How would less knowledge make you "more prepared?" Even if you don't apply the information in the books or direction it is still nice to have the additional insight.

Did my job to spread hope and Michigan pride.
Looking forward to the fall!

Yet, what is the purpose of the "University of Michigan?" If it is to provide top notch athletics then we need to stop sending these kids to class. The focus should always remain on education and let those talented athletes evaluate whether they would rather attend or not.
|1 week 1 day ago||I understand||
I could point out that computer science majors have to take two years of general education courses. I wish I was able to take four years of core courses while in school. A better illustration would be Jahlil Okafor is unable to take courses toward a computer science degree because the university is forcing him to play basketball for a year.
However, the point of the university is to educate not to provide athletic competition. Athletics are a nice distraction and provides an opportunity for individuals to earn scholarships but the reason they are in school is to get an education.
|1 week 1 day ago||I disagree||
I disagree with Brian and while the NCAA may suggest this to trump the NBA policy it is a perfect solution. Why? The individual is present to be a student first and an athlete second.
Freshman year can be a challenging one and therefore allowing the individual to focus mainly on becoming acclimated to university life can prove beneficial. The individual adapts to the new schedule, new challenges, and changes then begins serious athletic competition.
If this truly benefits the NCAA, I do not see how as the individual is still getting their education paid for via the scholarship. Just my two cents, feel free to poke holes in it.

Attrition is apart of every program especially those who go through a huge philosophical shift.
We have had a much worse history of attrition with coaching changes. Thankfully the results worked out in our favor with Bo Schembechler.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||Glad||
Glad he graduated but sad he will be playing college football elsewhere this fall. If this due to a desire to play under a different coach to learn different facets of the game then I wish him well. I hope his decision is not to duck the new "competition" mentality that Coach Harbaugh has brought to the football programs. I am not saying that this is the reason because I do not know Blake; I just hope this isn't the case.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||No doubt||
No doubt the results are historical. Jim Harbaugh has faced and beaten some of the toughest competition in college and the pros. If Harbaugh fails at Michigan then it will an exception to his coaching career.
I don't think any fan of Michigan expects Harbaugh to fail.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||The Michigan Program||
The Michigan Program has never been about hope or a future success. The program has always been a beacon of expectation. The majority of the posts on here conclude that teams have under-performed with the exception of 2008.
Harbaugh is most certainly not selling hope. Dantonio had to deal with the humiliation from Michael Hart's comments and he used it to fuel his passion for success. He needs to be careful not to practice stupidity because we all know the Harbaughs are driven men.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Babcock||
You can't make a man stay that does not want to but Mike Babcock is not at all the reason why Detroit has had playoff woes as of late. The talent just hasn't been there particularly with the defense.
I have not been able to name one consistent offense player on the Wings during the playoffs except for Datsyuk.

Can both be an option? Hard to go wrong unless you are eating at McDonalds.
Whataburger, Five Guys, and In and Out have awesome reputations.
|5 weeks 2 hours ago||Governor||
Doesn't matter who the governor is or what party, no university leader should automatically assume that the state's coffers will be open to them. As much as we throw around the term "state school," our states have little involvement in universities except to grant them money in order to supplement tuition costs.
The problem that universities have is many of their programs and degrees do not pay well enough for the student to pay off their debt in a small period of time. Potential students are now wising up to this fact. I don't want anyone to have a 100k student loan on top of living expenses all the while fighting to earn a job that pays 40-50k. I would advise any student, if your loan can't be paid back in five years then don't borrow the money. Once you are in your late 20s and early 30s you start to take on other debt.
Most of us would agree that tuition costs have been grossly inflated for quite some time. Eventually the bubble will burst which is how I perceive the issue. I think this is only the start of that bubble bursting.
|5 weeks 7 hours ago||Why does it have to be||
Why does it have to be political?
Quite simply when X expenses exceeds Y income then you have to make cuts. If you aren't able the make cuts quickly enough then bankruptcy is your only option.
I forsee many institutions dealing with the same problem in the near future.

