Hire a good coach (preferably Harbaugh), stay out of his way, and continue bringing in money for the athletic department.

I wasn't referring to your post. I was referring to ihateMichigan's post about us finishing in fifth this year and Beilein being a whiner.

I'm sure you were saying the same thing last year, troll, and Beilein probably wiped the floor with your team anyway.

Welp, shit happens. We should know that by now after barely beating FSU this time last year, and then losing to Charlotte. I have complete faith in Beilein to get this team ready to play to its full potential come March. A few takeaways:

Win or lose tonight, man do I love watching a great Michigan team. They're not perfect by any stretch, but you can tell Beilein is one hell of a coach, and this team just does not quit.

All of the practices they've had this season have been great practices, but this week....oh, man...this is where our ability to practice finally peaks to its full potential.
|2 days 10 hours ago||I'll preface this by saying||
I'll preface this by saying that I'm not getting my hopes up about Harbaugh. I don't believe he's coming until he shows up at the podium with a copy of his signed contract and proclaims himself to be our next coach. I need that kind of proof. But I'll go ahead and bite....
Jim Harbaugh turned an NFL team that had been losers for a decade into Super Bowl contenders in one year. I'm not saying the same would happen here, but there's no reason that it couldn't. Barring a mass exodus of transfers, if he shows up there's no reason we can't compete for a conference title next year. All the talent is there to do it, and Harbaugh has shown he can turn things around immediately.
But here would be my expectations. First year, defense holds roughly status quo, and a marked improvement on the offensive side of the ball, especially at the QB position. Turn Morris/Speight into at least an effective game manager. O-Line is full of upperclassmen by then, so the line should be average to good, and with Green/Smith/Isaac, the running game should be good to very good. 8-9 wins, with a victory over either MSU or OSU, maybe a good bowl win, and I'd be happy to call his first season a success. I would give anything to watch Harbaugh do to Meyer next year what he did to Schwartz. Followed by a nice "Sorry I'm not sorry" at the post-game presser.
Second season is where I'd be hoping things really start to click. Maybe not a playoff contender yet, but the signs show we're getting closer to doing it. Again, at least one victory over a rival. QB position starts showing great signs, and Morris/Speight show the ability to take over games if need be. I'm hoping 10-11 win season and a New Year's Eve/Day Bowl Game invite.
Third season and beyond: Yearly conference title contender, semi-regular playoff contender, beating one or both of our rivals every year. We get back on even footing with OSU, and MSU starts showing signs that its getting put back in its place as the second-best program in the state.
Please, football gods, make this happen. Michigan has suffered enough.

The season is very, very young. And so is this team. We were having problems this time last year, too, and I'd say the year turned out alright.

Wasn't pretty for much of the night, but they got the W, and that's all that matters. But simply put, the team can't afford to have Walton and LeVert both go cold for much of the game and expect to win. Especially when it comes to conference play. But it's early in the season and this was the first real test the team faced. They'll undoubtedly get better as the year goes along, especially after going through a tough slate with Syracuse, SMU, and Arizona.

These are the kinds of games where we need LeVert and Walton to step up. Both have gone ice cold though. Doyle and consistent free throws are what's keeping us in this game.

My gut tells me that we can keep it close, because Indiana did last week, and they're basically as bad as we are. I want to believe that Hoke will empty out the playbook and, knowing this is the end for him, he will throw everything he possibly can at OSU in hopes of pulling out a miracle.
But its been gut-check time for him for weeks, and he's failed to respond. The defense might keep it close for the first half, but we'll be done in by horribly predictable play-calling, and a few all-too-familiar turnovers. It might be 21-10 at halftime, but the game will likely be busted wide open in the second half, something to the tune of 56-17. The defense just won't be able to hold anymore. Meyer knows he needs to pull out all the stops to get into the playoff. This guy isn't like Tressel, who would call the dogs off when the game is in check. He won't be afraid to debase and absolutely humilate us on national television. Meyer will channel his inner Woody, and will be the asshole that will go for two at the end of the game just because he can.
I will be at the game on Saturday. I was offered a ticket and I'll be damned if I don't support this team to the bitter end. But I'm already settling in for what will be a very long day.
|3 days 9 hours ago||He may not be as bad, but||
He may not be as bad, but perhaps the better question would be if he's much better. So far, we have no reason to believe he's better than Gardner in any way. It's a limited sample of playing time, sure, but nothing I've seen from Morris convinces me that he's that much better than Gardner, or any better at all.

Great catch, but after seeing Odell Beckham Jr.'s amazing catch last night against the Cowboys, Denard's catch will undoubtedly get lost in the tape.
|3 days 11 hours ago||As you pointed out, this team||
As you pointed out, this team will go only as far as whoever is playing QB can take us. Certainly a lot can change, but Morris has given us very little reason to believe (so far) he's going to pan out. Then again, with the right coaching (perhaps even Harbaugh's tutelage, if he comes here), Morris could very well live up to his recruiting ranking. The potential is absolutely there. But if not, maybe it'll be time to give Speight the reins.
The defense should be alright as long as we get a sound defensive coordinator. There's a lot of talented guys there with a lot of playing time and experience. The running back stable is filled, even with Weber decommitting. The O-Line will be full of 4-5 star upperclassmen who, with the right coaching, should finally start hitting their stride. It could be average, dare I say even good next year. Wide receivers could be good to very good with guys like Darboh, Canteen, Harris, and potentially Funchess if he comes back.
Again, most positions could turn out just fine next year as long as we get a good coach. The talent is all there barring any mass exodus of transfers. The problem is just that we have no QB right now, so that means we could go anywhere from conference contender to scraping by just to make a bowl game.

What difference would it have made? Even if Maryland doesn't attempt a long field goal to put the game on ice, that still likely pins us deep in our own territory with under a minute to go. There was nothing about our offense on Saturday that had me convinced we could've gone the length of the field and tied the game.
It would've just prolonged the inevitable.
