Lots of good articles to celebrate the anniversary, but this one is from my favorite hockey writer Sean McIndoe:

I think jumping to a 5 is crazy talk and I think it's better to be on the bottom of the bracket anyway. 6 should be comfortable but I wouldn't be surprised if we drop to 7 with a loss
The competition (on bracket matrix):
Interesting that the matrix has Minnesota a 5 and Northwestern a 9. To me, both seem like they should be in the 6-8 mix with us.

YNWA, except I'm missing the game unless my friend will put it on the TV at his St. Paddy's day party. Not likely. Anyway, hope they can get up to get revenge against Burnley, the first game was a disaster. Going to need every available point to keep pace in the top 4.

I'm playing Devil's advocate - the B1G could still have screwed Michigan here and this report is just cover to keep all parties looking good and happy. Since Michigan won, Michigan can say they got what they wanted and it worked out while in reality the preference was shut down.
This could be interpreted to mean "Michigan got what they wanted out of a short list of undesirable options." Say Michigan said they wanted a later game and also for the Friday games moved so that M or IL would not have short rest, but the Purdue/B1G shut it down out of hand because of the myriad of logistical issues. So then the options are what time to play Thursday, and knowing you'll have a game at noon Friday - well then 12:20 is probably the best option.
As the Warde Manuel defenders all said on the threads where he was getting bashed: sometimes you play politics and let the other side save face. This may be one of those times. I'm not saying that you shouldn't take this at face value - but you probably shouldn't totally accept it at face value either.
In any case - Michigan won and will play tomorrow, so let's all celebrate that.

Don't you collect every on-court/field/ice uniform you can? If you can't get this one would it bother you?
|2 weeks 6 days ago||I would certainly keep||
I would certainly keep wearing them. Is there a white or blue set as well?
Nike is likely working on a replacement set for this and next weekend. It would be interesting to know what is going on right now. Does Nike/the school have enough replacements? Is the Michigan Maize color in stock, or are they special enough that they would have to be fabricated? Is the design custom for Michigan, or could Nike use a template like they have for most teams? How does the Jordan brand affect all this? Would Nike/Michigan be willing to "settle" for a generic jersey design if that's the easiest to make available to the team or will either side think that is unacceptable for a Jordan name brand? These are all my burning business questions that I will likely never get fully answered.

I just made up a stat - shot distance-to-points ratio. With all the 3s and a couple long twos, we have to be setting a record right now. It's fine to do that as long as shots are falling.
As I write that - Wilson get's the alley-oop from Irvin. Nice.

That's what I was saying - not that I want all of Brandon with his nearly infinite faults, but I don't think anyone can deny that his first major "project" was a sucess. Contemptuousness in the situations that call for it is a great way to describe it - I wish we had that attitude/skill/whatever back.

I can't believe I'm saying this but after this whole mess I want the Dave "Pimp Hand" Brandon back - the one that was our hero after he told the NCAA and local media where to put it during the practice time "violations" investigation. Everyone remember that?

I was gonna say that. And John Gibson - I believe they were consecutive years, right? I know Gibson has been in the NHL for a couple years now, what happened to Campbell?
You're right, after Hunwick left, the goalie situation has been rough. Not that the rest of the team has helped much to fix it.

I think it's actually kinda cool for an NFL team to play in such a small stadium. Better a small crowded atmosphere than an huge empty bowl (like the Rams in the Coliseum)
|13 weeks 5 days ago||I never understand why fans||
I never understand why fans get so upset over the back end of the roster. Newsflash, every team has some shitty backup catcher/25th man who can't hit. It really doesn't matter. Avila will play in maybe 25% of the games, if that.
The Tigers season will depend on how JV and JZ pitch/stay healthy, whether the three young starters keep growing, and getting continued excellence from the big stars in the lineup. Their performance this season is far more high leverage than whatever happens with AA.

As a fan I don't like it but as a fan I hold a lot of selfish, ridiculous positions. I think they should play year round and have a 4+ round tournament and have the Rose Bowl be the permanent championship game location. But I also live in the real world so I accept that this makes sense for McCaffrey.
On the other hand, if this is a slippery slope that leads to players skipping important regular season games, then I'll be pretty upset because it kinda undermines the integrity of the sport (which I acknowlege is built on a house of cards under amateurism rules anyway). Like they said, Gardner vs. OSU and other memorable moments mean something to the fans and players alike. A late December bowl game between teams that didn't come close to winning their conference - eh, not so much.

Come on guys, we're better than petty attacks on former athletes for speaking their minds on a difficult subject.
It was during the Iowa game, and I actually engaged with him a little bit. I was disappointed as well but his tweets were thought-provoking and not really inflammatory. He went through the meat grinder of the Michigan basketball program, and has a perspective most of us will never have. You don't have to agree with everything he says (and I don't) but you should listen and respect him.
I'm not going to try to summarize but you can probably go back in his timeline to see them.

This interests me but not enough that I want to spend the doing my own research on it. Could someone please give a short ELI5 summary of current VR? What's the difference between the expensive systems people have mentioned compared to what seems like the low end Google cardboard and Samsung Gear I see commercials for?
Also to relate this to Michigan, what system did the football team use for practice in the spring? I remember some articles on how the team got to train with an experimental VR setup.

I disagree. The Lions had a Thursday night game last year the week after Thanksgiving. To me it's a good compromise: you get a short week, then a full week to recover, then the 10 day break following the Thursday night game. Why "screw over" two teams for the Thursday night short week when you only have to do it to one?
Side note: I was reading about the CFL during the Grey Cup last Sunday. They play (1) 18 games per season (2 bye weeks for 20 week season plus playoffs) and (2) because there are 9 teams, one team has to play two games in one week (they do Wednesday/Monday night). It's pretty crazy.

The color commentator is even more insufferable with his catchphrases than Buccigross. Both are trying way too hard.

According to my calculations*, he will make $168,750 if he stays on the active roster the rest of the season. Not bad for warming up and holding a clipboard. For the sake of the Lions, I hope Stafford keeps playing like a star and Rudock doesn't need to see the field.
*Showing my work: 2016 rookie salary is $450,000. There are 6 games remaining of the 16 total. $450k/16*6 = $168,750.
|18 weeks 1 day ago||This actually validates the||
This actually validates the "he would stay in SF for Sarah" line of thinking. If he was willing to leave Andrew Luck go to freaking Kansas because of her family, it's reasonable to think he would stay in SF because [edit: IF TRUE] she wanted to.
In 2014, either her desire to stay waned or his desire to head home to AA won out, but I think we probably discount how important her preference is. As others have said, Harbaugh thinks differently than others, and his decisions don't always "make sense" in our existing coaching decisions paradigm.

More fun facts: in the 16 seasons of the BCS (1998-2013 seasons) Kansas won as many BCS bowls as Michigan State.
|18 weeks 1 day ago||Kansas was only two seasons||
Kansas was only two seasons removed from the 12-1, Orange Bowl winning 2007 season. It wouldn't have been a total rebuild. They started 5-0 in 2009 before losing the last 7.
Fun fact I had forgotten until I read the Kansas football Wikipedia page: Fielding Yost was coach there for the 1899 season, before his 1900 season at Stanford, and of course coming to Michigan in 1901.

Interesting to see the change in Brian's writing over the last 11 years. Since this it's gotten more sophisticated and refined. Also he's adopted some internet snark, that was there but in a different way back in 2005. Also he was willing to be more personal back then, in a way I don't see as much nowadays. Bottom line is his writing talent is pretty special, was then and is now, and is the secret key to the MGoBlog success. Appreciate Brian Cook.
