The QB talent, frankly, is underwhelming. I respect the accomplishments of C. Williams, Daniels and Maye but none of them are can't-miss prospects.
Similarly, you don't have five monster non-QB talents that are clearly top 5 guys that would push JJ out of that range. I would definitely have MHJ up there, but beyond that, guys are fungible.
I don't have any recommendations because I generally don't buy team gear, but I was certainly underwhelmed by my recent Fanatics experience. Was enticed to look at championship gear by an ad touting a big sale. Checked it out. Decided on a T shirt, was marked way down from a patently ridiculous price to a vaguely tolerable price. Started the checkout process and by the time they added shipping, a handling fee (seriously? A handling fee? In 2024?) and lord knows what else they still wanted forty-odd dollars for a simple T shirt. As a result I am still championship gearless because eff that.
I'd get the MGoShirt but Underground doesn't do tall sizes afaik.
I'd put approximately zero weight on his freshman stats. In part because freshman, in part because of team-wide dysfunction, in part because stats in garbage time are frequently terrible - I mean the game's over so why not chuck up that off balance 30 footer?
That's not the same as saying I think he's going to be great, or even a contributor. Dunno. Useful data on that subject is 404 file not found. But he's a reasonable lottery ticket to hold onto and let's see how much better he gets after an offseason. I wouldn't bet against him being a 3rd/4th guard on the back end of the rotation next season and an actual playable B1G-caliber SG when he's a junior or senior.
Why is it crazy? The Michigan approach isn’t cash on the table up front.
Even if Michigan had data to support $50 million in earning potential if he’s all that and the best presentation in the world, it wouldn’t be a surprise at all for a kid to go somewhere else for a $3M per year 3 year guaranteed deal (or whatever the real numbers are) with cash up front and the potential to only earn, say $30 million if he’s good.
personally I am more than fine with Michigan’s approach but it won’t get you all the starzzz
I expect the number of players hitting the portal to continue to increase. Not all of them will leave, but in the present environment if you're good enough that your program will take you back if you decide to stay you're almost cheating yourself if you don't put your name in the portal and find out what's out there in terms of NIL and/or opportunities to play for one of the truly elite programs.
It's a sad reality that Michigan isn't one of those truly elite programs, at least not yet, but I still very much believe that KBA has the program on the right track.
Hypothetically speaking, all of them. I mean, why bother looking carefully at whether anybody is actually IN the portal or is reasonably likely to go into the portal or could probably get into Michigan or is demonstrably better than our existing QB options when we can just throw names (and infinite imaginary dollars) around?
Let's use Jack Tuttle as the baseline. So for the program to (logically) be interested, your hypothetical transfer QB has to be better than Jack Tuttle, who was a four star prospect and started some at Indiana which at least in theory is a P5 school. Does that rule out nearly all uptransfers? Maybe not if you find someone who was lights out, but dunno who that would be at this point. Minnesota grabbed a guy who was great at New Hampshire. New Hampshire! Maybe you can tamper and get a guy from North Dakota State or something. Would that make the fanbase happy? Who knows?
Ah, screw it. There is only one correct answer: Arch Manning. Because five star. There you go, QB issues solved.
YES.
(Also: That's way too many words, if this weren't such a high-class board the appropriate internet answer would be: Your mom.)
All basketball coaches who wander onto the court during play should be dragon-punched out of the arena, so we are team Weatherspoon all the way.
This is a particular pet peeve of mine. If I were a ref, I'd warn both coaches before the game and the minute either one steps onto the court during live action, boom, instant tech. And if they bitch about it, second tech, bye, see ya.
We might not see more than five minutes of Tom Izzo or Shaka Smart ever again.
It wouldn't be the offseason without a bunch of concern trolling.
It's freaking April. There is the rest of spring ball, summer workouts and all of fall camp for things to fall into place. We know that the defense is going to be dominant. It's no shock that it's way ahead of an offense that's replacing QB, RB1, five OL, TE1a, WR1 and WR2.
Are there people who expect more out of Essegian than being JAS with maybe a little upside if he's healthy? Even if he's a defensive liability there is absolutely a limited minutes role for a guy who can shoot it. I don't think anyone expects him to be a 30 minute player.
Similarly, I wouldn't expect too much out of GW3 if he decided to come back. He's a bench/development piece at this point, maybe in a year or two he'll be a rotation guy.
I watched pieces of two or three of their games and agree that they're fun to watch. One of the better passing teams you're going to see and they sure found a lot of open shots. It was impressive.
Seems like there should be a rule that once a Bits post puts chances at 0% (McDaniel and Anderson) we ought to be able to move on. But of course that won't happen.
I wonder how many of those evaluators work for QB-needy organizations that would benefit from deflation of JJ's draft stock. What a load of crap. It's all a game and you throw in the desire for clicks and you get this garbage.
And it's especially grating for anyone to suggest that any of Harbaugh's praise for JJ is "false". What has he said that could possibly be false? He hasn't claimed that JJ can bring peace to the Middle East or is an NFL-caliber punter or that he once knocked out Chuck Norris. He believes JJ is a talent, a winner, a starting NFL QB and he's got data to back him up.
Next year's roster: Jace Howard, Will Tschetter, Grit McGritstein, Dirt McGurt, Heywood Jablowme, Yam Webb, LeBron's other kid no not that one, James Chitwood IV, Bugs Bunny and five walkons.
If either Anderson or May decided to go in another direction I'm perfectly fine with it. Things change, re-evaluate and make a fresh decision as to what's best for you.
Craig was directly responsible for the Spanish Inquisition, the fall of Constantinople in 1453 and going way back, the defeat of the Danes at Ashdown in 871. It's all Craig's fault. He's probably also on the hook for the resurgence of the Michigan State hockey program, Caleb Downs transferring to Ohio State and the continued existence of Notre Dame as a functional entity.
(I don't speak for OP but I don't think it was intended to be a hate post).

