- The general public is not aware that Superman lives among them in disguise as an ordinary human. All the public really knows about Superman is that he shows up when there is trouble and then he's gone. He doesn't wear a mask, so he must always be existing somewhere as Superman, there's not evidence to the contrary. Therefore, there is no motivation for anyone to speculate about or try and discover a secret identity that nobody is aware exists.
- Nobody really knows what Superman looks like, because they aren't 3rd person observers of his exploits like a comic book reader. The average person never encounters Superman in his or her daily life, and if you do, it's probably Superman doing something off in the distance or flying overhead. Very few people encounter Superman up close and personal and even those instances are brief. Nobody is sitting down in a cafe and having a conversation over a cup of coffee with Superman.
- Even if Superman were photographed and even if that photograph made it into a newspaper, it's not likely that photo comes with an accompanying photo of Clark Kent right next to it. Superman isn't a media celebrity stopping and posing for the paparazzi.
- Clark Kent is not a famous person. The average guy on the street doesn't know who Clark Kent is or what he looks like. If you were one of the select few persons who were to ever meet both Superman and Clark Kent in person, it probably wasn't in close succession. In which case, Clark's disguise might lead you to a, "...he kinda looks like..." moment, but doesn't lead to an epiphany that Clark Kent is Superman in disguise. Think about it, most people resemble somebody famous.

Michigan got probably the toughest draw in the tournament both of those seasons as a reward for hosting the regional. The 2002-03 Wolverines were easily a 2 seed in any other Regional but got stuck as a 3 seed in the Midwest against Maine and CC. That game against Maine was a dogfight, an absolute slugfest, while Colorado College got to coast past Wayne State. That CC team was bigger, better, and well-rested. MIchigan just out-skated them that day and I've never heard Yost that loud. Still Top 3 in greatest sporting environments I've ever been party to.

If that's the standard to which you're going to hold Harbaugh, then you should prepare for disappointment, or pray that Urban Meyer's "health issues" return.
|1 week 3 days ago||Ugh||
What an overwrought load of tripe. Please show me the litany of negative posts impugning Brady Hoke's character on this board. People on this board consistently qualify any criticism of Hoke with their admiration for him as a person and as a repsentative of Michigan. Criticism of him is ALWAYS limited to things of a technical nature, coaching-wise. This is a lot more than can be said for the treatment Rich Rodriguez got while he was our head coach.
And as for wins and losses, I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but it kind of is about that around here. We show a video before the start of every home football game touting:
42 Conference Championships
11 National Championships
3 Heisman Trophy Winners
The Most Wins in College Football
...and so on and so on. Like it or not, that's what were SELLING; to fans, to alumni, to the student body, and to recruits. Yeah, there's other things here at Michigan that we take pride in, that make us unique, but if we're not winning games, none of that really matters. The largest football stadium in America is not going to be full unless we are winning.
And spare us the "I don't want to be Alabama" disclaimer. Nobody expects Jim Harbaugh to achieve Alabama results. If Harbaugh doesn't win 3 National Championships in his first 5 seasons, nobody is going to be calling for his fucking job. I expect Jim Harbaugh to get us back to winning conference championships, keeping us in the conversation for a playoff spot, play us even with OSU, stick Dantonio and MSU back in the corner, and just start winning games that we should always be winning. That's not an unrealistic expectation, and I'm guessing it pales in comparisons to his own.
Now if he wants to toss a couple of National Titles in there on top of this, that would be fine too....
I think you meant well with your post, but you're making an issue of out something that isn't a thing and it's annoying.

Michigan for in-state tuition is closer to $100-$110K. Still not peanuts. ND is a private school and that $200K price tag you're estimating is not too far off from the truth.

Considering that all the QBs are kinds of starting from scratch with Harbaugh and Drevno, is there really that much of a separation between a RS Freshman and a true Frosh early enrollee? I'm wondering if the fact that Malzone has a little bit of wiggle to his game gives him the leg up over Speight?
|1 week 4 days ago||I wrote a diary on this very||
I wrote a diary on this very topic a couple of years ago. Bottom line was if we had started the 2012 season with Devin as the back-up QB, we probably lose the Air Force game but are probably in a better position to compete against Nebraska and perhaps win the Legends Division.
Magnus does raise an interesting notion though. If Devin had repelaced Denard at QB and let us use Denard at RB, Slot, Weapon-back, wherever. Who knows where we would've wound up. Would Devin have tossed 6 picks in South Bend? Would we have handled Nebraska with ease? Interesting to speculate.
|1 week 4 days ago||Huh?||
Wait, I thought we lost the Big 10 Legends title in 2012 because we had moved Gardner to WR and didn't have him lying in wait to back up Denard when he went down injured against Nebraska? Which is it?

