the just released schedules were a flat-out statement that the B10 doesn't believe SOS will matter in playoff selection

Michigan 34 Illinois 0 |
| 46 weeks 4 days ago | There's absolutely no way, whatsoever..... |
...that that game will start any later than 8PM Eastern. |
| 48 weeks 5 days ago | This is as good as it gets, guys. |
I'm just happy Brandon didn't schedule another game with Appalachian State. Colorado agreed to a one-off with OSU because they are basically a laughingstock compared to what they used to be. |
| 49 weeks 3 days ago | I have not one..... |
I have not one....but both of those gnomes. In my defense, I was in the marching band and couldn't resist. My sister gave me the other one, and it's brought some "luck" on gamedays. In general, I think the tree face and the flamingos were much worse in the "things you put outside" category. |
| 49 weeks 4 days ago | Be careful everyone..... |
Did anyone read the post? He snaps with rage! RAGE! Scott S is writing down names of everyone complaining about this. He's going to pick you out in the stadium, and he's going to snap that ball right through your chest. I for one, welcome our new long-snapping overlord. |
| 51 weeks 3 days ago | Agreed. |
I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill, Ace.
Give it to players who have had their jersey number retired, should have their jersey number retired, or have won a Heisman. That's it. |
| 1 year 1 week ago | Is that you, Aaron Shea? |
If so, I haven't forgiven you for finishing my neighbor and I's Madden 97 game in South Quad during my freshman year. You probably don't remember, but he let you play for him and you proceeded to come back from a 17-point deficit in just under two minutes. So, sorry, you're not getting my vote. |

Yeah, I figured I was probably screwing up the numbers. Accountant, I am not. However, I think we can agree that no matter the cost, this decision is dumb. It's not like sending the band will cause us to file for Chapter 11. |
| 1 year 4 weeks ago | Guess again. |
Former band member here. Generally, the band takes huge jumbo jets to the bowl site. You have to have something big enough to take upwards of 400 people, plus the instruments. Also, the band rents out an entire semi-truck (and the driver) for about a week, in addition to the buses and their drivers. I don't actually know what it costs exactly, but given my experience I'd be surprised if it's not at least $500K. Maybe for this one they'd stay at a cheaper hotel than they normally do for the bowl. But even if it was $500K, that would still be $4.2 million of profit for the AD....... |
| 1 year 8 weeks ago | Am I reading these quotes correctly? |
Not that I want to turn into Section 1, but.... Here are his dad's quotes in the article.....
Out of these fairly vanilla quotes, the Free Press headline is "Trey Burke Strongly Considering Leaving Michigan for NBA." Um, ok First of all, Trey Burke's Dad != Trey Burke. Secondly, even if you think dad's word is the gospel, most of what he says isn't really wrong. He does aspire to play in the NBA, and he should inquire. The wording of the headline implies that Burke is basically out the door already. They're fishing for clicks. |

And it worked on me. |
| 1 year 8 weeks ago | Good write-up.... |
I'll disagree that it was the "Greatest Weekend in Yost History". You alluded to it....the '98 regional was better. We also went on to win the title. |
| 1 year 29 weeks ago | Nope. |
Losing to Iowa would be much worse than losing to Illinois. (Or Purdue or OSU, for that matter, rivalry aside.)
Say that happened and we ended up tied with Iowa and MSU for 1st in the division, each of us with two losses.
Guess who the first team eliminated is? Michigan, because we went 0-2 against the other two teams (head-to-head is the first tie-breaker). Esentially whoever wins the MSU-Iowa game would be divison champ.
In fact, the only way we're going to win most of the two-loss tiebreakers is by making sure we sweep the rest of the division for a 4-1 record in division. |
| 1 year 35 weeks ago | Aw, crap. |
Gotcha, my bad. Guilty of skimming here. |
| 1 year 35 weeks ago | Thanks Jeff.... |
I went looking for my results and couldn't find them, did I make a mistake or something? http://mgoblog.com/diaries/pick-six-returns-now-mgoblog#comment-1207945 |

