ESPN used "Neither Leaders nor Legends" as their clever SportsCenter headline when recapping all of the B10 blowout losses on New Year's Day, wouldn't changing them after that looked like surrender to the SEC instead of the 90% of fans that hated the names from the beginning? Seems petty, I know, but that's maybe something that someone who okayed "Leaders" and "Legends" would think about.
I don't think the argument is that the situations were handled differently, it's that they were two completely different situations in the first place. The similarities end at the player being a mismatch for the scheme. For Denard, that's the only issue, for Mallett, there were other things at play attracting him elsewhere.
I guess most of you haven't been involved in management or in hiring managers, vice presidents, etc, but it's much different in the business world than in the athletic world.

I know I don't want to hear that Hoke knows "The Victors," but the fanbase that knocked an outside hire and submarined the last guy is probably pretty happy with it. I suppose he's going to go on today about how Hoke already knows his way around the place and where all of his favorite restaurants are and how he's going to go to his old barber again and so much other bullshit that doesn't concern winning. If it shuts up the sweater-wearing, cheese-eating alumni that cut him a check every year, then I'm for it.
There's something to be said however, about pandering to a fanbase that used 3-9! 5-7! as ammo with rhetoric about one's Michigan identity. Moreover, there's something to be said about it working.
He's our coach, but he's not a dictator. He doesn't deserve undying respect and a void of criticism based on his title. Sure, he's entitled to a clean slate at Michigan, but respect is earned on the field, in the classroom, and in the Michigan community. From the first decision he makes as head coach, he's under the microscope.
I can't argue scheme before team one bit because even though I defended RR to the end, 3 wins or less in year one at almost every place he's coached is pretty hard to ignore. With that said, I think the big picture idea when replacing Lloyd was to replace Lloydball with something out of the 21st century for "long term success" and, dare I say, "relevance" after making a name as of late for getting smoked by mobile QBs rather than winning.
Growing pains should have been expected three years ago for the greater good just as they absolutely need to be expected now if we're set on returning to smashing faces with 3 yards and a cloud of such and such.
The real discussion lies in how no one (not even those in position to hire him in 2007) saw that RR's scheme didn't fit at Michigan and his hiring might warrant some patience in order to make it fit from what has turned out to be the least patient fanbase in sports.
Yes. Blaming RR is easy because he's gone, but some of the blame certainly needs to be placed on the AD (pick one or both). Two coaching changes in a 4 year period, especially ones that bring to light serious personnel discrepancies with regard to "the system" are much more at fault as far as transfers are concerned.

AC1 gets super repetitive to the point where it becomes boring at times. Also, the voice acting is just shy of terrible in both games. Still, the visuals are beautiful and it's worth playing through if you're curious (haven't heard any lukewarm reviews, they're either really good or really bad).

True, but the IOC should probably run a tighter ship in terms of forged documentation. I guess there's no easy way to thwart forgery considering every country has different documentation policies with wildly varying "protections" against counterfeiting, but it's still a bit disheartening that it took them a decade to crack this one open.

For the record, I didn't bring this topic here and haven't really voiced my opinion for or against the OP's cause. I merely commented on it like so many others, so our misunderstanding on the issue might end there.
I'm not saying we shouldn't rank the causes we wish to support, as that is what clearly needs to happen if we're going to donate to anyone at all. However, we should also be mindful of our personal hierarchy as just that and avoid introducing personal political beliefs to the discussion in order to influence others (especially on a blog where political discussions are strictly frowned upon).
To me, it seemed inherently negative to call out this cause as less important than another cause (and I realize that Q did not mean it maliciously) when it would have been perfectly sufficient not to comment at all.
So much for that unstoppable force of positivity.
If you don't feel the need to donate, then don't, but you don't need to get political about it and belittle a good cause because you think that there are better ones. This kid's situation, the ones you bring up, and countless others throughout the world are horrible and could use help. It's when people start to rank these causes and push their personal hierarchy upon others that the selfless act of helping people takes a shockingly negative turn.

They take their high school football seriously in Texas. In some places, it's like pulling teeth to get new turf/floors installed because the 50 year old relics in place are in disrepair and hurting the kids. UConn is a bit of an exception with the whole reopening, new-look Big House situation, but I agree that it's still lose-lose. The thing about being Michigan though, even rebuilding, defensively anemic Michigan, is that a lot of games are lose-lose, even if they're great matchups on paper.
Hopefully, we just stomp a friggin' hole in UConn and they go on to run the table, as would have been the case with Utah had we managed to eke out another 3 points. A lose-lose situation can sometimes morph itself into a quality win over the course of the season.
