Technically don’t they need…

Technically don’t they need us to win as well? No way 2 Big 10 teams are getting in if we lose and no way OSU is getting in above us.

Looking for 5 (or 4) tickets…

Looking for 5 (or 4) tickets to the East Carolina game. Taking my kids to their first game. Coming from CA.

Thanks

Try opening the page in …

Try opening the page in “private” mode on your phone. I could never get the website to open. Tried opening it once on private and it worked perfectly. No load time at all. I’m not smart enough to know the difference between the regular safari and the private setting but it works for me.

6 singles and 1 doubles…

6 singles and 1 doubles point (whomever wins the majority of the 3 doubles matches gets the doubles point)

The car fox originally comes…

The car fox originally comes from the commercial where a sales person tries to avoid providing a CaxFax - he “mishears” the request for a CarFax.  It made some logical sense in a one off commercial. The fact that it became the mascot and has lasted 12+ years is insane. I too hate him.

Car

I'm a long time resident. A couple of quick tips (there is a ton I could say). Don't rent a car. Take Bart into the city and walk/take public transit around. Use Hotwire or one of those and just get a hotel around union square or fishermans wharf/north beach.

Traditional tourist stuff that is still unique- cable car, Lombard (crooked street - walk up/down it), coit tower is fun. If you bike, bike across the Golden Gate.

Just plan to walk around and take it in.

Tom VH

Anyone know the reach of the layoffs? Hopefully Tom VH is safe.

Michigan

Wasn't there a rumor he was a candidate for Michigan?

Perry

Perry was my pick as well.  And since everyone is listing a second name, I will go with Evans.

Already deducted

I beleive the wikipedia article you cite to already has the wins removed.  So you should not deduct them again.  SO ND is still #2 with a .729 win percentage.

Chart?

Chart.

Based on your chart it certainly seems that Indiana has more (thus making your title false)

Recruiting

Someone will have to educate me on this.  Isn't that a recruiting violation? Or is he only prohibited from recruiting once he starts school?

That would be

That would be pretty surprising. He played a fair amount last year and seems like the heir apparent to Butt for the receiving TE position.

And just because I looked it up:

LSU went from 10-3 (9-3 regular season) in 2013 to 8-5 (8-4 regular season) in 2014. Thought there would have been a larger drop off.

Elliott

I think that is Jordan Elliott

True

I think he wants to go to UGA (all things being equal).  But man it would be a huge risk to commit to a coach sight unseen.  While I guess it is possible, it seems really unlikely.  Espeically if he never really met Smart.

Who Smart gets for his staff (and when) is goign to be real interesting.  I haven't even heard names thrown out (not that I follow UGA at all)

Nauta

I seem to recall that Smart said he is staying on with Bama until after the National Championship game (assuming Bama is in it).  Am I misremembering that?

I also seem to recall that Nauta is an early enrollee.  Am I correct on that?

If those two things are true doesn't think basically kill UGA's chances?  Smart won't even technically be UGA's coach until after Nauta decides?  Seem like this might also hinder Smart's ability to put otgether a staff/recruit during December.

My first ever double post....

Good job me.

I agree with you but...

I agree but, then OSU went on to win the championship.  So while BIg 12 can argue "we got screwed last year" it doesn't work so well since the team that got in above them won the whole thing.

I personally think that Michigan ends up ahead of any 1 loss Big 12 team but Oklahoma.  Based upon rankings right now, it certainly feels like the committee has no love for the Big 12.

Look at it this way- TCU has 1 loss and we are ahead of them now.  They win out they add some quality wins, but they are over the same group of Big 12 that the committee is worried about.  We also would add 2 quaslity wins over the #2 or 3 ranked team (OSU) and the #4 or 5 ranked team.  (assuming no losses for Iowa and OSU).

I just don't see any Big 12 team getting in with 1 loss (except OK since they already have one loss and are ahead of us)

52-14

Michigan

My simulation

I'm just going to leave the result when I simulated it here and make no additional comment...

FINAL SCORE -- Michigan (2016): 38 - Michigan State (2016): 0

Punt'Kick Returner

With all the Breaston comps, are we thinking he fits in as the primary kick/punt returner when Peppers leaves?

Space

This may not be a firm source on this issue per se, but it is on the internet so it must be true.

http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/bolden-ringer-be-early-enrollees-what-does-…

If you look at comment #6 it discusses this issue.  That was my understanding too.  That the backdating isn't about the 85 limit, it is about the 25 per class limit.  So if we signed 22 or less in the previous class, we can backdate up to 3.

