She's wearing the pants in that relationship. Okay, maybe she doesn't wear them often, but you know what I mean.

If he gets fired from A&M this year and our new coach needs an OC, then I'd take him in a heartbeat. He can certainly score points, but the guy has just never been able to field a defense, and it looks like he struck gold with having a guy like Manziel. That beat down on South Carolina looks less impressive each week simply due to the fact that South Carolina is a bad team this year.

Lewan shouldn't have put himself in that situation, granted, but any OSU fan that's dumb enough to hang out in an Ann Arbor bar, especially a student bar, right after the game and start running their mouth is going to get exactly what they deserve.

Well my first thought was hoping that everyone on MSU's team comes down with chronic diahhrea the day of the game. Seeing as how that's not very likely to happen, however, if I'm Hoke I'm assuming I may not be around long enough to coach the OSU game, so I throw the entire kitchen sink at MSU. Basically game plan how you did for OSU last year. Coach like you've got nothing to lose.
If I'm the defense, I try to find some way to get pressure on Cook. He seems like he's always really close to throwing 3-4 picks a game, especially last year, but somehow miraculously gets away with throwing maybe 1. Unleash JMFR, do whatever you have to do to get Cook on the ground.
If I'm the offense, line up in the shotgun and hope that MSU is so fixated on taking Funchess away that Darboh, Canteen, Chesson, etc. will have a chance to get open. The run game will be abysmal against MSU and we all know it. Have to hope that somehow our wideouts can get open enough times to make a couple plays.
Do whatever you have to do to strip the ball, force turnovers and set up a short field. If we're consistently forced to go more than half the length of the field against MSU, don't expect much of anything in the way of points.
Finally, play loose. No one in your own fanbase, much less the rest of the country, expects you to win, or even be competitive. There's minimal expectations. Play like you've got nothing to lose. At least show MSU you came to play and are going to match their intensity.

Harbaugh would do at least just as well. He may not be the "nice guy" Hoke is, but players would want to come play for him because they know he'd develop them and make them great talents. Look at what he did with Stanford. They were an absolute mess before he showed up. The same goes with the 49ers, who endured a decade of total ineptitude. He made Andrew Luck the #1 overall pick, and Colin Kaepernick isn't turning out too bad under Harbaugh's watch, either.

Just because the team has been abysmal doesn't change his potential, which I'm assuming is why he's still so high on draft boards. I'm hoping we get him back next year. Morris or Speight is going to need someone to throw the ball to, but if he's still projected this high, who here among us could honestly blame him if he left?

I have to imagine Funchess understands the importance of the rivalry, coupled with the fact that we're getting our asses kicked by them every year, but if this is his actual mentality towards playing MSU, it's no wonder that we get outmuscled and out-physicaled every single year. Again, I'm not in the locker room, so I don't know, but it's abundantly clear from MSU's players and coaching staff that this is not "just another game" to them. They prepare like it, too.

Of course it can happen. To my recollection, neither schools have had particularly good coaches both at the same time. If we land a home run hire after Hoke, I don't see why we can't catch up to Sparty in a year or two.

What about the Capital One Bowl in '08? We were an unranked 8-4 team going up against the almighty Urban Meyer and his golden boy Heisman winner Tim Tebow. I have to imagine the line for that game was Florida by at least 2 touchdowns.

Meh. Its rivalry week. Didn't we vandalize the Sparty statue last year or something like that?
Honestly, this doesn't bother me.
That being said, shouldn't those guys from Theta Xi be guarding the Diag?

Timing is a bit of an issue, but if we retain DB, you can throw any home run hire, and especially Harbaugh or Miles, right out the window. No coach worth his salt will want DB sitting in on their film sessions, and with the way DB essentially abandoned Hoke to fend for himself during the Shane Morris press conference, why would any coach want to subject themselves to that kind of treatment from their own boss?

