You start with tremendous accountability. Then you move into toughness between the ears. I want to be able to hear learning going on. I haven't heard it in a while. All joking aside this is a problem with no definite solution. The no child left behind act, which I am not too familiar with, seems silly. If a child can't cut it then why continue to push them through. They just don't have what it takes at this given time. In the wild it's survival of the fittest so why not in the classroom? This everyone wins mentality that has been spread out across this country is sickening. Everyone is entitled to greatness and whatever they want and when reality sets in these people turn into whining incoherent pricks. My abilities may not be what yours are and that is something that one should come to grips with at an early age. Hard work can overcome a lot of that and if you find out how to work hard and smart you can do whatever you want. It's the cunningness of the human animal that can do these things. What kinds of changes that could be implemented immediately do you see?
That sounds like a best case scenario in which the child doesn't have birth defects, autism (which is now 1 in 68), or is just a complete asshole even though you've done everything right. I plan on having kids and I agree with your sentiment seeing as how my sister and I have turned out healthy and loving towards our parents but it seems like more of a gamble now than it has been in the past in reference to abnormalities.
From one stance I can see how someone would demonize all of major college athletics and say that they would not want them to exist any longer because of this unfair treatment granted to people who shouldn't even be allowed into a college classroom. It is fairly upsetting to read something like that and know that there are so many young people out there who have no real intellectual ability but because of their athletic abilities they are given such opportunities.
I have those feelings to a degree but mainly I feel like this undercuts our progress as a country and as humans. What good can a washed up college athlete provide when they've been handed everything and now have no critical thinking skills but rather live in a conflicting world with the real because they have been under this false impression that they do have so called "brains". When this false world and real world meet anger will most surely be the initial reaction. Will they ever be able to pull themselves out of this? What a mess.

I don't deny that he stands out amongst his peers but if you look at the societal influences of this country it's easy to see why his peers are the way they are. The reason why I don't view it in the light that most of you do is because it's the way I think and feel along with many of the people I live with and around. If you were to turn off the tv, computer, cell phone, and all other devices sit and meditate you would be astonished at who you would become. I have seen it in others and myself. As a wise man once said, "create your own NPR."
Waiting to see how the team performs against above average compeition is the way I'll do it from now on. Getting lost in the mix that involves recruiting and favorable talk of the team from any and all sources makes it easy to have elevated expectations. The biggest problem I have faced with letting those expectations run around unbridled is the talk from the players. What I've recognized is that just as I will try and motivate myself for anything in my life they will do the same but their message reaches me through these media channels and warps my mind into this place where the team will be this juggernaut through the season and 12-0 will happen. Becoming aware of this cycle has brought me much relief.
I'm trying to understand how one can see Horford as this enlightened being and where this all came to pass. The words he's written are nothing new to those who seek some sort of truth through what others see as the mundane. Although he seems to be in a state that moves more towards reflection and peaceful thought he is but a young man in a country whose values and way of thinking is contradictory to his own and that's probably why all of you see him in this psuedo enlightened framework.
