Might want to change the thread title. I opened this thinking MSU and Western were playing in the Championship today, meaning we lost to one of them yesterday and I didn't even know about it.

Hoping someone can help me

Hoping someone can help me out here, but the thread from the other day requesting a picture of NC State's bench so that he could give his dad a gift of his courtside seats had me thinking.  My dad and I have been fortunate to attend quite a few notable  Michigan events over the years and I was going to make a collage of pictures of the two of us at those events.  One such event that we didn't take a picture at was the Frozen Four from two years ago, however, I remember that ESPN2 caught my dad and I singing the Victors after one of the Michigan goals.  Would anyone know how to find a video of that game so that I could screencap that picture?  That would be awesome!

Merrill, the same guy who was

*delete, damn double post*

Merrill, the sane gauy who was

Merrill, the same guy who was at skeeps on Tuesday neck brace and all, is not the answer to all our problems. Will he contribute to a stronger back line? Sure. But what I see right now is a team not willing to play team defense, meaning forwards back checking and defense cleaning up our own zone first. When you throw in freshman tendys, that's a recipe for disaster. It's gonna take one of the leaders to lay down the gauntlet about team defense first before (if ever) this season will turn around.

For as much love as Denard,

For as much love as Denard, Trey and some others get on this board lately,I think we've all been incredibly fortunate to watch one of the great goalies in Michigan history over the last few years. His last answer in that presser is a perfect example of why he's just a great ambassador for the hockey program and why we're going to sorely miss him next year.

Mayock is far and away the

Mayock is far and away the best. I get so annoyed of the childish arguing between Kiper and McShay. NFL network as a whole does a much better job of their draft coverage.

Angry Michigan Secondary

Angry Michigan Secondary Hating God turned into Angry Michigan Hockey God as soon as you posted this comment. Do not upset the hockey gods, ever.

You sir, can go fuck

You sir, can go fuck yourself. There's a difference between being completely gassed and lazy. I'd be willing to bet that you've never accomplished half of what these kids just did. They just laid it on the line for our school and lost to a team that played better. Kindly fuck off and never comment on Michigan hockey again.

I'm pretty sure that the

I'm pretty sure that the NFLPA has no standing to force these rookies to do anything for two reasons.  The first being, that technically the NFLPA is no longer a union and is simply a trade association.  Once they de-certified the NFLPA as it was before ceased to exist.  Two being, these players have yet to sign pro contracts, so technically they're not even part of the NFLPA to begin with.  It seems extremely selfish to me that the players association is using these kids as pawns to try and gain more leverage when the only people actually being harmed are the players.  I hope they tell the NFLPA to shove it and show up anyway, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Would love that, but I think

Would love that, but I think a certain Mr. Sullinger has that award just about wrapped up at this point.

Ahh, makes sense now.  My

Ahh, makes sense now.  My thought process went Big House, Michigan, Saturday, and just went straight to football.  Yes, that makes more sense now.

I don't necessarily think

I don't necessarily think that you'd want to tinker with the date of the game too much.  For one, it would be a HUGE risk to assume that the weather would be cold enough to do this after a Michigan home game.  I think that mid-December like they did for the Big Chill is about the absolute earliest you could feel comfortable that you're going to have cold enough weather to keep the ice in good shape.

I also think that there's something to be said for the tradition aspect of playing the game on New Years day.  Granted the marketing person in me doesn't think that going up against football bowl games is the brightest idea, for those who are actually at the game New Years day appears to be a great traditional element to it.

I'm sure they play the

I'm sure they play the American anthem whenever they play an American team.  Considering the vast majority of teams are American, I'm sure that's why they have those traditions.  Whenever a Canadian team comes to the Joe or when the Raptors play at the Palace the Canadian anthem is indeed played.

I don't think there's much of

I don't think there's much of a chance we do anything at the deadline. We're right up against the cap and have some guys coming back from injuries that will have the same effect as a trade. If we do make a move it won't be for anything more than a veteran 4th line, Dallas Drake type, but even that's unlikely.

