We made the tournament last year?
|2 weeks 3 days ago||It will be interesting to see||
It will be interesting to see how Donlon and Beilein will mesh (or at least read about it in 5 years in J Bacon's new book) being on opposite ends of the skill-set spectrum. A step-up on defense really alleviates any offensive woes. It felt at times last year that we had to match our opponents shot for shot if we were going to have any chance. A few more stops per game makes a lot of difference and can generate some easy buckets on the other end

Rahk was consistently our best option to drive to the hoop and score last season. It's not too hard to make a case that he was our most valuable player at time last year. If one of Chatman/Wilson can make the leap next year, then it would improve the 2 and 3, like you mentioned in your other post.
|7 weeks 5 days ago||I can mostly agree. Donnal||
I can mostly agree. Donnal is a 5 in Beilein's "4-out, 1-in" system, though. He is best to keep developing at that position since he doesn't have the ball-handling or outside shooting that are consistent enough to play 4. It took Jordan Morgan a while to get to where he was in his final year. I hope Donnal can make those same steps

A stretch 4 is ideal, but if that's not on the table, a wing who can defend on the ball is my next choice. It was frustrating at times last year watching Robinson or Dawkins get blown by on the dribble. We've seen how far this team can go with a serviceable defense. The UD coaching search also looms large if Beilein is choosing a (hopefully defensive-minded) replacement for BA.

I miss our old coach, Bohn Jeilein, who really raised our program to new heights. This new guy can't hold a candle to that guy. His teams always had moxie and toughness and grit and other words that I use to describe why the ball goes into the basket.

What teams would you measure our success against? Not saying being better than OSU is the goal, but surely we can't compete against the Kansas/Duke/UNC type of school for a realistic expectation in the near future

When you've gone two weeks without an NCAA tournament appearance, things get ugly

That is 100% a fact. Steve Fisher also last coached Michigan ~20 years ago, which is also a fact

I don't think anyone enjoys being #2 but I think we all understand WHY it is, right? It's not a coincidence that the rise of MSU came with M on probation. Program stability goes a long way

This is his schtick. There's no getting around it. It's always some combination of:
Michigan was good in the 80's and 90's + Michigan dumped millions of dollars into facilities
Anything less than a second weekend in March is UNACCEPTABLE.
f you challenge him, he either insults you, or apologizes for wanting Michigan to do well.
I don't understand it either. The thing is, there ARE legit criticisms of Beilein but they are so poorly conveyed in these threads that any real conversation devolves quickly.

I don't see it as a big mistake. I think the cons of Spike coming back outweigh the pros
-Guard depth, especially if there are any injuries
-Take minutes away from someone who needs to develop
-Being the 3rd PG dimishes his opportunity to showcase his skills if he wants to play overseas
-Opportunity cost of not using the spot on a grad/transfer/freshman who may be able to improve other positions on the floor
-We aren't sure about his health
I like him as much as anyone, but it may be best for both parties to walk away
|8 weeks 5 days ago||Love Spike, but||
I don't understand why, even if we had a spot for him, Spike would come back next year to be the 3rd string PG. If you were him and had a one year audition to go play in Europe, wouldn't you want to be featured a little more? I think many are too quick to jump on Beilein for not being able to accomodate a fan favorite.

Football requires extensive time in the weight room before most freshmen are ready to see serious playing time. When an incoming freshman can fill in just as well as a senior to the basketball team, it makes more sense to play him and let him develop.

I agree with this. Stand all you want during key plays and touchdowns, but it can really ruin the experience for anyone who is not 6 ft tall or doesn't have the knees to stand and sit all the time.

Nik hits a 3 vs State this year at home and forces a timeout because Crisler is losing its mind. His mom (seen on TV) quips, "He's mad now"

Should I be worried about this? Tickets for the semifinals session are ~$50 at this point on Stubhub. I can't imagine paying that much on the street just to get in

There were quite a few instances at the game of me grabbing my knees and an "I cant do this"
|2 years 29 weeks ago||If we lose to both of those||
If we lose to both of those teams, I'll be shocked. That would say more about us than a loss to state. I fully expect this team to regroup.
The 2010 psu game was definitely the turning point, but that team had just come off of two losses that they didn't really have much of a shot in (save some late game throws by Forcier vs Iowa). I would say that these next 3 weeks are the proverbial Penn State 2010 for this team. They are expected to win and they should win against lesser opponents and failing to do so would certainly fuel the offseason chatter about the staff.
|2 years 29 weeks ago||Well they're 7-1 with a great||
Well they're 7-1 with a great defense. I don't see how that doesn't make them good. When you're starting from the 50 most of the time like they did yesterday, you're going to score points.
Comparing scores is irrelevant. We scored 59 on CMU and 28 on Akron but CMU is better than Akron. It's not so black and white
|2 years 29 weeks ago||MSU is a good team. I'll||
MSU is a good team. I'll hold my judgment til the end of the season. We still have 3 very winnable games on the schedule leading to osu. 9-3 is not so unrealistic and I think everyone would have been good with that record coming into this year.

Bill Murray used the term "Cinderella Story" in Caddyshack to refer to an underdog winning. So underdogs are Cinderella. Cinderella went to the ball also known as a dance. Hence, the big dance.

Provided Michigan beats Kansas and Gulf Coast beats Florida, on a scale of 1-10 how crushed would you be if they beat Michigan? Gotta admit it'd be fun to see this team in the final four, no matter how big the dong punch.