[I've seen it numerous other places on the internets, but nothing that I would call "official"]

Edit- thinking about it more, I question this.  If you can only have 85 on scholarship at one time, then you need to have 82 or less on scholarship in order to have space for the 3 early enrolees.

So basically I am no help..Just ignore my writing and imagnine a gif of a kitten doing something fun...

I don't think that is a concern though

I don't think we are concerned with the 25 vs 28 limit.  I think the scholarship concern is the 85 cap.  Being able to backdate some doesn't help with the 85 number, which is the one UM is over/will be pushing up against in 2016.

This is a good point

I think this is a good point, but my understanding is there are other medicals to be announced. So they will have room for the ND DE.  Also, with Pipkins saying he is going to transfer, they do have room for him.  Yet, they told the ND DE to look elsewhere.  I don't think that is the move you make if you really want to take him (so badly you are forcing more than 1 player out of the program)

That's incorrect right?

Maybe you know something I don't, but it looks like the Dpeth Chart Tab has all the transfers included and we aren't over 85.  Is there someone coming in that isn't included in there?

(There could always be someone we haven't heard about coming in- which could certainly raise the worry with this move- but I haven't heard anything yet)

Not over

According to the "Depth Chart by Class" tab, we are actually at the scholarship limit with Pipkins on the roster.  So, at the moment (with all the transfers we know about) there is no reason to "force him out" to get his scholarship.  Maybe there are other transfers we want but can't fit- that would make this look/be nefarious.  But at the moment there is no need for his scholarship.

Similarly, this wasn't the only medical expected.  There are/were at least 1 or 2 more.  So unless we are bringing in 2-3 more transfers the idea we needed to cut him to get his scholarship doesn't make sense.

Correct me if I am wrong

But this doesn't make sense, right?  Pipkins is a Sr.  His leaving frees up a scholorship THIS YEAR (when we don't need it) but does nothign for any other year.  There is absolutely no strategic reason to force him off and "free up a scholorship" we don't need.

July

TomVH tweeted a few days back that Hawkins will visit UM on July 18.  He said he wants to make his decision on his birthday- July 26th (or something like that)

I was just about to

I was just about to write that this doesn't include Caleb Kelly.

It is pretty amazing that the class (sans Gary) looks like it will pretty much be wrapped up by late July (assuming Hawkins commits [to us] on his birthday as he indicated).

Space in the class

It is pretty interesting.  We have 20 commits, assuming we go to 25 (rather than finding a way to get to the possible 28) we have 5 spaces left:

1) Have to save one for Gary.

2) Another OL-EJ Price or Terrance Davis

3) hopefully Naseir Upshur (probably need another TE)

4) a WR- Hawkins or Ahmir Mitchell(?)

5) Devin Bush(?)

Insteresting with so few spaces left at the moment.

Edit: And I forgot about Quinn Nordin who seems destined for this class.

Recruiting Roundup

should be interesting tomorrow...

So...

So if I read you comment right, Sam is now less confident that something will happen, but Trieu is more confident?

Agree

This is one of the really hard thing about all the moral calls we as fans make (or at least that I make).  We are doing it with far from perfect information.  Sometimes we only know one side of the story.  Other times we know neither side of the story.  Yet we (I) always like to make a call about what is right/wrong.

Worry

This is one of the (ok, probably the only) concern I have with Harbaugh.  Given his competative nature he is going to do things that rub people the wrong way.  This is the thing he is going to do that rubs me the wrong way.  I really think doing anything that screws over the kids is bad.  I am probably going to have a hard time accepting it if this ends up happening at Michigan.

The potetnially mitigating thing we will probably never know is: what were kids told?  There has been a lot of talk that the Safety from Florida (drawing a blank on his name at the moment) was going to get a grayshirt offer here.  Then the next day he committed.  Now did he commit with the warning from Harbaugh that you can commit, but we may end up grayshirting you?  If so I don't have as much of a problem with it.  If he committed to a "guaranteed" spot and later he is told grayshirt or you are out I would have a major problem with that.

This whole thing is what makes college football fandom a sketchy process- making moral/opinion based calls with limited (no) information.

