Definitely 15 practices and film work....

would be a bigger benefit IMO. The more times the QB runs that read option the better he will get at deciding to keep or pitch the ball. I think every team has a "tell" and tendencies and the underclassmen could benefit from studying film instead of watching film.

Mensa called....

and your membership card is ready to be picked up genius. The defense has been questionable this year? You don't say.

Trailing at the half

From 2005 - 2007 at WVU R-Rod only trailed at the half in 5 games and the largest deficit was 17 points in 05' vs. Louisville which they conversely came back to win.
This year alone he has trailed in 6 games at the half and the largest deficit at the half was PSU at 9 points.

Motivation

Maybe I didn't phrase this correctly. Would there more motivation to beat OSU and finish say 7-6 or is there more motivation to finish 6-6, beat OSU, and go to a bowl?

Pass rush...

I think the D will be able to control their running game but more importantly the D-line needs to get penetration to flush Pryor to the outside towards BG or Roh and put pressure on him so that he can't throw the deep ball. His last 5 games a third of his completions were to the same receiver (Posey)and his completion percentage is under 50%. Keep Warren glued to Posey and make Pryor throw the underneath passes and that will give us a chance to be competitive.

Rub routes.....

I notice a lot of other teams using the pick or rub routes against our secondary. With some of our undersized receivers I think this would be a benefit to get someone open so that you didn't have to out muscle a bigger CB or OLB for position. Also I don't recall seeing any fade rates to the corner with Matthews as we've seen in years past with Edwards or anyone else. I think you have to give him a chance to make a play when you are that close to the goal line.

Need some help...

I liked most of the blitz packages the D ran on Saturday and I would like to see more of them to help out the decimated secondary. I would also like to see someone in the secondary actually break up a pass instead of making the tackle after the reception all of the time. With the exception of the front 4 everyone else seems to react rather than attack. Our secondary has a bad habit of making mundane QB's look like Heisman hopefuls. Go back to the gameplan they ran again Tebow in the Capital One bowl and blitz, blitz, blitz.

Plus I cringe at the thought of Pryor this weeking taking the snap out of the shotgun and taking 2 steps forward then stopping and lobbing passes all day over the CB and S. They definitely need to stay home and keep their eyes on the receiver and out of the backfield.

Put me in coach....

I'm ready to play..today.
Look at me, I can be a safety.

Point taken...

I just cannot imagine a recruit being influenced by anything you or I type of this blog. I would certainly hope their opinion of UM and the coaching staff would be influenced more by recruiting trips and campus visits rather than a blog entry. Maybe I have underestimated the affect of some of these posts on the psyche of a 17 or 18 year old?

If they're offended.....

by any material on this blog can you imagine the mental state they would be in after Barwis was done with them?

Pryor's last 5 games

I think as weak as the secondary has been this year you still have to make Pryor throw the ball. The past 5 games he's completed just 48% compared with 58% for his first 5 games. Also half of his 54 pass completions over the past 5 games were to the same receiver (Posey) so it would appear there is a trend forming over the second half of their season.

You can't be serious???

I would rather stay home than take the ugly girl to the dance just to go. Regardless of what happened last year you have to do better than Deleware St.

Totally Agree....

You have to be naive to think that the outcome would be the exact same if USC had to travel 2000 miles to Happy Valley in January with the east coast time difference. I'm positive that it has to be harder to throw a tight spiral when it's 20 degrees and the ball is wet from the snow plus you can't exactly utilize your 4.4 speed down the field. These aren't excuses just realities.
Every single week this season the NFL commentators constantly remark how poorly the west coast teams play when they have to travel to the east coast however no one ever mentions this in the during college bowl season? They're so eager to pile on the Big 10 that they just keep using the same dog and pony show material that they used the previous year.
USC couldn't win in Corvallis in September plus they play in a weak Pac-10 so what gives them the right to play for the national championship?
If some corporate sponsor puts up enough money, trust me teams will show up for that bowl game regardless of where it's at. It's not about the warm weather in January it's all about the money.

Since Nov. 1...

Over the past 3 conference games UM has averaged 200 yards per game rushing and 136 yards passing. The first 4 conference games they only averaged 140 yards rushing and 150 yards passing

Over the past 3 conference games OSU has allowed an average of 164 yards rushing and 180 yards passing. The first 4 conference games they allowed 98 yards rushing and 188 yards passing.

They're only #'s but it appears the UM rushing attack has gotten better and OSU is giving up 66 yards per game more over their last 3 games.

I'm just saying.......

Look what happened when RR inserted Minor into the starting lineup at Happy Valley. PSU wasn't expecting it and he ran for 2 TD and over 100 yards. UM did something different, the opposition didn't expect it and the offense put up 17 points on the road against a PSU team that will probably go undefeated this year. Not to bad.

Just mix up the play calling and keep the defense guessing what you are going to do. Does anyone think UM is good enough right now lineup and run the ball down the throat of the defense when they know it's coming? They will in time but that time isn't now. We can't compare UM to what WVU did last year unless someone thinks Threet is equal to Pat White? Other teams can be predictable against UM because at this point the UM defense isn't stopping them so they'll continue to run or pass until UM can stop them. I wouldn't consider a 56% 3rd down conversion rate "stopping" the other team.

We all know Threet stares down his receivers and usually throws to the wrong shoulder which stops any momentum the receiver has to come back to the ball. Minor isn't quick enough to run outside of the tackles as evidence when he was pulled down from behind on several occassions attempting to run a stretch play to the short side of the field no less. And please don't throw to the FB in double coverage running a wheel route down the sideline when it's 3rd down and you're backed up towards your own goaline. Throw to the receivers you recruit to catch the ball on 3rd down not the guy you recruit to bust facemasks at the line of scrimmage.

I'm just saying that if all of us can make posts to this website with our observations of blatant tendencies of the UM offense don't you think the opposing teams scouts who do this for a living can see the same thing?
