If he can hire a good defensive coordinator I'm all for it. Big XII teams aren't traditionally touted for their defense these days.

Hoke may survive the season, but if we take a 58-0 clubbing against MSU like I'm thinking we might, he might not even get out of the parking lot without getting his pink slip.
As long as Brandon is gone so we can get a competent AD in here to hire a good coach, then I'm more or less okay with Hoke finishing the season with some dignity.

I see what you're saying, but bringing up how we were so successful from '69-'07 is why so many people talk about how we're living in the past.
|16 hours 28 min ago||It's a simple concept. If you||
It's a simple concept. If you pay MAC-level money, expect to get a MAC-level coach. Hoke is a good guy, but Michigan is getting exactly what it paid for. We've got just as much money, if not more money than any of the school's you've listed. We just need to decide to spend it. Bama is spending unholy amounts of money to keep Saban, but ask them to do it 100 more times and they'll gladly do it 100 more times, because that investment brings them national titles and several first round draft picks every year.

Les Miles - I'm inclined to say no, but its certainly a possibility. You can tell that he's got a special place in his heart for Michigan, but I'm just not sure he really wants to leave, especially at this stage in his career. He's got everything he could ever want in Louisiana. Then again, LSU fans are pretty fickle with him. I don't think he'd come here, but then again, he's called the Mad Hatter for a reason. Wouldn't shock me if the third time was a charm. I just don't know how big of an upgrade he'd be. Yeah recruiting would take off, but his offenses are never really THAT good, and he seems to lose a headscratcher game once or twice a year. But, if nothing else, our press conferences would be awesome compared to the mindless nonsense Hoke spouts every day now.
Jeremy Pruitt - Like you said, definitely an option if we want to go the young, energetic, albeit somewhat unproven route. I don't think he has any head coaching experience, although with being at Bama, FSU, and Georgia, he knows what it takes to be at a winning program. He's got several national title rings to prove that. Still, I'd rather see what he does with Georgia's defense throughout the season before I'd give him my stamp of approval. Georgia's defense isn't bad, but its not that good right now, either.
Phillip Montgomery - Don't know much about him, but with what he's been able to do with Baylor's offense over the past few years, I'd take a crack at him. Anything to spark something on offense. Hopefully he can get a good defensive coordinator, though. I'd really rather not have to win a bunch of shootout games.
Gus Malzahn - I'll admit, I laughed a good bit when I saw this one. You're crazy if you think Auburn would ever let him go. He might not be getting paid much now relatively speaking, but if we come calling, Auburn will ante up big time. Football is all Auburn has got, and they will not let Malzahn go after the amazing run they had last year. And as for the whole doesn't want to be in the same state as Saban, well, let's keep in mind that he's undefeated against him right now. I don't think he minds the competition one bit.
Jack Del Rio - I thought his one chance to ever coach college would be last year if USC came calling. Other than that, he's been with the NFL his whole career. I doubt he wants to trade all of that to come to a school he knows nothing about and start recruiting young kids. Could be wrong, but he's got the mark of a strictly NFL guy.

Definitely feel you on that one. Has another one of those BS luck of the Irish feels to it where Lou Holtz comes out afterwards and spits all over the camera when he says I told you so.
|18 hours 59 min ago||Yes I do remember them. And||
Yes I do remember them. And they're now ranked #9 in the country. They seem to be getting along just fine without those players, regardless of whether or not they're suspended for the year. I don't think they're winning a national title since they still have to go through Stanford, FSU and USC, the last two of which are on the road, but either way, I think Notre Dame is doing just fine without them.
|19 hours 26 min ago||If typical home run options||
If typical home run options aren't available, nor are the likes of Butch Jones (which I think prying him from Tennessee would be hilarious considering the fact that they've held a grudge against us for years over the Manning not winning the Heisman), what do people think about Craig Bohl? I've thrown his name around a couple of times, and I know he's a bit of a no-name, but it's not like that hasn't worked before. Our neighbors to the south tried that with a certain guy named Tressel, and I'd say that worked out for them nicely.
His resume is pretty darn impressive, even if just at the FCS level. 3 straight national championships, and even though he's currently at Wyoming, his old team is primed to run away with a 4th one. Winning a national title at any level is difficult, but 3 in a row? Come on, I don't care what level you're at: that's some damn good coaching, especially when you're trying to lure kids out to frickin North Dakota. One could make the argument that his resume is just as impressive, if not more impressive than Saban's.
He is the definition of a winner, and while he hasn't had to really ever deal with the pressure and expectations of being at a big program, he could be the guy that turns us around. I'm thinking he would jump at the chance to come here and prove himself at a high level.
He's a backup option, but he's not a bad one by any stretch.

Would anyone oppose if I wanted to slap the kid wearing the OSU sweatshirt upside the head?
I get it, man. You're voicing your opinion. But refusing to wear Michigan gear by wearing that horrid trash of OSU gear is just....I don't know. Part of me admires your enthusiasm, but the rest of me just wants to scream at you.
I don't like Hoke or Brandon anymore, but I'd never sink so low as to wear those horrible, disgusting colors. Just one man's opinion.

