I think it's safe to say that

I think it's safe to say that this reuniting the U-M family thing was a bit of an exaggeration.

And by "a bit of an exaggeration" I mean "a bunch of hooey." The season can't start soon enough.

A spring game that people go

A spring game that people go to.

There's something I can get

There's something I can get behind.

Despite the 90% disapproval rate of "Leaders" and "Legends," did Delaney and Co. decide to keep them before or after the B10 took the beating it did in its respective bowls, making the division names painfully ironic?

ESPN used "Neither Leaders nor Legends" as their clever SportsCenter headline when recapping all of the B10 blowout losses on New Year's Day, wouldn't changing them after that looked like surrender to the SEC instead of the 90% of fans that hated the names from the beginning? Seems petty, I know, but that's maybe something that someone who okayed "Leaders" and "Legends" would think about.

Shit, I'd prefer "Reginald"

Shit, I'd prefer "Reginald" and "VelJohnson."

Take that up with the man who said it 50 times in his press conference yesterday.

I don't think the argument is

I don't think the argument is that the situations were handled differently, it's that they were two completely different situations in the first place. The similarities end at the player being a mismatch for the scheme. For Denard, that's the only issue, for Mallett, there were other things at play attracting him elsewhere.

Where do I begin...?

Even if you don't like the hire, you've got to appreciate the bricks of Fort Schembechler being relaid.

I guess most of you haven't

I guess most of you haven't been involved in management or in hiring managers, vice presidents, etc, but it's much different in the business world than in the athletic world.

How's it going up there on your high horse, Mr. President? Just cut the Athletic Dept. their annual check and talk down to the folks on mlive.

New banner? Contest. Nothing

New banner? Contest. Nothing keeps us occupied better than a contest. I suggest a double elimination playoff tournament the likes of which you'll never see in college football.

New slogan? May I suggest, "The Audacity of Hoke"?

He's very cultured. I bet

He's very cultured. I bet that in order to talk with him in his office, you first need to make up a word and then recite its definition.

I'll support Hoke as long as

I'll support Hoke as long as he does not make the same mistakes as RR - firing virtually the entire coaching staff...

Didn't DB already see to that one?

I know I don't want to hear

I know I don't want to hear that Hoke knows "The Victors," but the fanbase that knocked an outside hire and submarined the last guy is probably pretty happy with it. I suppose he's going to go on today about how Hoke already knows his way around the place and where all of his favorite restaurants are and how he's going to go to his old barber again and so much other bullshit that doesn't concern winning. If it shuts up the sweater-wearing, cheese-eating alumni that cut him a check every year, then I'm for it.

There's something to be said however, about pandering to a fanbase that used 3-9! 5-7! as ammo with rhetoric about one's Michigan identity. Moreover, there's something to be said about it working.

How about "not grieving at

How about "not grieving at all"?

Disagree.

He's our coach,

Disagree.

He's our coach, but he's not a dictator. He doesn't deserve undying respect and a void of criticism based on his title. Sure, he's entitled to a clean slate at Michigan, but respect is earned on the field, in the classroom, and in the Michigan community. From the first decision he makes as head coach, he's under the microscope.

Maybe, but Mallett wasn't a

Maybe, but Mallett wasn't a lock to stay even if the coaching change never happened.

Well, it's not going to be

Well, it's not going to be the same offense...

I can't argue scheme before

I can't argue scheme before team one bit because even though I defended RR to the end, 3 wins or less in year one at almost every place he's coached is pretty hard to ignore. With that said, I think the big picture idea when replacing Lloyd was to replace Lloydball with something out of the 21st century for "long term success" and, dare I say, "relevance" after making a name as of late for getting smoked by mobile QBs rather than winning.

Growing pains should have been expected three years ago for the greater good just as they absolutely need to be expected now if we're set on returning to smashing faces with 3 yards and a cloud of such and such.

The real discussion lies in how no one (not even those in position to hire him in 2007) saw that RR's scheme didn't fit at Michigan and his hiring might warrant some patience in order to make it fit from what has turned out to be the least patient fanbase in sports.

Yes. Blaming RR is easy

Yes. Blaming RR is easy because he's gone, but some of the blame certainly needs to be placed on the AD (pick one or both). Two coaching changes in a 4 year period, especially ones that bring to light serious personnel discrepancies with regard to "the system" are much more at fault as far as transfers are concerned.

But DB wants long term success, so who are we to waiver from our 100% support of him when he shoots himself in the foot in the short term. ::rolls eyes:: (How the RR firing fits into that long-term/short-term logic is beyond me, btw...).

Because up until October of

Because up until October of last year, he hadn't won a single game as HC.

How this man got rich, I'll

How this man got rich, I'll never know. Not by keeping his damn mouth shut, I'd bet.

Exactly.

Exactly.

My point is, old players shouldn't matter. While RR certainly made his own bed in this whole situation, Dhani Jones and the like mouthing off about how they'd "had enough" after two bad seasons certainly didn't help things along.

Listening to players who wore maize and blue clamoring for "the same old Michigan" is a good way to get dragged back into a coaching tree that won just as many games against OSU as RichRod did in their last 3 years.

As a fanbase, 100% support is really not something we're used to giving.

The Cake The clip's from Northwestern 2008 and is probably one of the only highlights I can think of other than Terrance Taylor's spine buster of a tackle.
Having Michigan go from an

Having Michigan go from an awesome team in NCAA '08 to a fixer-upper in NCAA '09 angered me a little bit, but those are the breaks. If it's in the game, it's in the game.