I would probably avoid

Probably avoid Mission, Marina and North Beach.  All great neighborhoods but Mission is probably not safe enough for you and the other two are too expensive.

I would check out the pan handle (around Oak & Fell west of Divisadero), potrero hill, inner sunset (south of golden gate park out to about 20th ave) and Cole Valley (if you can find something in your price range)

I second this

I second this if you are a little older.  Maybe not best place to start in the Bay Area though if you want the SF experience.  WC, Lafayette and Orinda are great neighborhoods.  WC is by far the largest with the most stuff to do.

Broadly

1) Look on craigslist.  It really is the palce to look for places out here.  There is also the app padhopper it is semi-useful.

2) Areas in SF:  You are going to need to do the roommate thing at that price.

1) Mission- it still has some rough parts so you should definatley check out the place/area to make sure you are comfortable.  It’s probably the best mixture of cheaper price, younger people, convenient location, lots of bars/restaurants and safe(-ish).  You could put lower Haight in this category as well.

2) The Marina/Cow Hollow- basically post-college aged kids.  Tons of bars/restaurants.  Very safe.  Convenient to public transport, but not freeways.  Very expensive.  Laurel Heights would be another similar neighborhood.  As would Noe Valley (just further out) and North Beach.  Put Russian Hill and Nob Hill as similar neighborhoods.

3) Pan Handle- this is where I lived when I first moved to SF.  A pretty good situation for finding roommates.  Not bad for safety/commute.  Not much night life that close.

4) Cole Valley- probably in the same vein as The Marina, but a little less nightlife right there, a little further out and a little cheaper.

5) Patrero Hill- can find some good places here.  Again not as much nightlife right there, and a little longer commute, but cheaper.

Stuff out by the Ocean- (say past 30th Ave) is much cheaper.  There isn’t a ton of nightlife out there and the commute is long.  And it is COLD.  (not snow cold, but tons and tons of fog).

Sorry this is pretty rambling….

Can you give a little bit more info?

Neighborhoods in SF and Oakland are very different.  So what are you looking for?  Are you young? Do you want to live right by restaurants/bars?  Do you want to live with younger people or a calmer neighborhood?  What do you value more- safety/space/the scene/cost.

Sorry, tough to give suggestions without really knowing someone (or knowing more about them).

And

And discussion of him in this very post.

My Guess

If this is true, I think it has to be Devin Bush.

Front Page

From the mailbag on the front page

Can you imagine

If he is a 3-star can you imagine what someone like Fournette would do to them?  Could he run for 49 TDs that game?

Erik

Check out Erik in Dayton being real...

/s

I agree

with the addition that maybe Harbaugh is #1 since he has a proven record of developing QBs and he is the head coach of a football team (ie could give you a scholarship).  But I agree Whitfield is a (the?) big name in the QB development world.

Alex

If we take the last 10 (5 games after LeVert injury) or 15 games (LeVert injury) of the season for him, who are his comparators in his "Most Similar Statistical Profile?"

Just curious who that Zak resembled.

Thanks

I think this should exist

Interestingly, I think this should exist (ie the NCAA should not close the loop hole).

I think allowing others schools to come to an area and meet kids/teach the game is a good thing.  Yes, it hurts the regional schools (since it gives other schools a chance to meet local kids and "recruit"), but it helps kids.  Kids in TX who don't have enough money to travel to Michigan (or any other school that does this) for an unofficial can meet the coaches, learn more about the school etc.  [I assume these camps cost money but also have a scholorship program for those who can't afford it]

Also, it allows more high school kids to attend more camps and recieve top level instruction (hopefully inproving their game- the goal of a camp).  It is certainly beneficial to all high school players to get more high level instruciton - even if they aren't of the ability to play at UM or the like.

I actually would like to see lots of schools do this (although that would lessen Michigan's advanatage of doing it]

Since I am pro this and think it helps kids, the NCAA will certainly shut it down.

You are right

Basically everybody thought the tickets were going to be really hot last year.  Tons of people bought season tickets with the sole purpose of reselling them.  Then the season started and there was almost no market.  I doubt they have very many season ticket renewals this year.

Or maybe

they are setting Tomsula up to fail so they can bring in a higher profile coach in a year or two.  There  really weren't any high profile coaches on the market this year (other than Harbaugh).  Maybe they try to get Mora again or Kelly next year.  Another year an there may be more high profile college coaches leaving.

Or (more likily) the 49ers' management is just dumb.