Obviously it sucks for the

Obviously it sucks for the kid, but at the same time he's a rookie defenseman who's been struggling.  I think if you were to look at this without the maize colored glasses on it wouldn't really be an issue.  Part of the reason he's been struggling is his decision making, and putting a young kid in an environment where he may be over excited isn't the right combination for someone struggling with his decision making with the puck.

I feel for the kid, but this is the NHL.  I've been extremely impressed with how quickly Kampfer has adjusted to the league though, it's just needing to get that consistency down at this point.

Red Berenson.

Other women's

Red Berenson.

Other women's coaches? There's that guy at UConn who is pretty good...

I've got to be honest here,

I've got to be honest here, as much as I love Lidstrom and everything he's done for the Wings, in no way is he one of the top two players in the entire league right now.  He's a top 3 defenseman, but I'd put guys like Ovechkin and Stamkos ahead of Lidstrom, and maybe even a guy like Doughty in LA.

Just a guess, but could it

Just a guess, but could it have been "The ref's have lost control"?  I've noticed they do that at B-Ball games, maybe it got taken to the Joe?

Missing Merrill definitely

Missing Merrill definitely hurt.  The team responded well after falling down one in the third, but our PP continues to worry me.  We're having a hard enough time getting the puck into the zone, let alone establishing anything substantial on the PP.  It'll be interesting to see what happens with the goalie situation when Hogan returns.  Tonight may not have been pretty, but Hunwick has played a lot better lately and continues to get W's.  All in all good tourney all things considered, not to mention it doesn't hurt our spot in the pairwise to win a non-conference game against a solid opponent in CC.

Here for the posbang?

Here for the posbang?

I'm looking at U-Verse as

I'm looking at U-Verse as well.  From what I saw, It's an extra $15 monthly to add an HD-DVR to a bundle with U 100, but if you upgrade to the U-200 (which is something like $14 more), you get an HD-DVR included.  The way I looked at it was for the cost of an HD-DVR with U-100, you can get another hundred channels and save a dollar by just going with the U-200.  Hope this helps.

If I understand this

If I understand this correctly, that means that we will not be playing Ohio State every year, only on a rotation with the other divisions?  Yeah, that's not going to fly.

Carriker

Carriker missed all of last season with injuries, and hasn't really been that big of a contributor in his time as a Ram. While trading him creates another opening for the Rams, I don't necessarily think it means that they'll take Suh first. The Rams also got rid of Bulger earlier this year, so they still have a GAPING hole at quarterback. If they feel like Bradford is the man, they'll still take him.

Glenn Winston

Glenn Winston disagrees about a "lack of explosion"

I agree that the defense is

I agree that the defense is playing poorly, but a lot of why Phoenix is scoring more has to do with the tempo of these games as well. The wings are a skilled team and like to play a puck possession, up tempo game. Being that these games are being played at that pace, goals are going to come at a higher pace.

And if you actually look at the goals that were scored today, the only goal Howie would have liked to have back is the last one. Was it a soft goal? Maybe, but he also made some big saves that bailed the team out. Osgood hasn't won a game in 2010, his last was December 12. Howard's playoff save percentage is still higher than Osgood's regular season save percentage, and looking at the goals, there are really only a few Howard had any real chance on.

Had Osgood played a bigger role down the stretch, I'd maybe think about throwing him in there to see if it jump starts the team, but Howard was the man at the end of the season for a reason. The Wings were the hottest team in the NHL post olympic break, and Howard played in all but a couple of the games. He earned the job, and it should be his for the rest of the playoffs, barring a complete and utter collapse in game 4.

My fault on the grammar

My fault on the grammar mistake. My fingers were working faster than my thoughts. And I'm not saying that we should accept the mistakes that the refs make, but bitching over and over about quick whistles isn't going to change anything. I was simply implying that as fans of Michigan sports, we should know that a quick whistle is part of hockey.

As a former goalie myself, I know that refs tend to give goalies the benefit of the doubt on a whistle, especially in a physical playoff series like this to try and keep the goalies from getting hacked and whacked after a puck is legitimately covered up. When a ref gets burned like what happened today, they tend to wait that extra second before blowing the whistle.

