No! If I could, I would buy his ticket back, drive his moving van, or even carry Jim Harbaugh to Ann Arbor on my shoulders.
|1 hour 3 min ago||I am not saying don't||
I am not saying don't consider him, but let's not set ourselves up for failure by making getting Harbaugh the measure of a successful search.
|3 hours 8 min ago||This is just setting Michigan||
This is just setting Michigan up for failure. There are plenty of good coaches who are not Harbaughs, who have never coached at Michigan, who do not have relatives who coached or played at Michigan, and/or who have never even rooted for Michigan. This obsession over Harbaugh, while understandable, is not healthy.

That sure does sound like Sparty-level candlepower in conflating correlation and causation so thoroughly.
|5 hours 1 min ago||The Utah game showed that||
The Utah game showed that Michigan is on the path to what, at the beginning of the season, seemed to be the worst case scenario. But it may actual be worse than that. Michigan looks like a team that will struggle to make the Heart of Dallas Bowl, and by that I mean if they improve on several fronts they will make the Heart of Dallas Bowl. That is difficult to accept, with a talented roster, two outstanding coordinators, and a head coach with three years plus under his belt. All of this is exacerbated by a series of moves that, at the same time, gouge season ticket holders and make our beloved univeristy look like McMichigan.
In other words, it's a perfect storm.

He thinks that if he appeases the corporate goliaths (Kraft, Coke) he can ignore (or even antagonize!) the alumni and fanbase. He's wrong.
|19 hours 13 min ago||You are right to note that||
You are right to note that much depends on the intentions of (former faculty senate leader) Schlissel. Will he use Brandon's ouster as an opportunity to downsize the football program more generally?
I have been operating under the assumption that, for now, the enemy of your enemy is your friend.
|19 hours 46 min ago||Schlissel is the x-factor. I||
Schlissel is the x-factor. I think two things are true, which work against each other here. One, Schlissel is a new president, and does not want to intitiate (or even facilitate, absent a clear mandate from the Regents) a major change early in his tenure, before he has his footing. Two, Schlissel detests guys like Brandon, and probably even Brandon himself; Brandon grew up giving guys like future-faculty-senate Schlissel noogies, and I don't think he's sorry for it either.
Whether Schlissel perceives this to be a crisis, or merely discontent among the fanbase/rabble/alumni, will drive how he reacts in my opinion.
|19 hours 53 min ago||There is certainly internal||
There is certainly internal logic to what is written there--how can Brandon, who is himself on thin ice, be trusted to conduct a coaching search? And I think this is the change the program, and University, need. Both of the ADs named make sense, and would be excellent choices. All of which is to say: it's too good to be true, unfortunately.
|20 hours 1 min ago||I don't think anyone in the||
I don't think anyone in the administration is burning the midnight oil on the future of Brandon, Hoke, or the football program. The truth of the matter is that even the causual poster on this board cares 10X more than anyone in the administration (or the Regents, for that matter) about Michigan football.

I've lived in California for ten years, and with all due respect to her, I can't.
|21 hours 28 min ago||Right, I have been ranting||
Right, I have been ranting about this all afternoon (Pacific time). How did Stoogies like Brandon and Stapleton come to have such sway? Stapleton is trying to deflect criticism of the program by turning it into a kulturkampf against outsiders. The delusion and insularity are like the French aristrocracy before the revolution...

I dunno. The Internets live forever, but have a short memory. It certainly FEELS worse than after the '07 Appalachian State game, but remember that social media was in its relative infancy then.
|21 hours 41 min ago||Seriously, he should. He||
Seriously, he should. He would have great grassroots support. We would need to work on diversifying his public works profile--most of the Regents have significant public service connections, even if the experience is largely honorary.
If the Call Sam guy can get elected, Brian can get elected.
|21 hours 48 min ago||He sure did not stay at||
He sure did not stay at Stanford too long, if that was indeed his 'dream' job. I see him as an NFL guy for life. For what it's worth the chatter at fancy UofM Bay Area fundraising events has always been that Harbaugh's wife does not want to leave California.

|1 day 5 min ago||From what I recall of that||
From what I recall of that 2008 game, Michigan was gifted around 21 points from Utah turnovers. None of the score 'drives' started from Michigan's side of the 50 yard line. And Sheridan looked worse than any Michigan QB I have ever seen, with the possible exception of Bellomy in 2012 at Nebraska. Come to think of it, it was a miracle Michigan scored 23 (and was within a 2 pt conversion of tying).

You would also want to know the performance of (a) the stock market and (b) other firms in the industry, which I think would show similar improvements over the 2010-2014 time frame.
|1 day 48 min ago||This seems legit. Sorry for||
This seems legit. Sorry for doubting you OP. Giving tickets to students is a nice gesture, IMO. Coupling it with a lame corporate tie-in squanders that good will, and probably then some.
|1 day 56 min ago||At least of couple of posts||
At least of couple of posts appear to support your OP. Is this limited to students, and available at only at university-owned stores? Only Dave Brandon could make a ticket giveaway to students appear crass, what with the strings attached (i.e., you have to purchase Coke products). Maybe we should be thankful that the promotions were not at Domino's...?

I have stopped drinking while watching the games. Arguably a more gruesome deprivation, but necessary in my case.
|1 day 2 hours ago||Yes, and as such the red pill||
Yes, and as such the red pill is taken to promise a 'harsh reality,' and therein lies the dilemma: my whole life, I've taken the (go) BLUE pill.
|1 day 2 hours ago||This is correct. Not only is||
This is correct. Not only is it economically infeasible to undercut four or five days of ticket sales by this "promotion," when tickets on the Athletic Department's website are selling for $70, but contextual clues from the picture suggest this is a joke: (1) the picture appears to be taken on counter at a random party store; (2) a party store would not pull off something like this, as it may be restricted from doing so under any number of theories, which brings me to (3) the advert, likely created with a color printer in Columbus, does not identify who, exactly, is sponsoring this promotion. If Coke was doing it, that would be explicit.

I agree. And Rodriguez is cut ZERO slack for having similar transitional issues.
My fear is that there are many Stapeltons out there (just not on this board), and they occupy powerful positions in and around the University of Michigan.

I am afraid this view (the "culture fit") is rather firmly entrenched among the Regents and vocal boosters. The truth of the matter, and it's ugly, is that these people would rather listen to someone tell them how great and presitigous Michigan is. It's passive-aggressive self-flattery, bordering on the delusional.

When you have won like Spurrier you can lay it on thick. When Rodriguez pulled similar schtick he came accross as combative.

Here is more insight into the thinking at Fort Hoke.
Foster is spot on. Pretty sad that in order to defend the current administration, Stapleton (a Michigan booster and EMU regent) attacks the "culture" of the Rodriguez program. Four years into the Hoke era, his record speaks for itself.
But what really comes through are the comments related to how Hoke supposedly understands the culture at Michigan. I bet you a number of the U of M Regents look at it the same way.