I agree Stephen. Good post. You realize this may potentially set off a firestorm though.
I have met far too many people on the internet who think they can put aside basic human decency and dignity because "it's the internet." The excuse is always "they are just kids." A lot of these kids are between the ages of 16-25 and its time that everyone start expecting more from them.

If I tweeted to my child when she is old enough to have twitter then I would hope that it would be seen as communication between us. He also was making it public that he was proud of his daughter. It was completely fine. The issue is with being a celebrity, you open yourself up to all kinds of people and their issues. In some cases it's probably best just to keep the communication private.
|13 weeks 7 hours ago||Louisville vs Michigan||
I cannot watch this game again. So many calls wrong that it is anger intensifying.
The goal tending not called in the first half and the subsequent play that led to an early Burke foul.
Louisville thugging it up in the second half and most of it being let go.
Burke's clean block.
I don't believe in any conspiracy theories about a fixed game, what I do think is 1) The officials allowed Pitino to work them. Anyone watch the tape can see how much is in their ear throughout the game. 2) The Officials called a bad game.

Thank you so much for your blog and the energy you put into it. I, for one, love the amount of content I can get during non-sporting events due to this website.
I didn't post in the failure article because I didn't think it necessary but I did take offense to your emotionally driven conclusion. Sure, you can spin it off as necessary given Brandon's poor handling of the department for four years but sometimes it pays to take the high road.
How does it make an individual look when they are so readily willing to call someone an "asshole?" The other descriptive adjectives only further cemented a negative reaction to your article despite an agreement with the conclusion of Brandon's tenure. I hope you understand why the negative response and based on your quick rebuttal, the negativity toward your article is real.
Brandon's poor decision making, inexperience, and sacrificing long term gain for a short term buck did him in, no question. However, despite mistakes I would not question his desire and motivation to succeed. I don't know the man well enough to make a judgment call on his character and I seriously doubt you do as well.
I won't judge Brandon's character on a number of missteps where quite frankly he was trying to increase revenue. The e-mail in question where he told a fan to find another team wasn't addressed to you, so there is absolutely no reason to personalize it. He may have had a bad day or he may have realized that he was failing as an AD, who knows. I have poorly handled myself on certain days and I hope I am not limited to people judging my character based on that.
Brandon did hire Hoke and everyone is quick to defend Hoke's character. You still have an audience. I don't come here to read cursing, coarse descriptions, and hit pieces. I come here to get quality content on the current events and prestigous history of this proud program. I trust more information like the coaching tidbits and less bilergant aggressiveness toward that which you disagree with. Thank you again for your efforts.
|15 weeks 3 days ago||You are talking about three||
You are talking about three programs all of which have long standing winning traditions. I am not saying that Michigan shouldn't be in that group and maybe that is a goal for Beilein's staff but there are 100 other teams you could list that have down years like we are having.
Quiet possible that Beilein's group is looking at the lack of big guy and recruiting them. I am disappointed about this season as much as anyone but I don't assume our troubles is due to A) Poor recruiting because recent history negates that and B) Other teams are cheating without proof.
|15 weeks 3 days ago||Some holes in your argument||
If Michigan was cheating with big boys then why was Michigan busted and not the big boys?
The problem I have with statements like this is it plays on the idea that we are losers because others are cheaters. This statement derives from a losers mentality. Michigan has recruited at a top level and recent attrition demonstrates this. Trey Burke, Mitch McGary, Nik Staskus, and GRIII could all be playing this year! You read that right! How much different would our team be? In the past two seasons, we have lost five players to the NBA (Hardway Jr included)! How many college basketball programs can claim the same?
Michigan is having a down year partly because of attrition and partly because of issues beyond its control. 1) Mitch McGary busted for smoking pot. 2) Jon Horford transfer. The inclusion of those two players on the roster would have swung several games in Michigan's direction.
Let's stop overreacting on what is essentially a down year after we have enjoyed explosive success. Any type of claim that others are cheating without proof or whining that Michigan can't recruit reeks of entitlement.
Beilein will use this season to train current players and a fresh crop of top talent will be inserted.
|15 weeks 6 days ago||I think students being able||
I think students being able to transfer without sitting out is acceptable. I am not sure why the NCAA has a year waiting period in between transfer for certain cases. Yet, I think it's important to remember (because many seem to have forgotten) that you are committing to a SCHOOL to get a free education and sports is the means in which it happens. Coaching changes happen all around the country all the time, so no student-athlete should be shocked when their coach changes positions. They probably will be disappointed but then again they did commit to the school that could give them the best education, right?
|16 weeks 2 days ago||Tom Brady||
Tom's already a coach. Media has referenced it a couple times and Belichick stated that his gameplans have to be well thoughtout because Tom will question it.
I wonder how much Tom influenced Malcom Butler in watching game film knowing the pick play that Seattle would run and make the interception?
I am not saying Tom would want to be a future coach at Michigan but we all know that Brady has drive, desire to learn, and a love of the game. No one would be surprised if he was a successful coach. I wouldn't be shocked if Tom becomes a great coach simply because people are saying that a great player cannot transition to coaching.

