That flat out sucked. My M loyalties by far outstrip my Niners rooting interest. But there is no redeeming edge to that loss. It just hurts Harbaugh's legacy. Better that he went out a winner.

Sonofa.... This is exactly how the Niners season has gone. Blown leads on fluke plays.

It's about control. The GM wants job security. The CEO Jed York wants credibility, and wants to be treated like he's in charge. Sadly for Niners fans, York is a thirty something stoogie whose family owns the team, and is less qualified than anyone I the front office to make football decisions.

I am sure Hackett has had other candidates vetted and is prepared to move forward. Really we are exactly where we have always been: it is Harbaugh's decision whether to stay in the NFL or coach Michigan, and he has not made it yet.

Yes! He is much worse. He is not a pundit. He has no credibility or industry relationships. And he is not accountable to anyone.

|2 days 20 hours ago||Right, but that's exactly my||
Right, but that's exactly my point. Why is college football king in SEC country? Because in places like Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, and Florida (outside Miami) there either are not NFL teams, or they are not very good. The national media has a heavy east coast slant (where NFL rulez), and the west coast media has an NFL slant.
What is lost on a lot of people on this board is that for Harbaugh to come to Michigan would be practically unheard of. Seth posted a very good survey of NFL coaches who went back to college, and I think Wannstadt was really the only guy who left the NFL to go back to his alma mater. But he was not a hot prospect, and had no NFL options. If Harbaugh does come, it would really speak to just how special the University of Michigan is. I don't care if the rest of the country, or the media, doesn't understand. It is only important, for these purposes, that Jim Harbaugh does.

I think the prevailing view is that Harbaugh is an NFL guy, and the League is the pinnacle of the sport. Since the Jordan Bulls disbanded, the NFL is the dominant form of sporting entertainment.

So I thought about this some more, and maybe it is actually good news. Here is what ocurred to me. The offer Michigan made Jim Harbaugh would make him not only the highest paid college coach, but NFL coach as well. It appears calculated to beat Payton, currently the highest paid guy, who makes $8 million. Michigan could have leaked this, as part of a "shock and awe" compaign to scuttle any potential trade.

Surely, even an economics professor at Webster University should know that you do not factor in variables such as JH's brother winning the Super Bowl into an economic analysis. Plus, JH would have staff to help him with recruiting and compliance; the costs case is overblown. The primary tasks he ascribes to NFL head coaches (reviewing tape) are actually done by assistants.

We'll have to wait at least eleven days to know a response. Knowing Jim Harbaugh, he is going to coach the last two games before he determines anything.
|4 days 2 hours ago||No, it's not necessarily a||
No, it's not necessarily a bad sign that it was leaked. Here is my take.
You all are losing sight of what Harbaugh has told his team and the media: there is still a lot to play for in this season. Harbaugh is not the type of guy to say that, and then walk out on his team. He really means shit like that, and he will finish the season focused on that goal. He is going to finish the year, and ONLY THEN is he is going to make a decision.
It is not likely that either he or Michigan leaked this. I would bet that someone in the 49ers caught wind of it and leaked it. Part of their attempt to put together a trade. The 49ers are in worse shape if they wait until 12/28 to try to do a deal; only the 49ers benefit from the information being out, as potential trade counterparts can factor it in to deliberations.
