Hah! The beauty of the TST is I get to follow the group winner if Ghana don't make it. That's why I'm hoping they don't. Then I'd get to follow my Germans!

I've got a TST-7 for Ghana. So, I'll be all over the place. Sadly I won't be getting there in time to catch the US-Ghana match. Had to sell that one back to FIFA.
First stop is Fortaleza on the 20th (Ghana-Germany on the 21st). Then staying in Jeri till the 27th. Down to Brasilia for the Ghana-Portugal match the 28th.
After that, kinda hoping Ghana are out. Then would be Porto Alegre for round of 16, Rio for quarters, Belo Horizonte for semi 1, then to Sao Paulo for semi 2, and then the Final.

Flight leaves next week for Brazil! Any other Mgobloggers headed down?

I see several commentors saying that somehow JK's selections will lead to a 0-3 early exit. My question to them would be this: Do you honestly believe there is ANY 23 man US roster that would make it out of the group? Barring small miracles (i.e., flukes having nothing to do with the US team), I don't see how the US gets out of this group under any circumstances. Given that, I'm fine with the US using this year's cup as a teaching moment to prepare for the future. Sucks for Landon, but ya gotta take the long view.

I've got a TST-7 for Ghana. Sadly gonna hafta miss the first match against the US in Natal. But will be there for the other 6 matches and maybe one or two more if I can swing it.

This is correct. If the match were competive and not just an exhibition, the field size regulations come into play. There was just recently an exhibition in St Louis at Busch Stadium, and the field for that was actually a couple meters shorter than regulation.

I've had a pair of my own for the past 20 yrs and now my parents' pair as well (since 72). My pair are one seat over from the PSD section. So I'm keeping those. But somewhat reluctantly, we'll be letting the pair in section 6 go. Just cannot justify them any longer. We were the last holdouts of a bunch of longtimers in that particular area. We've seen all of our seat-mates drop out one by one over the last 5 years or so. It's really sort of sad when I think back to the many fond memories formed while sitting in those seats. But things have changed so much... *sigh*

I was at the Puerto Rico Tip Off Tourney.... And having watched the team in person, I have to say, I'm not terribly worried. I'm not saying they'll win it all. But from all indications, the issues we do have are all correctible with time and coaching (something the bball team is not lacking). Yes, they are young. Yes, they still make freshman mistakes. Yes, they still need to work on their defense.
But despite all that, after the loss to Charlotte I came away thinking 'this will be a really good team come March/April"
I look forward to the team they will eventually gel into.

I was gonna stay out of this whole discussion... But in all the posts on the subject over the last couple weeks, I've not seen this little tidbit brought up. If it was and I missed it, apologies.
Let me preface by saying this applies only to student football game attendance. Basically, you all suck and here's why. You are at that game as a student at the University of Michgan. That means you are there to support your team on the field. Showing up late or not at all is disrespectuf to that team, they deserve better. Want proof? Read this comment from Thomas Gordon in the Akron postgame presser:
Was there an emotional letdown this game?
Gordon: "Well that can be an excuse, but we still expect to come out and execute and compete. We did not do that. But you know, obviously you see the stands at the beginning of the game, but it shouldn't affect you. This is a young team, and we can't let things like that affect the team."
There you have it, right from one of the leaders on the team - the student section sucked. He mans up and accepts it's no valid excuse for a poor performance. But it doesn't change the fact that it was noted and I'd be willing to bet it did make an impression on the team. Probably Akron too. So, leave your lame excuses in the dorm and get to the game.

I'm staying in midtown and I've been seeing Louisville fans arriving throughout the day. I was just down in the hotel lobby a few minutes ago (12:30 am-ish) and 4 or 5 more parties were just checking in. I have a feeling half the state of KY might be in GA right now...

not so much in relation to the "official" sections (117-119, 124). 130 is in the opposite corner, on the same end of the court as those.

I think you're right that they must still be updating... In the tally I only see the 40 for being an alum listed. Shows 0's for everything else. But my total shows as 45 which is less than what it should be.

I think this is overly critical.
I too was a student during their reign and attended both FF trips. To say the losses were disappointing is one thing. But to say they didn't live up to expectations is to my mind beyond harsh. We all knew they were going to be good - but the freshman year was far better than what the preseason expectations were. The soph year certainly had high expectations. And while they didn't bring home the championship, it's not as if they choked and bailed in the second round or anything. They were there at the very end and ended up perhaps one miscalled TO away from winning it.
Despite not actually winning the title, I consider those two years as some of the most successful in program history (putting aside the unrelated stuff that had nothing to do with what happened on the court).
