JUB Interview

Monday Night Football is on ESPN and NBA Coast to Coast is on ESPN 2 at 900 (following the end of Neb.-Fla. State basketball game).  ESPN U also has college basketball scheduled.  Is this just a quick interview on some kind of sports roundup, or will his interview be shown later on Sports Center? Thanks.

New Coach

If we're talking about fringe candidates (and former Tampa Bay coaches), then what about Raheem Morris, currently DB coach for the Washington Redskins?  He's a defensive guy, only 38, and seems to have a lot of potential.  Biggest knock might be limited experience in college coaching.  His last stint was defensive coordinator at Kansas State in 2006.  Other college jobs were Hofstra (his alma mater) and Cornell, so he doesn't seem to have Midwest connections, but is not a warm weather guy.  He's from tough Irvingon, NJ, and there are plenty of Michigan fans in NJ.  (I lived there for several years.)  He had mixed success as HC at Tampa Bay, but it's a hard place to win, and he was promoted with a total of only one month as an NFL coordinator. I think he was one of only two Shanahan assistants that Jay Gruden kept when he took over.  He seems to be loyal.  Right after Shanahan offered him the job as DB coach, he was offered the defensive coordinator job with the Vikings, and turned it down because he'd given his word to Washington.  Suppose he has limited experience with recruiting, but I think it could be a strong suit once he gets started.  People say he's a charismatic guy, and that players love playing for him.  The Michigan job is certainly a step up from his current position, and he could be here a long time IF the NFL isn't the destination job he wants.

Capital One

Most people see us in the Capital One Bowl, facing Georgia.  If Georgia wins the SEC championship game and goes to the Title game, it seems likely that Alabama will be in the Capital One Bowl.  (This assumes that the Sugar Bowl still takes Florida.)  Presumably, the Capital One Bowl wouldn't rematch us with Alabama, so wouldn't we end up in the Outback Bowl?  Who is our likely opponent in that case--South Carolina?  LSU?

ND/BC

I was assuming BC would be one of their five ACC games, but if the Conference does schedule teams randomly, it might be a sixth Conference game in some years.  Notre Dame doesn't usually avoid scheduling tough teams, so I would expect them to continue a popular series like Michigan.  They could maybe play 2 out of 3 Big Ten teams annually, meaning MI, Purdue and MSU would rotate.  They might continue to play Purdue every year for a while, but eventually rotate them on the same basis as MI and MSU, since those games generate a lot more excitement.

Weather

"Ann Arbor gets cold in the winter, and you'll freeze your butt off."  That's about it, and it only works for warm-weather schools, not our Big Ten competition.

Dear V-Tech Fans

Severe disappointment by VA Tech fans should not be construed as "whining".  It was a very close game, they dominated in most categories, and we have all had similar experiences.  It's a lot easier to be gracious when you win, and the above post is not gracious.  Michigan deserves better, and so does VA Tech.

Best Photo

If you go to www.unipanthers.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/montgomery_jerry00.html and then scroll down, you will see an irresistible picture of Jerry with wife Natalie and two of their three impossibly cute little boys.  He could recruit with that picture alone.