I sure hope someone is collecting all the QB receipts here.
There will be more to collect after the Spring Game, I'm sure.
Not a five star QB, do not want
/s
Yeah but it made for a great line in a Stuffing the Passer video.
Boom huel’d
I'm not sure which is harder to understand, English or NCAAese
At least there is google translate for English.
Saw that Holtz signed a deal with the Kalamazoo Wings, nice to see him get a chance.
In this particular draft, yes.

Good news, plenty of parking available this weekend in downtown Detroit!
I would give this many upvotes if I could. Brilliant.

What to do about Jace?
Easy.
LET JACE COOK!

I actively avoided paying attention to the OJ Trial and in retrospect I feel great about that decision.
I'm the Associate Head Coach for Chipotle Fetching, if that answers your question.

I'm not a doctor but if I were I would prescribe you a truckload of Xanax if you're full on panicked about Michigan WBB players entering the portal.

Didn’t leave W MI so just got the mostality. Much like the last one it was kinda neat for a minute and then back to work.
people who refer to chocolate as "chokky".
The fear of the unknown at the QB position is strong amongst the mgocommunity. It will be fine.
Tell 'em we'll even rebrand as Florida Arctic University so they can keep using their FAU gear.
But why would Underwood pass up the opportunity to spend up to five years with Brian Kelly? Some things are worth more than money.

All portal ins are good, all portal outs are kthxbyewhatever.

More Pos. More Bang. More SMASH. LFG!

Coach putting in work. You love to see it.
Someone needs to tel this Davis Moseley character to crystallize his ballz, 247 style.
I watched pieces of two or three of their games and agree that they're fun to watch. One of the better passing teams you're going to see and they sure found a lot of open shots. It was impressive.
Thank you Dug, good luck in the B12.

Like the sound of this. A solid defensive mind, strong recruiter and P5 head coaching experience? Fantastic.
Love to see what KBA's got cooking. These croots can ball.
Dusty, go get ya boi
I think MHJ will go in the top 4, so I don't think he's going to end up being an option.
If someone wants to trade up to take the 4th QB, Harbaugh probably snap accepts. Move down
If he stays there, I think it'll be an OT, probably Alt.
I haven't seen the FAU center's tape but I think Wolf could definitely play the 4.
I can't say that I have ever spent $150 on a book, but if I were going to this would probably be it.
Sure, why not.

I don't think it's possible for the Illini to lose NOW.
You'll have to wait until Saturday, a little after 8:00 pm.
I need to have words with whoever scheduled a 4:00 pm meeting for me.