I'm not condoning it, just recognizing that it's part of the sport and while it seems like the Wings/Michigan get burned far too often, in the end it all evens out.

Nabakov

Some of the other posters were complaining about Howard's play...has there ever been a better regular season goalie, who has routinely choked in big games than Nabakov? Look at how he played against Canada in the Olympics and his playoff history. Without good goaltending, you just can't win in the playoffs, and the Sharks prove that better than any team in recent memory.

Really?

The panic level right now is unbelievable.

1) 1 of 4 on the pp, while not good, is not bad.

2) Bryzgalov is actually that good. If you watched him play at all over the season you would know that. He is one of the most underrated goalies in the league, and if he were playing anywhere but Phoenix he would be getting a lot more attention than he is.

3) That's hockey. Deal with it, it sucks but as a Michigan fan we should be used to the quick whistle.

4) Howard is the least of the concerns right now. You're complaining about his GAA? Really? Did you watch the game on Friday night? I have never seen a more up-tempo game in my life, when a game is being played at that pace, goals are going to happen. Yeah, Howard is capable of stepping up his game to another level, but even with Osgood in net, the series would still be 2-1 Phoenix. Howard was the man all season, no need for knee jerk reactions.

5) I think you are drastically under estimating just how good this Phoenix team is. They are a very, very skilled hockey team. They play hard, gritty, and have a lot of speed. Teams like that, combined with great goaltending from Bryzgalov, go very far in the playoffs. Outside of the Wings, Phoenix was the HOTTEST team in the NHL since the Olympic break. Give them some credit.

Thankfully Babcock is the best in the business and won't have the same knee jerk reactions.

I found it interesting

Personally, I found the Gruden clips to be really interesting. To see the different kinds of coaching these college QB's have received, and then watching them break down film with Gruden is an interesting look into what the draft process might entail. Say what you will about Gruden as a coach, but the man does know his QB's.

As someone who lives in Minnesota

It's about time that the Twins got an outdoor park. I find it interesting though that it is one of the smallest parks in the country. Definitely an improvement over the dump they played in for the last 20+ years. Also refreshing to see that they're opening up the purse string a little bit too. Carl Pohlad was one of the wealthiest owners in baseball, yet had one of the lowest pay rolls in the league. Good to see that with the new park they're willing to spend a little bit. Scary to think if they had been able to keep Hunter and Santana.

This has been happening a lot

This has been happening a lot more in hockey lately. Minnesota has had a couple of kids accelerate their graduation to get into school a year sooner, Jordan Schroeder and Aaron Ness a couple of years ago and this upcoming year they have Nick Bjugstad coming in. All of these kids are high NHL draft prospects so there is a precedent in hockey.

Next Season

As noted above, there shouldn't be any significant player losses this year, outside of Summers. With the rectuiting class we have coming in, there's no reason we shouldn't be much better next year. I'm curious to see how the goalie situation will play out. I know that we were recruiting a couple of goalies, but that was pre-Hunwick playing out of his mind. I say stick with what we have for one more season, let Hogan and Hunwick battle it out, and may be best man win the job in the end.

I'm of the opinion that I

I'm of the opinion that I don't want the refs, or NCAA for that matter, to have any preferences as to who goes to the Frozen Four when officiating a game. Yes, the call was blown, but I would like to thinnk that the financial repercussions of making a certain call don't even cross the minds of officials and that all they are thinking about is trying to get it right.

That being said, I hope that Ford Field isn't empty. While I'm sure attendance would have been higher had Michigan made it, it looks bad for Detroit/Michigan as a hockey market if we can't provide decent attendance to Frozen Four. I know if you put it in Minneapolis or St. Paul, the place would be packed regardless of who is playing. Hopefully we can represent the state well as a hockey market.

That's Sports

As much as this loss sucked, which was a lot, that's what makes it all that much sweeter when you do win. The run the boys went on was unbelievable, all with a walk-on goalie playing out of his mind. Barring any unforseen departures, this team should be back next year mostly in tact and poised to go on another run. It'll be interesting to see how the goalie rotation will play out next season between Hunwick and Hogan.
