Any program not named UCLA, Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, or Kansas would love to be Wisconsin. You seem to be mad that Michigan is not consistently a top 10 team, but I dont know what solution you have for this. There's no clear go-to candidate waiting in the wings (e.g. NC State praying to get alum Archie Miller). Basketball Jim Harbaugh is not coming here because we had some good seasons in the 90s.

I think asking what the ceiling is a question that deserves a better answer than BAH LOSER'S MENTALITY but okay
|1 week 3 hours ago||This is just cliche sports||
This is just cliche sports talk that doesn't actually mean anything. Will you know Michigan has heart and determination when more balls go through the hoop? How is Michigan not "striving to be better"?
|1 week 3 hours ago||Wisconsin is a good model to||
Wisconsin is a good model to shoot for, but I don't think we're in need of blowing up the program to get there, especially when they are doing exactly what Michigan is trying to do now: develop talent that turns generic 3 star recruits into awesome Jrs and Srs.
We're 11th in AdjO in Kenpom and the defense has improved throughout the year (still a long way to go at 105th in AdjD), but at least Beilein has at least some recognition that it needs to improve by hiring Donlon. With another few years to go on Beilein's contract (there's no way he gets fired as long as he keeps making the tournament), my view is that it's just best to enjoy the ride and see what happens
|1 week 7 hours ago||I guess my question for you||
I guess my question for you is the question for all of these kinds of posts: What is our realistic ceiling and how do we get there? John Beilein has flaws, especially when it comes to the types of players he values in recruiting. He's also missed the tournament only 3 times since he was hired and made 5 of the last 6. How much is realistically improved by firing him?

Almost forgot the "but we got Harbaugh" argument that pays no attention to the incredibly unique circumstances that got him here. It's funny that this is the go-to factoid for Beilein replacements but then in other threads we laugh at NFL teams who talk about backing up the money truck to give JH a much more prestigious job.

Let's just fast forward to the part of the conversation where you suggest Archie Miller/Greg Marshall/Tony Bennett as replacements and I'll try to keep a straight face.

It's very obnoxious to bring up John Beilein coaching speculation right now. This team just had their best week of the season since the MSG games and has solidly played themselves in the tourney barring an epic collapse.

"Michigan won two out of three games this week and the third went to OT. What gives?"

I don't buy any ref conspiracy theories. I'm just not sure what style of play the refs were trying to enforce. Seemed like any challenged shot (for either team) was an automatic foul.
|1 week 20 hours ago||Besides the last four minutes||
Besides the last four minutes of the first half, that was an exceptionally ugly and tedious game to watch. I'm not sure we made it more than two possession changes without a foul call in the whole second half. I'm still incredulous that Beilein got a foul called on him on the opposite end of the court. Overall not a good basketball game

ESPECIALLY after the IU game ("you wrecked the program"), the name Jordan Morgan was met with tons of groans. Going from that low to being the perfect pick and roll guy with Stauskas was amazing.

That can all be true and still make Harbaugh in the wrong by not making things crystal clear with Swenson. There was a communication issue and it's on the staff to make it right
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Appreciate Harbaugh reaching||
Appreciate Harbaugh reaching out to give his side of the story. It sounds like he's learned his lesson about being more communicative and honest with recruits. The "it's a business" line doesn't fly when the optics on the situation were so bad for Michigan, so at least he came out and gave his side. I'm glad it all worked out for Swenson

Football games just arent as fun to go to now that TV is the main audience. I went to a Lions game this year and timed 15 minutes of dead TV timeout time in just the first quarter. Is it really that fun to sit around on your phone for an hour and change while the TVs go to commercials? College football is getting to be the same way
That+being increasingly expensive+weather+the drive to Ann Arbor+the guy behind you spewing hot takes about effort and play calling means that fewer people want to go when you can spend your 3.5 hours at home and enjoy it all the same.

You certainly have that right! However there is a good bit of overlap between the "safe spaces are bad" crowd and the "I don't watch sports to hear about politics" group..as if they want sports to be a place where they won't feel uncomfortable I.e a safe space

Adults who denounce safe spaces and PC culture but openly whine about Colin Kaepernick kneeling or college athletes sitting out their bowl games. Turns out it's actually NOT good to be offended when you're the one being offended.
Anyone who seriously talks about participation trophies.
Saying it's unfair to presume Grant Perry as "guilty until proven innocent" because we don't know exactly what happened, and then laying out the rosiest possible scenario of how he must've been lost in a large crowd and then accidentally hurt a police man.
Pushing a conspiracy about how OSU refs screwed us. It's over. No amount of complaining will ever change the result of the game. Pick your battles
John Beilein haters. "WARDE WON'T BE HAPPY ABOUT THIS." NIKE MONEY. FAB 5. UNACCEPTABLE
Also people who use the word "UNACCEPTABLE" to describe any sports performance. "This game does not meet the requirements laid out by me, the 40 year old man in Milford"
Anyone who takes it upon themselves, as an unofficial representative of the University of Michigan, to personally tweet and message 18 year olds who might sign a Letter of Intent to play football or basketball. I remember when Rashan Gary said that it was really the unsolicited messages from strangers that clinched his decision to go to Michigan over Clemson
Draftageddon complainers. It's free content. Just scroll past it like the rest of us.

Ramzy at 11W has a great (though obviously OSU slanted) article about this kind of phenomenon, about how you can hate or love one player depending on the jersey they're wearing. I think we see the same thing here with Harbaugh
Eye roll at the OSU stuff but it's a good read nonetheless

Will they scan your mobile Stubhub ticket at the gate off of your phone? I know they do for basketball, but not sure about football. For basketball, I usually sit in the parking lot for 20-30 minutes before tip off looking for a cheap ticket. It works pretty well
|26 weeks 3 days ago||Basketball||
Bought tickets on a Stubhub-surfing whim to the Iowa basketball game a few years ago. Black ice from 696 all the way to Ann Arbor. I got to 275 and decided that since I made it that far (and didnt want to try and exit and spin out), I'd just complete the trip. Left with enough time to get there about 30 minutes early on a normal day, arrived at the under-8 minute timeout of the 2nd half. Michigan wins! Promptly turn around and drive back home.