Before Mark Dantonio dame along, Michigan State was an annual tune-up game for Michigan. They were a second-tier program compared to Michigan, and I'm assuming that mindset went into many of the players who played for MSU over the years. It also likely made Michigan complacent towards how they played and thought about MSU. They knew they were going to beat MSU, so they cared very little for them, and perhaps viewed them as a rival in name only. With complacency, there came no real drive to beat MSU, which may perhaps explain why we'd be losing to them in several games before we realized they were beating us. We could simply out-talent them and win. I'm not in the locker room, but that mindset may still linger amongst our players.

Gardner's made his share of mistakes on the field, but the offensive woes are certainly not all his fault. Hard to make plays if the opposing D-Line is in your backfield immediately following the snap. I would've loved to see what he could do with a competent offensive line protecting him. The ND and OSU games last year show that he's got some serious game when he's on. Had we won the OSU game last year, him playing that game on a broken foot and leading the game-winning drive would've been the stuff of legend. Not to mention that the OSU schadenfreude of losing to a QB with a broken foot would've been glorious.
I don't foresee things getting much better for him this year, if at all, but I hope someone gives him a shot in the NFL. He's proven that he's got the potential to play the position extremely well. I'm just hoping there's a team willing to take a chance on him, coach him up, and see what he can do. Hopefully he can land somewhere behind a Manning, Brady, or Brees-like QB and learn from them.

If we wait that long to hire a new AD and football coach, unless you get a Harbaugh level coach that kids will just flock to in the final 2-3 weeks before NSD, there will be no recruiting class to speak of. All but maybe 2-3 guys could jump ship, and no one wants to come here when they don't know what coach there is or what scheme they will be playing under. You think the void left by the departed 2010 class was bad? This could be a whole lot worse. I just don't see us taking that long to institute change.

I'd feel, dirty bringing a rival coach into Michigan, but if he won football games, I'd stop caring and shut my mouth.

Either 2004 or 2007. I'm not an old timer so I don't know about many older games before the 2000s, mostly because this game has always been one-sided with one school or the other. But watching Sparty build a lead, and then have us come back and snatch it from them was just amazing. There are few more demoralizing ways to lose to a rival than to blow a lead like that.

I think this is the game where Sparty puts on a complete game after the last few weeks. Dantonio will refuse to allow his team to sleepwalk through one second of this game.

Have you seen this team play road games? I'd be shocked, almost impressed if we kept it within 2 touchdowns.

Eh I don't know about giving us that kind of credit. Purdue is at least showing improvement week to week. We, if anything, regress each week.

Believe me, I'm begging Hoke and Co. to prove me wrong. I'd love for them to make me eat my words. But I've seen absolutely nothing out of Michigan for me to think that this game will be anything other than a blowout.

Seems fair, although I'd consider pegging Ole Miss ahead of FSU. I will give FSU credit for taking care of business last night, but Ole Miss just looks like the better team right now. They've performed consistently against good competition, and FSU largely hasn't.

MSU may be overrated, and their defense isn't what it was last year, but we've seen NOTHING out of Michigan to suggest that we have any chance of beating them on Saturday. The offense is still a mess, and the defense has zero playmakers. Dantonio will refuse to allow his team to sleepwalk through this game.
|4 days 19 hours ago||That's all well and good, but||
That's all well and good, but D-III is a far different animal than D-I. Can this guy handle the pressure of a big time school? Does he have any big time experience on any level at all? Coordinator? Position coach?
|4 days 19 hours ago||Were all the starters in the||
Were all the starters in the game? I don't know, I wasn't watching the game. But if they were, that could be a little douchey. But if you've got your 2nd and 3rd stringers in there, I don't see too much of an issue with this. What do you expect Meyer to do? Throw his backups in there and tell them to play nice? No, he wants to get them some playing time in game situations, and think about the fact that those backups are backups for a reason. They don't get to play much now, so when they do get the chance, they're going hard.

Even if ND wins tonight, they will get absolutely curb stomped by either MIss State or Ole Miss in the playoff. I'd reckon Bama would take them to the woodshed again too.
