Date Title Body
Nets game

I walked through Times Square the other day, so I am judging that to be the quivalent of watching the superbowl.

I'm more excited about the Nets game tonight. Because of a bizarre occurrence at a local Modell's Sporting Goods store, my kids will be ball boys during warmups and we got free tickets to the game (OKC Thunder). Totally looking forward to it, as I am the Indiana game on Sunday!

Go Gophers!

I knew Minnesota would upset somebody, so glad it was Ohio. Man I will be glad when Craft goes. How many years has he been at that school? Seems like forever.  Is he a grad assistant at this point?

Great fun watching with my older boy. The only downer was the knowledge that my family has to move in with my mother in law this weekend for a few weeks due to a construction project in our building. Oh well, at least she gets BTN.

Happy NussBang!

I am really hoping this move works out. I'm still recovering from that Nebraska MBB win, and can't stop seeing the ball ping ponging around the rim and wondering how it didn't go in.

question

This seems like a great hire. I guess I don't understand why Alabama would let him go assuming they wanted to keep him and and also assuming they had the money to do so, which I figure they probably do.

snow

We got about 6 inches of snow here in Brooklyn. But it was really the wind and sub-freezing temperatures that were the problem. Unfortunately, they are expected to continue. Good day to stay inside and wach us trounce Nwestern.

Snow day!

Home with the kids due to schools closing from all the snow here in Brooklyn. Of course, I'm workin'. Got an early bat-mitzvah for one of my nieces tomorrow. Hopefully be able to watch Michigan/NWestern on Sunday. Otherwise just relax, maybe do a little writing.

Personally, 2013 went out on

Personally, 2013 went out on a truly awful note, as expected. Here's h oping for a much better 2014. Go blue!

bye 2013

2013 has been truly awful, both personally (health issues) and fanwise (UM, need I say more?). I will be spending new year's with the wife hopefully seeing Anchorman 2 after an afternoon doctor's visit that will hopefully not be another soul dong punch  but instead provide some hope and solace. May your new year's be a good one. Rock on Blue!

bball/football

I watched the Holy Cross game and was pleasantly surprised at how we were able to hold up without McGary. for the football game, I went to bed at halftime. I think I made the right decision. Here's to a better 2014, in many ways.

heading back tomorrow

I'll be headin' back home to Brooklyn tomorrow after a week with the folks. Will definitely catch the basketball game. The football game....? not so sure especially with the ridiculous time. though would like to catch Shane's first game under center. Very much looking forward to 2013 being over. This year sucked in a lot of ways.

I'm taking the next week and

I'm taking the next week and a half off, taking the family for the first 5 days or so down to maryland to stay with my folks. But first I'll be at Barclays tomorrow night with my 14-year-old watching UM hopefully take care of business against Stanford. That would be a great way to kick off the vacay!

Best wishes

Best wishes to your wife, keep fighting. It's posts like yours that continue to give me hope. I am also fighting cancer and am in a clinical trial for glioblastoma. Stay strong and go blue.

What I'ma doin

I'll be taking my wife out to dinner for her birthday and probably starting edits on my next novel. Also enjoying the first full day of the next month off of chemotherapy. Which means I can finally have a goddamn beer!

BTW, sloths are my favorite animal, so thanks to the OP for the gif!

Boring Bush

I graduated in '91 and drew George Bush The Elder. It was a terrible speech about the Great Society that had absolutely nothing to do with anybody present. This was aside from anybody's political beliefs, it was just an awful graduation speech. Also, half the student body decided to go crazy protesting, which I found pretty disrespectful and ruined things even further.

Barclays tickets

I can't start my own thread, but this is basketball related. I came across this in an Mlive article:

Tickets for Michigan's matchup against Stanford will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, May 17. They can be purchased through Ticketmaster at www.barclayscenter.com or, www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at 800-745-3000

Thought it would be of interest. I know I'm going.

Tonight I'll be putting away

Tonight I'll be putting away laundry with the wife to the taste of vodka-cranberry cocktails (sometimes stuff gets to the right drawer, sometimes it doesn't!). Then this weekend it's little league action and editing my next novel.

I'll be checking out the

I'll be checking out the cherry blossom festival at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens with the family this weekend, with various little league activities before and after.

I will be there with my older

I will be there with my older boy, as well. It's right down the street from me. We went to the WVa game, too. Great experience.

women's bball

I can't start my own thread, but this is basketball related. There's a women's basketball tournament in late november at Barclay's arena in brooklyn featuring Michigan and 3 other teams, Texas Tech, LSU, and Rutgers. Tickets go on sale tomorrow if anyone's interested.

It's straight water right

It's straight water right now, which is funny cuz in the fridge at work there happens to be like 3 cases of beer left over from a company function last week. Of course no one's drinking it.

