Also, I think college football is almost a different game from the NFL. I know many of us do not follow the NFL at all. CFB doesn't aspire to be like the NFL and neither does its fans want it to. It has its own (richer) history and traditions. Whereas, I imagine the MLS aspires to have the kind of talent and tradition that other soccer leagues have.

That's just within the state of Michigan. Nationwide, Michigan has a significantly higher following.

I thought his behavior in the State game was embarrassing. Any moral edge we might have thought we had because of the 2011 game was mocked because of Lewan.

True, but it has to be said that the goal is not someday to match MSU. The expectation for a Michigan coach is to have a clear edge in that rivalry. Our coaches from RR to the present have been failing that expectation. But don't get me wrong: I think Hoke should get another two years.

That's true, but he coaches for MSU, not Michigan. What's passable at State is not passable at here.

Dude, we're talking about scheduling Florida.
Anyhow, I assume such teams would rather play us than any other team in the B1G, aside from maybe OSU. This won't change because of some losses.

The B1G won't get respect unless it beats an SEC team. Same goes with the ACC.
The SEC is still the best conference, and I think a one-loss Auburn should get the nod over the Buckeyes, who are the beneficiaries of a weak conference.

Afterwards, the upset is rationalized just like every other upset is rationalized ("well, Gardner does have a lot of raw talent, and plus they had Gallon and Funchess, too, and the D is pretty good....")

Carr may have been 7-4 or similiar in the week heading into The Game, but there are different ways to be 7-4. We're 7-4 in just about the worst way possible.
I felt the same way about Rodriguez's final 7-5 year.
A 7-4 Carr team might've underperformed a bit (and that might be an understatement) but it was never a total disaster over a span of games like we've seen under Rodriguez and Hoke. A 7-4 Carr team was always dangerous.

We have always known that academics is important to Hand. Now all of a sudden (since the moment he committed to Alabama) Michigan people are acting as if all he cared about was football. The same kid we praised as a potential recruit for caring about academics is now being treated as if it was only about football.
We know that if he wanted to study engineering he was going to choose Alabama. To me, this only makes sense if he was steered away from the engineering program at Michigan.

True, he's being civil, but he's openly challenging (repeatedly and at exhaustive nit-picky length) Brian's take on things. SC's civility doesn't change the fact that he's saying (with a certain level of aggression) that Brian's ultimately wrong.
You have to defend yourself against such a thing, and Brian's doing so.
|41 weeks 2 days ago||It's clear to all of us that||
It's clear to all of us that Brian and SC have been having a kind of dialogue about this. I don't see how you could take anything Brian said as abusing his power(!!) or slighting SC.
They happen to disagree, and Brian happens to be correct on this score :)

I thought it distasteful how Bolden and others celebrated after he (likely) concussed that Nebraska player. He wasn't celebrating any on-field result of the block, obviously. You should be able to take a player out of the play without trying to take his head off. But I guess that's football.

Eh, Space Coyote is a little too comfortable with Borges's playcalling for my taste. After every game, the pressers would contain reams and reams of thick paragraphs analyzing why he persisted in calling plays that were doomed not to work.

They didn't win the conference to 2010. They shared with two other teams, both better, and then got demolished by Alabama in their bowl game.

Just tell yourself before every season: "I refuse to believe the inevitable hype coming out of Summer/Spring practice."
Remember how our O-line this summer was supposed to be a jump forward from last year's, what with all the highly touted recruits and whatnot?
|41 weeks 6 days ago||Every game this year we go||
Every game this year we go immediately into a passive, rush-four-and-see-what-happens shell, just waiting to be shredded. We gave up crucial 3rd and longs throughout this game because we refused to pressure the QB. Where is the 2011 Mattison, who drew up creative blitzes?
Also, Nebraska has about four plays, one of them being an option pitch. We played this correctly once in the 1st quarter. After that, the RB was always free. How do you not prepare adequately for this basic play?
But this is nothing compared to what you could say about the offense. Overall, this defensive performance should've been enough to win the game.

If that's the case, I'm hoping he'll clarify the difference between a road game and a nuetral-site game for me. I've been having some trouble with it.
Like, was our game against State a home game, since it took place in the state of Michigan, or was it nuetral site, since neither team lives in spartan stadium?

M is not all that good of course, that hasn't changed.
M did not have one bad game; M has had several bad games and has looked weak on both sides of the ball (especially on offense of course). Beyond that, we've been outcoached on the offensive side of the ball throughout the season, and this reached its zenith with Sparty.
If you're content that in year 3 of the Hoke era Michigan State(!) is now the milestone in football for Michigan, then hats off to you I guess.
