You could say the same for La Liga, Bundesliga, and Serie A. There are plenty of teams in mid table (Everton, Westham, Spurs, Villa, Fulham) that can challenge the big boys. I often find myself rooting for teams to pull "the great escape." Relegation is a very real, palpable thing; ask Newcastle fans about it.

Threet played hard, made no excuses, and genuinely tried. He didn't fit into the scheme at UM, so he left. He didn't call out any coaches, the school, or the fanbase. Even now, he didn't take any shots when he could have.
And all you want to do is say "if."
Michigan fans should support Threet in his decision. If he was so horrible, you shouldn't be upset that he left. Threet has my respect and best wishes.

And with the QB's coming out next year, plus the free agent QB's, the QB need could be addressed with an Oline and defense on the upswing. Both of those(along with a running game) are a rookie QB's best friend.

The reason most US fans have a dislike for soccer, futbol, proper football, footie, etc is that they only watch the World Cup. The world cup is a different animal than club play, kind of like the olympics. Yes, you have the same great athletes playing, but there is a different format and strategy.
American fans can't comprehend the ball going backwards to improve positioning for attack. Americans don't understand how an away draw is as good as a win. Americans don't understand pools or qualifying rounds(even though hockey is actually done pretty much the same way, with points for victories and ties.) I see the parallels you are trying to draw here, but they don't work. I know college kids drink, and I also know that UM has had it's share of troubles with alcohol.
Griese, Grady, et al didn't have reported attitude problems at UM. I'm not the "bitter transfer" guy, but Mallett left in a very poor manner(see S Threet for the proper way).

.. that's good. These other 80 DC's - who are they playing ? How good is their offense? Do they have anything better than a rag tag O-line and a QB with half an arm? It's easy to compile good defensive STATISTICS if your D is never on the field.

And as for "veteran", I'm not sure Grady and Minor qualify as veterans, seeing how they have as much time IN THIS SYSTEM as the rest of the backs. Neither Grady or Minor have more than 170 carries tota(which is low for a season, not to mentio 2 or 3 seasons)l, because they played behind Hart. If "veteran" means being on campus, and a member of the team, then yes, that would fit.

Yes, right now, his passing is scary as hell. He's young. I wouldn't pass judgement until next year.

If a kid really wants to play for RR, he'll have watched the games. If he's watched the games, he'll see what's going on: improvement and good coaching.

If he can't see that, then maybe it's not the type of player RR would have wanted. At worst, he would see that there is an opportunity to start if he can beat anyone on the current roster. That is porved by the amount of freshmen actually playing.

Safeties should be chomping at the bit to get to UM.

.... stuation is dire is an understatement. The O-line didn't play well, as expected. The D in the first half was abysmal. UM lost.

But, I'm not as down as I usually am after a loss. I saw a team that didn't quit. Even though they were challenged, they didn't roll over. I actually saw adjustments. I saw players that were well conditioned. A loss still stings, but they are positives.

It will come. It'll be ugly before it does, but UM's time will come.

I think a bigger disappointment was how App State got destroyed.