Tonight, though, it will be Brooklyn dark ale. The wife and I like to have a beer or two as we put away laundry. It makes the children so much more tolerable! Yes, friday night is laundry night at my place, pretty exciting, I know.

I honestly don't know whether I'm going to watch the game on sunday or not. Not sure I want to put myself through that. It's already giving me a bad feeling.

At least I will have more edits to go through on my novel to keep me occupied. :)

It's a crime thriller. Think

It's a crime thriller. Think James Ellroy, though I could never approach that level.

Weekend plans: taking

Weekend plans: taking youngest son to baseball clinic; watching basketball game on sunday, working on edits to first novel

Does MGobackbacking count if there's cable? probably not then

I went to the UM game vs. W. Va in Brooklyn, heard some younger guys a few rows up talking about MGoBlog and the rampant discussion at the time over whether we would get Treadwell and Green. I just smiled to myself.

Favorite grilled cheese variants? Man, I can't remember the last time I had a grilled cheese. Now I wants one!

Very glad to hear Horford

Very glad to hear Horford didn't tear something. He looked like he was in major pain when he came off. I was sitting not far from bacon guy, he was hysterical. There was a loud WVa presence there, also their band! We did not have ours, which is too bad. Not sure if they usually travel to these things, but whatever.

I'm on the corner of 8th Ave.

I'm on the corner of 8th Ave. and Carroll.

I live just a 20-minute walk

I live just a 20-minute walk away. I'm bringing my older boy (he's 13) for his first live ball game. We'll see if he makes it through the whole thing or not. Regardless, I will be there for the duration.

I'm psyched. Will be my first

I'm psyched. Will be my first time in the new arena after having watched its construction over the past several years.

Played soccer through high

Played soccer through high school, pulled a rare double my sophomore year, won state championships for my high school and club teams. Then my senior year lost both state title games. Played with a couple high school all americans, one guy on my club team who went on to MLS as both a player and coach. Walked on and played with the UM soccer team my freshman year (back before it was a varsity sport) until I blew out my knee. then decided I had more important things to do, like drinking.

No one was more disappointed

No one was more disappointed in the end of BSG than me. Great series right up until the last hour which then went pfhsssst! However, this eased my pain:

I read that in the paper when

I read that in the paper when it came out. Aside from the incredible disconnect from normal everyday  people, it was an interesting portrait of a grown man with all the resources and time in the world and yet completely lost and at his wits end with what to do with himself.

Thanks for the shout out.

Thanks for the shout out. Glad I could contribute something. I have to say I'm pretty excited about the game. I've been watching the arena progress since it was just a gaping hole in the ground (and it stayed that way for quite a while). I"m not even sure I realized the tickets are for a double-header. I think the other game is Fordham and somebody, not that it matters. My seats are in the floor section in one of the corners (basically just outside the real expensive ones). I live just a 15-min walk away, so don't even have to take the subway, which, BTW, I would avoid at all costs since I can't imagine what it would be like going to a game. It's a zoo on those lines even when nothing special is going on. Hope to see lots of UM fans there!

I can't make my own threads,

I can't make my own threads, so I posted this link on another basketball-related thread a few days after they went on sale, but it was pretty far down and I'm sure nobody saw it. Anyways, here it is again:

My tickets for the December

My tickets for the December UM vs. WVa game arrived within hours of this announcement. Fortunately, it is not bittersweet. Just sweet.

That was my sophomore year, I

That was my sophomore year, I stole a traffic sign post along with some buddies of mine. Pretty tame all and all. The people jumping on the awnings were real lucky nobody got hurt bad. It was obvious to most onlookers some of those structures were going down.

Brooklyn Hoops

I can't start my own thread, so I just thought I'd post this on a basketball related thread to be helpful. Tickets for the Brooklyn Hoops Winter Festival on Dec. 15 featuring Michigan vs. W. Virginia went on sale a couple days ago. Here's the link for anybody who wants to buy some. I didn't see this announcement anywhere, so if everybody already knows this, then sorry for being redundant:

It was a terrible,

It was a terrible, uninspiring speech. Just because it was from the president doesn't mean it didn't suck.

Old Bush

My year, '91, was pretty bad. We had George Bush The Elder, who gave a speech based on "The Great Society" which was not even remotely relevant to anybody sitting in the audience. Then right afterward he had a heart attack and went to Bethesda Naval Hospital for treatment. All his speech did was basically give the student protesters a last chance to be obnoxious, which wasn't terribly impressive either. This was especially frustrating since the rumor going around was that we could've had James Earl Jones, which would've been cool. I mean, who would've cared what he said? Just the voice! [Insert deep voice] This Is U of M {instead of CNN}