First, I know this situation dives into the political but I know everyone on here to be level headed. I have heart issues and know first hand anyone who lacks that much sleep will die sooner rather than later. I hope if this story is accurate that he gets more sleep and soon.
Outside of that it is so good to see people reach out and care. His fundme project has 66k in funds and he is sure to be able to have a decent vehicle and be able to afford insurance for a decade.
Last, employers pay people a decent wage. I am a free market guy and I argue that people's labor is worth what the market sets but their comes a point where you have to take care of your employees. I say this on this blog because many of you are influential in American life or will be. If something is crippling your business and hindering you from paying people more than make it known and work for change but start paying people more.
I am glad his bosses wife does make sure he has free meals which helps.
One more thing, insurance is a risk pool model to keep individuals from suffering financial hardship. Don't steal cars. Drive safe. Drive alert. Drive sober. And if everyone does this the price will drop. Auto insurance is an extremely competitive industry and if a company can lower your rates they will. My rate is $400 a year for minimal coverage but I do not live anywhere near Detroit.

The treatment that Gordie received is completely ethical. I hope everyone here takes the time to research the difference between adult and embryonic stem cell research. Gordie was given adult stem cell treatment which is without question ethically embraced by everyone who has researched the topic.
Embryonic stem cell research presents ethical challenges. It may not matter in the end as adult stem cell research is currently more promising of the two.

I am not sure why he is getting downvoted so much, he does bring up an interesting point. The National Championship will always be mythical. Yeah, OSU beat Oregon and Alabama but do you know who they didn't beat? TCU!
The problem that is involved is now teams three and four will rely heavily on politicking in order to make it into the CFP. Do you want a team voted in based on their pull in the media and with voters? I personally do not care because I really think the BCS was garbage and this will be even worse. I had no problems with Michigan sharing a national championship with Nebraska.
There is only one reason why a CFP exists and that is for money. It most certainly isn't to help the student athletes nor is it to short out and proclaim an outright national champion. If I am apart of the TCU athletic department, I would claim a national championship. After all they had one loss and got dropped despite winning games decisively.

"Meyer’s an Ohio boy who has never hidden his affinity for the state. After the win, he said 'To bring a national title back to this great state, it’s almost surreal.'”
Do Michigan a big favor Urban and spot them four turnovers while taking it all in. The look on your face will be entirely different against Coach Harbaugh.

|20 weeks 4 hours ago||Anyone who has followed||
For those who have followed Jim Harbaugh's career, you know exactly why he made this statement. Harbaugh would love nothing more than to beat down the "defending national champion" Buckeyes. Remember Bo did that in his first year.
Also, Jim made a statement calling the USC team in 2007 the best in college football. This was before beating them on their home field.
The only thing we as Michigan fans should be concerned about is if the losing against OSU continues. I believe it won't.
