it's effective but also annoying and I'd rather use up the few annoyances we allocate to sell sponsorship to someone who might offer you a service or good you really want. HTTV is basically the year's fundraiser. And shirts.

That's the base ad for UGP. And you'll see deals on there all the time for MGoStore stuff we're trying to unload. You'll also find an attorney who's an expert on Ann Arbor tickets, and a hotel in downtown Ann Arbor that's owned by the son of a former Michigan AD and the recruits all stay when they're on official visits until Harbaugh and Drevno come to the lobby to collect them. And deals on parking. And a ticket exchange where you can sell to fellow readers. And the HTTV counter. And free tickets to see the new Ann Arbor soccer team.

|3 hours 34 min ago||Go back to the beginning of||
Go back to the beginning of man and you'll find his homo erectus parents talking about how entitled the little kids with the big heads are these days. It's not good enough to hunt an animal with a hand-axe, they gotta go around drawing their adventures on walls. No accountability! Me! Me! Me!
Every generation produces entitlted shits. They're entitled shits as kids, and when they're older they complain about how kids these days are entitled selfish shits. When you study history one thing that becomes apparent is that people don't change--just their customs and circumstances and technology do.
My grandpa and my dad had a rift that lasted from the end of high school until I was born because my grandpa, who'd grown up in the Depression and fought way more than his fair share of WWII, thought my dad was being an entitled brat by not wanting to go to Vietnam. There's one clear-cut example of when one generation really did get a shittier end of the stick than the one after them, and still: pointing it out did zero good and ultimately hurt everything. And since the current elder generation are those same Baby Boomers who got it better than any generation in history, now is as good a time as any to put that stupid sentiment to bed.

I only ever cared about one pair of shoes: Reebok Blacktops (in Bulls colors even though i wasn't a Bulls fan) circa 1991-'92. They were great but got overshadowed immediately when Pumps came out of nowhere and that become the thing. But those blacktops were the most comfortable pair of shoes I ever owned. Probably subconsciously put off my growth spurt to make sure I could wear them out.

Seriously thank you guys! Before HTTV let me write about Michigan football for a living I used to help companies improve their environmental footprint while saving money and passing those savings on to their consumers. THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THAT JOB!

For our part I'd ask that you just turn off AdBlock for our site. We keep the crap ads away from you, and our advertisers are guys often the guys trying to reach you directly with something you'd value. Like if you're in Ann Arbor or just east of there you'll be getting MichiganLawGrad.com ads right now. This is a dude who reads this site and is an expert at dealing with the b.s. tickets they hand out like candy on Gamedays.
If you do insist on adblock just use Beveled Guilt and include a message that you felt guilty about blocking the ads.
Something like the above won't help us very much because their algorithyms are all off. We produce thoughtful longform content--reading an entire Upon Further Review would get us the same amount of pageviews as Bleacher Report gets for every slide of a slideshow top 10 they put together in 3 minutes. Most sites are calibrated to maximize ad impressions; ours is calibrated to be most enjoyable for the reader while still allowing us to make a living.

We don't carry them in the warehouse so it's about what I have in my personal inventory. That is:
Before that HTTV was put out by the now-defunct Maple Street Press. The last one they wouldn't even call HTTV (and they never paid us for it...stringing us along for months before they could declare bankruptcy). I only have my personal copies of these since I wasn't the publisher--I just copyedited the PDFs back then. But you can always try ebay or whatever. The first one was 2007.
Since I am TERRIBLE at getting to the post office in a timely fashion (it's not even that far from me--I just can't ever get out of the house during business hours), I don't bother putting the back issues on sale. But if you're going to be at an MGoEvent or if you ever want to come by (14 mile and Northwestern in West Bloomfield) I'm happy to do a hand-to-hand cash exchange.

|1 week 3 hours ago||They didn't run much read||
They didn't run much read option in 2011. They did run an inverted veer option, but not correctly, and it didn't really have the option component--they would block the end the real play is supposed to option, and left a linebacker unblocked for Denard to deal with. It worked well because "Denard: I need you to dodge this totally unblocked guy!" actually worked as an offense.
The zone read was in the offense under Gardner, but--and forgive me if this is just reading too much into things--I remember a lot of the time he checked into that, so I imagine it wasn't Borges's intent to call those so often.
Hindsight doesn't matter. In January 2011 the clear move was to retain Magee or if that wasn't doable, retain the offense, which was No. 2 in the country despite every key member of it having SOPHOMORE eligibility or less.

Borges was a square peg from the get-go. The media always say nice things about the new guy, and we didn't think he would get as bad as he did, but Borges was an adequate OC by 1990s Michigan standards. Like on his way in I'd have said he fits between Stan Parrish and Terry Malone.
But Hoke shouldn't have hired his old buddy nor tried to change the offense. He had two more years of Denard and two of Devin Gardner after that. All he had to do was retain Calvin Magee and let him run the offense. We didn't realize it at the time but Cal said he would have stayed if asked. He loved the players they'd recruited, and wanted to be a head coach one day. And anyone who argues that Magee wouldn't have gotten along with the new staff doesn't know Cal Magee.

Zepplin IV on tape, then rebought it a month later on CD.
The CD run was with a bunch of Harmony House gift certificates I got for my 12th birthday (so December 1991). I got IV, Pocket Full of Kryptonite, and Blood Sugar Sex Magik on that trip, the latter two because the girl at the store recommended them as the best new things that year. The gift certificates paid for about 2 1/2 of those.
My friends gave me shit for not getting Nevermind, so we pooled our lunch money (mostly mine) a week or two later to get that and a pack of blank casettes so we could all get a copy.