Enjoy!

Armando Allen is pretty good

Armando Allen is pretty good at this game, except he always claims that it was the red box's shadow that touched the wall.

Citing Texas arrogance as a Citing Texas arrogance as a reason to leave the Big 12 is a pretty thinly veiled way of saying "we're tired of taking heartbreaking losses to a superior team and having them brag about it year after year." They don't know what they're in for as soon as MSU beats them ONCE.
AC1 gets super repetitive to

AC1 gets super repetitive to the point where it becomes boring at times. Also, the voice acting is just shy of terrible in both games. Still, the visuals are beautiful and it's worth playing through if you're curious (haven't heard any lukewarm reviews, they're either really good or really bad).

Personally, I found Uncharted 1 and 2 to be excellent and Infamous is also worth checking out.

It's a forgery if the

It's a forgery if the information on said documents isn't true, which it wasn't. Technically, it's an official document, but it's no more legitimate than if someone were to scratch out the date on my birth certificate and write something else in.

True, but the IOC should

True, but the IOC should probably run a tighter ship in terms of forged documentation. I guess there's no easy way to thwart forgery considering every country has different documentation policies with wildly varying "protections" against counterfeiting, but it's still a bit disheartening that it took them a decade to crack this one open.

Why did it take so long to

Why did it take so long to find out how fucking old the kid was? Shouldn't this stuff be double checked before the Olympics even begin?

But didnt you push your personal cause and hierarchy on us?
No, not at all. For the record, I didn't bring this topic here and haven't really voiced my opinion for or against the OP's cause. I merely commented on it like so many others, so our misunderstanding on the issue might end there. I'm not saying we shouldn't rank the causes we wish to support, as that is what clearly needs to happen if we're going to donate to anyone at all. However, we should also be mindful of our personal hierarchy as just that and avoid introducing personal political beliefs to the discussion in order to influence others (especially on a blog where political discussions are strictly frowned upon). To me, it seemed inherently negative to call out this cause as less important than another cause (and I realize that Q did not mean it maliciously) when it would have been perfectly sufficient not to comment at all.
A few days ago, you'd have A few days ago, you'd have been able to get $50 off too.
So much for that unstoppable So much for that unstoppable force of positivity. If you don't feel the need to donate, then don't, but you don't need to get political about it and belittle a good cause because you think that there are better ones. This kid's situation, the ones you bring up, and countless others throughout the world are horrible and could use help. It's when people start to rank these causes and push their personal hierarchy upon others that the selfless act of helping people takes a shockingly negative turn. Be positive.
They take their high school They take their high school football seriously in Texas. In some places, it's like pulling teeth to get new turf/floors installed because the 50 year old relics in place are in disrepair and hurting the kids. Without implying that I know where Allen, TX needs to spend their money, I just hope this sort of support is felt throughout their community and its interests.
I can't figure out why your I can't figure out why your hierarchy of slow sports places baseball--where running and defense and leaping catches are involved--on the slower side of golf, which involves whispering, polite clapping, and leisurely strolls to one's ball after driving to it in a cart.
Seems like a pretty bold and Seems like a pretty bold and heavy line to me. Illinois really goes out of their way to honor the Illini/Sioux, Miami used a slur as a mascot and still mocks Native Americans as a holdover. It's like day and night.
Can't take credit for it While I noticed Obama sounded kind of like The Rock as soon as I heard him speak, and fantasized about him parodying "what Barack was cookin'," I'm afraid it's the man himself that brought it to fruition. (McCain and Hilary are in there too with equally cringe-worthy lines...except "McCainiacs," that's awesome)
Nope. But he, Hilary and Obama each had some cutesy little ad air during the primaries. "Do you smell what Barack is cookin'?"
Cute. Cute.
"Frustrated" and "ashamed to "Frustrated" and "ashamed to be a Wolverine" are two very different things. We're all frustrated, you just had to handle it in an utterly moronic way. Choose your words carefully in these parts, else you'll "childishly" be called out for the total assclown you are.
At the risk of seeming like At the risk of seeming like I'm piling on, fuck off, Fats. It's people like you, who like to reminisce about short goalies and cigar smoke from the 70s and get "irked" when a team you've called "hacks" goes above and beyond what was expected of them at the end of the regular season because it just isn't enough. Look back longingly at whatever the hell you want to justify that you're a "supporter", but when these intramural scrubs are running roughshod over everybody in the near future, we don't want you on our bandwagon. Football and basketball probably won't have you either. It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine.
Agreed. Dave's is only so Agreed. Dave's is only so insane, Blair's 3 AM Reserve will ruin your day.
I'd even add Oregon to that I'd even add Oregon to that list (twice) for posterity's sake, but I don't know that Bill Martin could have foreseen the caliber of the teams we'd eventually face when the games were scheduled years in advance (App. State excluded, if I recall correctly, that was scheduled much closer to the game horror). UConn is a bit of an exception with the whole reopening, new-look Big House situation, but I agree that it's still lose-lose. The thing about being Michigan though, even rebuilding, defensively anemic Michigan, is that a lot of games are lose-lose, even if they're great matchups on paper. Hopefully, we just stomp a friggin' hole in UConn and they go on to run the table, as would have been the case with Utah had we managed to eke out another 3 points. A lose-lose situation can sometimes morph itself into a quality win over the course of the season.