That's what makes these conversations so interesting, James Bond has featured in so many movies and has been portrayed by so many different actors, you can debate forever over who prefers what. Myself, my least favorite portrayal of Bond is Roger Moore. I've always been a Connery guy. Of course if you were to point to the actor who comes closest to how the James Bond character is portrayed in the book, it's probably Timothy Dalton or Daniel Craig.

I'm not defending this coach's behavior, but this story definitely reads like a team that didn't like it's coach and used any instance of impropriety as a tool to get rid of him.

"If you're not yelling, then they won't listen to you" is a phrase I've heard uttered by managers in my office. I don't ascribe to that theory, but there are plenty of bosses who believe it's the only way to motivate.

|2 weeks 1 day ago||The problem with the Brosnan||
The problem with the Brosnan movies wasn't Brosnan, who I think played a pretty good James Bond, but the franchise had fallen into this pattern or trying to top itself with every subsequent movie. Cooler gadgets, bigger action, etc... that by the time Brosnan came along the stories had blown up to such ridiculous preportions, they were almost becoming parodies of themselves.
Dominic Greene isn't on my list simply becauxe I don't agree. I think Mathieu Almaric's performance in "Quantum of Solace" is pretty good. He played that whole role with his eyes, where you look at him and realize he's not just some greedy, corporate raider, but he's a little insane. Then you get to the end of the movie, where Bond has folied his plot and he just grabs and ax and tries to hack you to pieces like the psychopath that you've suspected he is all along.

The allusions are based upon the idea that the majority of elite college basketball prospects play for AAU teams sponsored by Nike, which is by far, the biggest sponsor. Adidas has a much smaller presence on the AAU circuit. Coaches for schools with clothing deals with Adidas claim to find it almost impossible to make inroads with propsects playing for AAU teams sponsored by Nike and these AAU coaches of Nike-sponsored teams steer their kids to Nike schools. Pitino has been the most out-spoken critic of the system.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||While I found the video to be||
While I found the video to be shocking and embarrassing, I had to admit to feeling a little sorry for the students involved, if only because I doubt any of our lives in their entirety would stand up this kind of public scrutiny. The idea that any random act can be captured by someone and broadcast for all to see is a sobering prospect. That's not to say that bringing this particular incident to light isn't the correct thing to do, because I believe wholeheartedly that it is, but I find myself wondering where the line gets drawn.
I'd hate to be made to account for every dumbass thing I did or said when I was 20 years old. As a guy now in his mid-40's I'm a lot wiser than I used to be, but thinking about the world my kids are going to be living in, where any dumb mistake could just ruin them. Terrifying prospect and I wonder how one prepares them adequately to deal with it.

That actually was the logic used by the villain Egghead (portrayed by Vincent Price) in the old Batman TV series. Egghead kidnaps three of the richest men in Gotham who are the correct age as Batman. From those three, one is left-handed, whereas he's observed Batman to be right-handed, and the other has a French accent, which leaves Bruce Wayne as the only candidate to be Batman.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Why Superman's Disguise Works||
There actually is a simple, logical, and plausible explanation circulated around the internet for why the world in general doesn't realize that Superman and Clark Kent are the same person.
Now, of course, this explanation breaks down for that small group of people who actually have a personal relationship with both Superman and Clark Kent, like Lois Lane. In this instance, it's preposterous to believe that Clark's disguise could be in any way effective, and of course, that aspect of the Superman canon was adjusted accordingly in the last "Man of Steel" movie.
So it's not really so implausible to believe that the majority of folks never put it together that Clark Kent and Superman are the same guy.

Especially if you're starting out cold, with no preparation as the OP suggests in his first edit. It could take you 2, 3, maybe even 4 shots just to determine the best motion and hopefully get the your range dialed in. Bottom line, without preparation, you have pretty much 0% chance of maknig that shot based on any kind of skill, you're just heaving up a prayer.
