Don't look now, but this is an already young team. Cabrera, Victor, Kinsler, Verlander and Sanchez are the only guys over 30 next year, and the hitters don't look like they're slowing down much . Pitchers are weird, who knows what JV will do, but his recent starts are encouraging. The majority of the everyday players are 28 and under: JDM, Castellanos, Iglesias, McCann, and Gose. The only hole is LF, which I expect to be filled through FA. For pitching next year we have Norris, Boyd, Lobstein, and Greene to fill two spots. I'm assuming we'll sign someone, there are many good FA SP on the market this year.

I was just wondering the other day what it's like on the sidelines during games. How does a decision get made and a play called within the 15 to 30 seconds between plays? How much do the position coaches help the coordinator and head coach? How many people are on the headset conversation? This was an interesting article but didn't really get into the inside baseball I was looking for.

With all due respect, WD, you're crazy. Michigan is as far as I know the only school that exerted enough pressure on Nike (and later, adidas) to shrink the manufacturer's logo and put it at the base of the collar instead of on the front of the shoulder pad. It's where it should be. This is Michigan, not the University of Nike or U of Jumpman. The logo is a necessary evil, but it should be minimized as much as possible. Compare Henne/Hart era Michigan uniforms to OSU and MSU then and now. The big honking swoosh is a distraction.
Brandon gets derided for his branding obsession, but he had a point. For all of his misguided uniformz, at least our school logos, colors, and trademarks were at the center of them all, and he used our power over adidas, instead of them using us. In fact, now that I think of it, since he's been gone our basketball uniforms have been crap - we wore the stupid adidas template in the BTT last year and just came out with the goofy tire treads on the pants.

Guys, let's be nice to our current athletic department employees. Just because Brandon brought them in doesn't mean they are not smart, dedicated, and competent. In fact, JUB pointed out Brandon went out of his way to find the best people he could, and I am confident most are in fact great at their jobs. A little bit of outside perspective might have been what the dept needed at the time they were hired. And now they have been around the AD and university for a year or more, they have probably learned a lot about the culture of the University, especially in the time since Brandon himself left. The ones most loyal to DB probably left already anyway (see Lochdogg).
Bacon makes it pretty clear that Brandon himself was the problem in the yes-man culture he created. I have to believe that Hackett, Schlissel, and many other nameless AD employees have worked hard to turn it around.
Calling "Dave's boys" "empty suits" is akin to casting aspersions on 90% of the current football roster because they were recruited and played for Brady Hoke. Leadership matters, and people are adaptable and generally good.

The most interesting thing I found from the article was that his contract was guaranteed through 2019, so Texas is on the hook (pun intended) for the remainder.

There is at least 3 years of accumulated apathy. It will take a while for the students to get in the habit of showing up on time and staying the whole game. In BLL Bacon notes the fans, particularly students, stuck with the team from 08-13, and it was really just Brandon and the GA policy that caused student attendance to fall in the last couple years. It will be almost as long to recover that goodwill with the students. HARBAUGH will go a long way to speed that up, and winning, especially against MSU and OSU, will do even more.
P.S. to the AD, if you're listening--if the students want to jump on the field after a win over Ohio State this year, let them go. Being on the field in 2011 and 2012 as a student is somethig I won't forget. It's an experience that cannot be replicated at home. That's the way to build loyal fans.

I'm not a fan of TV numbers since now a days nobody wears actual sleeves. If you must have them put them on the shoulders. I don't mind the lack of maize, since there is enough on the pants, but if we are actually going to wear white pants for a game, that's gonna be a pretty boring uniform compared to what we normally wear. But I'll wait until I see players wearing them on the field to actually judge them.

241 posts in and no one is (or is man enough to admit) a geek about musical theater. I'll say, I like the Broadway shows more than any straight man I know. I like the big shows from the 80s like Les Miz and Phantom, plus the old Rogers and Hammerstein shows, and a lot of new ones as well. Before I see them, I'll listen to the cast album until I nearly memorize it. I'll go to see many every chance I get, whether professional or amateur, even high school. I learn about the actors and what other parts they have played. And my YouTube history is full of audience recorded scenes from big shows with the big stars.

$6M AAV is higher than everyone but Datsyuk & Zetterberg. Green is 29--I like the 3 year term, gives us a solid player without getting stuck with a terrible contract years down the road.
Who knows what Blash will do, but here's a wild guess at D pairings:
Quincey-Smith (just resigned for 2.75M so he's obviously still in the plans)
The rest: Kindl, Ouelette, Marchenko - I hope we can dump Kindl somehow and possibly trade XO or Alexey for an upgrade elsewhere. It would not serve to have them both stuck in GR all year behind the top 6.

Proposal - adopt football divisions for basketball. Yes it would be imbalanced, but it would keep rivalries intense. The East would be stacked, Wisco would have an easy schedule. I'm willing to play the West only once per year if it means guaranteed H/H with MSU, OSU, IU (and PSU, Maryland and Rutgers I guess).
Here's what I think should happen:
20 game schedule, home and home vs other 6 teams in your division (12 games) plus one game vs. each team in opposite division (7 more games). The last game can be (A) a protected crossover rivalry (IU and Purdue would probably want this); (B) a strict rotation (14 year cycle, and you play each crossover 8 times at home over the 14 years; or (C) a matchup determined by previous year ranking in the division (1v1, 2v2, etc.) for competitive balance.
You could even design the BTT so that teams play at least the first game against the opposite division.

"Sweep or Die" is rather dramatic. Let's not forget that we still have the B1G tournament to get us into the NCAA tourney. Obviously you can never count on single elimination hockey, but you cannot completely discount it either. We'll be the best team in the Joe and it will basically be home ice (I understand Minnesota has crazy good hockey fans, but I can't imagine too many will make the 12 hour drive). How many Wisco, OSU or MSU fans will be there with crappy teams to cheer for and their basketball teams in March Madness? They would all root against Michigan out of spite.
What I'm saying is obviously would be better to win than lose. But a loss in the next few games is not the end of the season.
