South Florida stands are empty. Looks to be 100 degrees. But you would think there would be a packed house for a team that was believed to have had a chance to beat FSU.
Help!!! I have 2 tickets to the game tonight for myself and my son. We are leaving the Fort Wayne area as soon as he gets out of school at 3:00pm. The storm seems to be far worse to the north than it is the east. So, I'm thinking of heading NE on 24 to Toledo then up 23 to A2. I'm still planning on making the trip. Just hope I'm not making a poor decision...

Not too bad. My wife really liked it. But was a little sweet for me. I think it would taste real good after working outside on a hot summer day. I would definitely buy it again though.
My baseball team just played in a tournament with proceeds going to Breast Cancer Awareness. We had special jerseys made. 10 of 12 players had a close family or friend who had or is dealing with breast cancer. It's time we wind a way to beat it!
Alum96 I would love to sit down and talk soccer with you over a beer or six someday. Parents with young kids can learn a ton from those who have raised children and already been through it.
We live in Indiana. Things are organized a bit different around here. I didn't realize that select is still considered travel in Michigan. Select is a league that is between Rec and Travel here. Teams are mostly local and games are generally held at the same location each week. Cost is about $80 per season. Teams can be pretty good because a lot of the kids are good players who don't want to make the time, travel, and fiscal commitment to do travel.
My daughter plays for one of the top clubs in the state and definitely the best in the area. Fees start at around $1000 and increase as they get older and based on the level of team they play for.
As for my daughter's ability and the fact that she plays up, well I am a little bias! She is physically and mentally gifted for her age. I also realize that lots of things change as young girls mature. She knows that someone is always working hard to be better than her. But for now, she wants to be the best and I will do whatever I can to help her achieve her goals. If things change, I can always go back to hunting and fishing more often!
Does the club offer tryouts for other age groups at other dates? If your son really wants to play and the club is really interested, they will find a way to get him on a team. Also, some clubs are still practicing. Contact the club and see if he can attend a training.
This is great advise. I'm not in your area. But, my daughter's club recently played in a tournament in Novi. There are some really good clubs around there. I have played and coached soccer my entire life. I really don't think there is a huge difference between select and b level travel teams. At least around here... Your son is in the 7th grade. In my opinion it is now or never. He is either going to get serious about soccer or it is just going to be something he enjoys doing. Soccer is my 13 year old's 2nd favorite sport. He enjoys it and plays keeper for his middle school. He plays in a select league in the fall. But, it isn't his primary sport. It will keep him busy and out of trouble. If he sticks with it, he will probably earn a couple varsity letters while in high school. My 9 year old daughter is different. She is playing up 3 age groups and is playing at the highest level. We have made a substantial investment. My fingers are crossed that it will one day payoff with a scholarship!
Good luck in what you decide. Just remember you can never turn back time. While if you screw up and make the wrong decision, you can always say "oh well."
I am a believer of "you get what you paid for." I admit I have never rescued a dog. It is just my own preference to buy from a breeder.
The best advice I have is to match you lifestyle to the breed of dog you want. I was raised with labs. They are great dogs. Our first dog was a chocolate lab. He was a good dog. But just a bit too big for being in the house. He passed away and we had a real void in our lives. We decided that we wanted a smaller dog that was good with kids. I am a hunter and wanted to be able to hunt with this dog. We decided to go with a Brittany Spaniel.
Cabella is a great dog. She is crate trained. She loves to run. She minds both adults and kids. She has a lot of energy which is ok because of our 5 acres. She will play fetch until your arm falls off. She also loves to swim in our pond. I don't think I will ever own a different breed.
If you have ever trained a dog, you can relate. I would have to say that her first point and retrieve of a pheasant was just about as cool as the first time my son put one over the centerfield fence.

I am the father of a 12 year old son. This was a teachable moment that I pointed out to him. To me, it looks like Devin is praying with JT. Praying over your enemy in a time of crisis shows that Gardner is what every man would want his son to grow up to be. Someone who just made a difference.
Robinson is currently 44-4 as a sophmore at the 220lbs weight class in Indiana and will be wrestling in the individual high school state championship this Friday and Saturday. Indiana does not have a class wrestling system and takes 16 wrestlers per weight class to state. Robinson is currently ranked 3rd in the state at 220. 3 of his 4 losses have been to the #1 ranked wrestler. He does have one victory against over the #1. As a former wrestler and life long Indiana high school wrestling fan, I can tell you that it is not common to see a 10th grader ranked this high in a weight class that is normally dominated by seniors. If you would like to watch Gelen wrestle this weekend, go to www.broadcastsport.net. They broadcast the entire Indana state championship. Gelen should wrestle late in the evening on Mat 4.
