columbus next year.  Perhaps Manuel and Moore will surprise me...

Santa, we need your help.

And he made the practice…

And he made the practice attempt too.  Usually that bodes well for the next attempt but he got the yips.

Such a great hit, a de…

Such a great hit, a de-cleater.  One that makes the receiver question if his QB is going to get him killed.  A great momentum shifter as well, getting off the field with conviction and slamming that door shut.

Or Juwan yelling, "THEY SAID…

Or Juwan yelling, "THEY SAID YOU COULDN'T BEAT OHIO STATE!  NOW WHAT!"

Sheila Hamp, Chris Spielman,…

Sheila Hamp, Chris Spielman, Brad Holmes, Dan Campbell, Ben Johnson, Aaron Glenn, Goff, Hutchinson and GRIT.

Hamp put together the right executive team, including Spielman and they got the vision right of what type of GM and Head Coach they wanted.

Holmes and Campbell are studs.

Johnson is a great offensive mind, very creative, and excels at attacking defenses.

Glenn has been good enough with what we have on that side of the ball.  The last draft was used mostly on the offensive side of the ball.  We'll probably see more resources invested in D next year.

Goff and Hutch are great leaders for their respective units.

Edit:  After reading others' comments, I felt remiss not adding the OL and DL to the list.

The ironic thing is that…

The ironic thing is that Coach Jim wants to pay players.  He wants them to get their share of the revenue.  That can happen through NIL, perhaps not in a wholly legitimate way but that is what other teams are doing and no one is telling them that it is wrong.

And yet we seem to be behind the curve a bit.  We're paying players, but it's later in their careers and it's not as much money, from what I'm hearing...

In spot duty Orji looked…

In spot duty Orji looked good but he needs more reps.  It looked like he was so excited to be in there that he just wanted to take off running, which worked great on the first play.  The second play in both games looked like the jet sweep might have been the better option.

MCDC has absolutely changed…

MCDC has absolutely changed the culture by bringing in "his (and Brad's) guys".  And Aidan is a poster child for grit, toughness, and work ethic.  We see and hear him on the sidelines prodding and encouraging his teammates, not to take a play off.  The guy has a world-class motor and he leads others without being obnoxious.

Love this team.  We might need a few more pieces in the defensive backfield, DL, and WR to win the Super Bowl but Campbell is getting everything out of what he has.  Fun to watch.

Username checks out.

Username checks out.

I followed a similar journey…

I followed a similar journey, the ups and downs of fandom.  I'm 63 and my username is an homage to the '85 and '97 defenses.  I loved watching opposing offenses try and move the ball forward only to see our dominant front 7's crush their intentions with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind.

Lloyd was frustrating because if they had only opened up the offense like he did in his last game we could have achieved so much more.  The RichRod years were tough, but then Denard became so fun to watch.  Hoke started with promise then faded.  The injustice of 2016 forced me to reevaluate my passion for Michigan football altogether.  Why become so emotionally invested when a game can be stolen from you by the officials?  (It wasn't the spot so much as the consistently biased calls throughout the game, the PI call against us and the PI non-call against them.  The ref slapping a bucknut's ass after a successful play.)

I always had faith in Coach Jim.  Even when it looked the most bleak I knew his passion and NFL track record proved he could do it at the college level.  At least I believed he could.  While I admired our approach to NIL on principle, I questioned if we would ever win a National Championship without paying players like other programs have.

Well whaddayaknow?  It turns out a Ball Team, a Brotherhood that loves each other, is well-coached, highly trained, and physically and mentally developed can beat multiple bands of mercenaries.  While I love JJ and Blake, Zak and Trevor, Jim, Jesse, Sherrone, Mike Hart, Jay, Clink, and Mike Elston, (what a staff!  truly elite, world-class), the Don, Mason Graham & Kenneth Grant, I think I respect, admire and appreciate how we won just as much - developing the character of young Michigan Men.

A season for the ages.

The question is.. do the…

The question is.. do the Buckeye boosters have pockets as deep as A&M oil money?

Boosters?  I thought Name, Image, and Likeness was about capitalizing on a player's popularity commercially.  Like signing autographs, doing commercials, and endorsing products.  If you're using Booster money isn't that pay to play?  Isn't that against the rules?  Where's the NCAA in all of this? /s

No wonder Coach Jim's heading for the NFL.  Suspended for 1/2 the season?  He's all about competing with well-defined rules.  CFB is a joke, which makes our winning the National Championship the way we did all that more satisfying.

Million-dollar question...how do we replace Coach Herb?

Well Done!  Thx for posting!…

Well Done!  Thx for posting!

Had similar thoughts…

Had similar thoughts listening to Feldman on Eisen's show.  He's had to change his tune since the NCAA came out and said we won fair and square.

And with Coach Jim's suspensions, it's like we did it with one arm tied behind our backs.

Some on this blog had some pretty clever descriptions of Feldman.  I was trying to remember them.  Weasel?  Then I pretty much moved on.  Gotta do some work, clean up the house for the game tonight.