....what was going on in Heaven. (Ironically) |
| 1 year 37 weeks ago | You didn't account for the students... |
May have been brought up already, but the students aren't paying $70 a game. If you assume you sell 20,000 student tickets, and those prices are fixed no matter who Michigan is playing, the difference in revenue is 87K * $55 - $2 million = 2.8 million, which works out to $2.28 per game if my math is right. |
| 1 year 38 weeks ago | Sounds fun.... |

| 1 year 41 weeks ago | Winning the conference championship in odd years.... |
Is going to be a seriously tall task. I don't know. Maybe Brady will have us into a soul-crushing juggernaut by then, but with Iowa, MSU, and Nebraska enjoying one more home game than we will, the degree of difficulty is going to be high. I don't know why the league just didn't give everyone in a division the extra home game. That would make more sense. By saying teams within a division will not play the same number of home games, you're taking an unbalanced schedule and making it even more unbalanced. |
| 2 years 6 weeks ago | I was at that Herr game..... |
and other than the '97 OSU game (the same school year), I've never been to a better athletic event in Ann Arbor.
We were underdogs that year too. We can do it again.

...of checking out the Freep.
Rosenberg wrote a positive article to add onto the pile. Surprisingly, he also acknowledged that Hoke paid tribute to the foundation Rodriguez laid for the class.
Sharp also wrote something. It should be used as toilet paper. |
| 2 years 28 weeks ago | As Chait himself has pointed out..... |
It would be extremely unfair for either Chait or Brian to do investigative work into the Free Press, just like it was unfair for the Free Press to use a noted anti-Rodriguez columnist to investigate the Michigan football program.
It's time to let this all go and get on with the beating of the Illini. |

| 2 years 34 weeks ago | Yeah, for the half.... |
I told my buddy at halftime that it was going to be a -20 for that half. |
| 2 years 37 weeks ago | It all depends on how the conference.... |
....determines division champions. Most people I know favor every game counting in the conference standings, and then the team with the best conference record in the division goes to the title game. This preserves the stakes in The Game, but it also leads to situation where you have Team A (7-1 league, 4-1 division) going to the title game ahead of Team B (6-2 league, 5-0 division, smoked Team A 49-3). The alternative is for the division standings to determine the division champion. So Team B would go to the title game in my little hypothetical. This, of course, would reduce The Game to a glorified exhibition, and, to answer the OP question, doesn't "hurt" either team at all. I, of course, prefer the former. But I can't wait until the year where we roll Nebraska 49-3 and crush our division, only to see Nebraska go to the title game because they drew Illinois, Indiana, and Purdue. |

| 2 years 38 weeks ago | It's just about impossible to keep everyone happy. |
Just throwing this out there...why not continue the practice of having two protected "rivalry" games like we do now? Especially if and when the league goes to 9 games.... Bo: Michigan, MSU, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Illinois, Northwestern Woody: OSU, PSU, Iowa, Minnesota, Purdue, Indiana TWO protected games: Michigan - OSU and Minnesota MSU - PSU and Indiana Wisconsin - Iowa and Minnesota Nebraska - OSU and Iowa Illinois - Indiana and Purdue Northwestern - PSU and Purdue I'm probably fudging the rivalries a little bit, and I'm definitely fudging the balance of the schedules, but to me these divisions look pretty balanced. My main problem is that it is really hard to maintain competitive balance within the divisions and also amongst schedules, especially within the context of maintaining as many rivalries as possible. Who knows what the Big Ten will do. |
| 3 years 9 weeks ago | Good luck finding the hockey game.... |
I'll echo what previous posters have said about finding the hockey game in Vegas. Virtually every place has Big Ten Network, but you'll face an uphill battle to get them to put it on with the tournament going on. I think one of your better options on the Strip may be the ESPN Zone restaurant at NYNY. If you get there early enough, you can get a table with your own TV. I also know they have Big Ten Network. But even then you may still have to get them to change one of the TVs over. |