If I recall correctly, Sumlin didn't turn into a hot commodity until 2011, when we already had Hoke.
|1 day 16 hours ago||Winning would be nice,||
Winning would be nice, especially for the players, but honestly, even beating Rutgers doesn't have much clout, and I don't think it'll change many people's minds about Hoke or Brandon.
|1 day 18 hours ago||I just hope he doesn't think||
I just hope he doesn't think this is his fault.
You will get to play, Shane. And hopefully the next coach we bring in here can coach you better than the last one.
|1 day 18 hours ago||No one could've said it any||
No one could've said it any better. If Hoke gets canned and Brandon remains, there won't be a single qualfied coach in the country that will want to come here and work for that assclown.
Hoke is deserving of his share of criticism. The man is in over his head, and his press conferences involve watching him retreat into his turtle shell. His decision to leave Shane in the game is deplorable, and that alone may be enough to have him get his pink slip.
But Brandon....ugh I don't even know what to say about this guy anymore. Sends out that statement at 1am when no one will read it, and refuses to go to bat for the guy he hired. Say what you will about Hoke, but he didn't deserve to be the only one there walking into a minefield. What is that going to say to any qualified coach out there who might otherwise come to Michigan? That we've got an athletic director who will go into hiding and refuse to defend you when times get tough? Again, why would any coach, much less John/Jim Harbaugh, want to work for this man?
Its funny, I think I remember that when times were good with this football team, Brandon was everywhere. You could always catch him for quotes, see him at events, tweeting, yada yada yada. Sure as shit enough, now he's nowhere to be found.

Well said. When it comes to OSU, all a coach needs to do in order to "get it" is to beat Michigan.

We're likely a 2-4 win team in a shitty conference with a shitty coach who can't develop talent. He's a top D-Line recruit. Why would he want to come here with the turmoil that's been going on?

Meh. Won't matter when Hoke is fired midsession and bring in John Harbaugh as our head man.
|2 days 19 hours ago||Season is young, but thus||
Season is young, but thus far, his defense at Georgia hasn't been all that spectacular.
He could be a viable candidate if his defense really steps up, but I'd prefer someone with HC experience.
|2 days 19 hours ago||Pay the man, and get him out.||
Pay the man, and get him out. The cost of keeping him here goes way beyond $2 million. It goes beyond anything monetary. You're talking about a guy who's very presence damages our program's brand and perception. That $2 million is nothing compared to the damage of retaining Hoke will cause.

|2 days 21 hours ago||Well said, Brian. I have no||
Well said, Brian. I have no voting power for the board of regents, but if I did, I'd vote for you.
This program needs saving from itself. It has the potential to be truly great again. All the resources and support are there for this to happen. But its a program being held hostage by the very men who run it and are supposed to have its best interests in mind.
Hoke claims to love Michigan with all his heart. If that's truly the case, he should be spending today cleaning out his office. I know he wants this place to succeed, but his presence is a detriment to that success. He's too stubborn to admit that he's in over his head and that he's not the right man for this job. His presence and choices are creating one media firestorm after another. By the same token, Brandon is the same way about hiring Hoke. This was his personal hiring choice, and naturally, he's nowhere to be found for a quote or an interview. Everything comes down to dollars and cents for that man, and that is part of the job he took, but his attempt at creating a wow experience is just phony and tacky. I honestly get more enjoyment (sigh, I can't believe I'm saying this) out of watching the OSU band's halftime show than I do ours. Oh, wow, we got Beyonce to say "Go Blue"? Big f-ing deal. It was all lights and showing off.
I still love this team. I love our players, and I want to support them. They're doing everything they're being asked to do, even if its by an incompetent head coach with his head up his own ass. I will still be watching the games and supporting OUR PLAYERS, NOT OUR COACHES, but I understand Brian's unwillingness to head to the game. Sometimes, the best way to help something you love is to do exactly what you don't want to do.
Burn it down. Burn it all down. Start from the ground up. This program has been built on a strong foundation of entitlement and arrogance, both of which are completely unwarranted as of late. Not that they should ever be. It's hard to do this, but again, its for this program's own good. We need new life. New faces. Again, the resources are there, and so is the support. The hard part is making the choice to do it.
Here's to hoping Michigan gets this next one right.

Not possible. Good news doesn't exist on this board.
|3 days 12 hours ago||Not happening. I'm betting||
Not happening. I'm betting that he gets to finish the season, and if we finish without a bowl game, Hoke gets his pink slip on the Monday after the OSU game. If the season keeps going down the toilet, DB will start searching for a replacement sooner rather than later. Call him an egotistical SOB, but he knows how much money he stands to lose from donors and ticket sales if he keeps Hoke. Also, remember he played for this team. I guarantee he hates watching us lose just as much as the rest of us. If not moreso.
