I grew up on Bo's Michigan (went to my first game in 75 as a 5 yr old). So to me the stickers are a welcome return to the Michigan I grew up with. That said, I don't see what all the fuss is about. If the players and coaches like them, why would any fan feel compelled to be so against them? Is your professed love for our "look" so important that you'd sacrifice a motivational tool? Isn't that the same old Form over Function debate that's been debated for eons? Again, I'm fine with them or without. I happen to like them, but *shrug* who cares.... Worry less about how we look, worry more about how we play.

Not fair - I live in LA. So, my list is too long to post.
|1 year 31 weeks ago||While they've not yet||
While they've not yet announced anthing (that I'm aware of), typically the Alumni Association does a trip package for these typ of events. Usually, it's coordinated and managed by Conlin Travel. I've gone on them before - most recently to the Puerto Rico Tip Off. The whole trip was great. They arrange for all the important details in addition to stuff like being at the welcome banquet, etc. Access and proximity to the team are pretty impressive as well. I shared drinks with coaches, dined with players and their families and basically felt that much closer to the program. I would recommend the experience to any fan.
That said, I was probably one of the youngest in the group of 30-40ish people. Most were in the 50-70 yrs range. There were a few couples in their late 20's early 30's So, if you're looking to hang with a bunch of recent grads and whoop it up, this is not your scene.

I would second some sort of consecrated thread/board for Mgo-related postings. As mentioned above, the linkedin group seems dead. Something here, directly on the board seems more likely to have 1) traction and 2) focus on the much smaller, dedicated readership of the board.
As it happens, I'm actively looking to fill a couple positions at my startup here in LA. But I wouldn't want to start a thread on the main board for that.

Never said it would. I'm not trying to argue for or against Nike or Adidas. Just trying to present some real numbers/stats to help others put things in perspective.

Actually, I'm not. Quoting from the Budget I posted:
Licensing Royalties: Licensing royalties are primarily from apparel and product licenses that use the University's mark in merchandising operations....
Some, not all of that $6.3M is directly from the the cut Michigan gets for every t-shirt sold with the M on it.

Michigan's cut of licensed apparel is 12% of wholesale. Most schools are 10%.

I've been in LA for 20ish years. I live in the H'wood Hills. Given the requirements, I'd second the suggestions of Pasadena, Eagle Rock, Mt. Washington... Great combinations of location and local community without *too* much driving necessary (of course that's relative when we're talking LA ;)

|2 years 3 weeks ago||I'm surprised more people||
I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned some of the newer, more tech-savvy options out there...
Lending Club and Prosper offer Peer to Peer lending. If you wouldn't require quick liquidity it's a pretty good way to be fairly protected from the market and still earn nice returns. You need to develop some strategies as to which loans you want to invest in. But there is lots of good advice and tools out there to help with that. Over the last 3 years I've earned a solid 12% annually.
Robo-Advisors such as Betterment and Wealthfront are another option. While an actual financial advisor will charge you 1% - 2% these services charge only a fraction of that. In fact I believe Wealthfront waives the fee for accounts under $15K. They basically use Modern Portfolio Theory to do asset allocation via a set of ETFs and other instruments (typically Vanguard offerings). You could do it yourself if you wanted to... the services just do all the legwork for you. So, it's more of a set it and forget it model. You won't seriously outperform the market with any of these. But hopefully, you'd be protected from downside as they would exit/re-allocate should things take a downturn.
If you feel like being a bit more hands on then something like Motif might be interesting. I saw it mentioned earlier. Basically, it allows you to own lots of stocks without having to actually pay for them individually. One downside, they don't do dividend reinvestment. But say you liked Companies Based in Michigan for some reason, you could build your own little mutual fund of sorts that was made up of those stocks. So, while more forgiving perhaps than owning a single stock, you'd still need to closely monitor the market and investments.
Obviously there's no one right answer... everyone's situation, risk tolerance and requirements are different. So, I'm not suggesting these are necessarily appropriate for you. Just wanted to make sure they were part of the discussion.

I'm not agreeing with the OP here... but in the modern Internet world your specific argument is incorrect.
There are multiple ways to provide additional server/bandwidth resources only as needed. So, no - you don't need to build for the worst case scenario and have it sit idle the rest of the time.

I'm with you. This will eventually go to eight. Which in my min is even worse. Did anyone see the orange bowl crowd?! Half empty. That used to be one of THE big bowls. But hey, not a playoff bowl so why bother. May as well just ditch the rest of the bowls if we're really going all in on this playoff thing.
