My Humblest Apologies Mr. The Knowledge: I doubted your initial story re SS getting fired. Wow, what a pipeline you must have. Keep up the "great" work.
He Wouldn't Have Made A Difference This Year For those of you who are hoping for a savior, I'd like to dim your enthusiasm. Navy's QB(yeah, I watched that dumb game today)is a SENIOR who is listed at 5"11, 194 lbs. He was probably Forcier's size coming out of HS. No way was he(or Forcier for that matter)ready to QB Navy his freshman year. We are probably two seasons away from Forcier(if even he is the real deal)taking the reins. Beaver wouldn't have made a difference, at least not this season. Playing true freshmen in key positions at this level will result in disaster, or injury, or both. Had Michigan had the luxury of having more upper-classmen, McGuffie could have been red-shirted, and started playing in 2010, when he would have been a third year sophomore. Then he could have bulked up in weight from 180 to maybe 205. We are stuck with Threet as the QB for the time-being. Deal with it.
Keep Him As LB Coach Where was the weak link in our defense? At LB. Obi Ezeh had a great beginning(two games, to be exact)then learned how not to fight off blockers; John Thompson ranged from average to horrible; Jonas Mouton started the season invisible, but actually came on somewhat at the end. The reserves? Marrell Evans? Austin Panter? Brandon Logan? Brandon Herron? Exactly. Naming this guy DC would be a big mistake. The Big Ten has probably a dozen NFL caliber offensive linemen capable of blocking two players(DL first, then LB)on the same play. I don't think this guy saw many players who could do that at USM. First fix the problem at LB. Or else we'll have a repeat of last season all over again.
Good Job Lewan is the same size that Joe Thomas(former Badger, now Cleveland Brown)was coming out of HS. If he is like either Thomas or Jake Long, we will be in good shape. Keep the faith, gang.
I Don't Think You're Right, Dude If a coach is going to get fired, it usually happens within a day or two after the season ends. In Schaeffer's defense(no pun intended), Michigan's offense ranked near the bottom in all of NCAA D-I in time of possession, first downs made, third downs converted, as well as net turnover margin. How many three and outs did we make during the past season? Dozens. Once that stops, and the offense start moving the chains with consistency, the defense will be better. You can't have them on the field for 33-34 minutes a game and expect them to dominate. Not possible.
