If you look at the parking map, you'll see that Fan Fest is just to the north of the stadium.  Parking Lot 1 is north of that, and it's east of Parking Lot 6.

There's a fanfest that…

From the Rose Bowl website: "A free and open to the public fanfest takes place on game day beginning at 8:00 AM. Activities include interactive game, music, TV’s and more. Food and beverages will be available for purchase."

Pescadero's comments don't account for the privacy rights of the victim, which are part of public disclosure and FOIA regulations, and which outweigh the rights of the public to see the materials.  The university has made documents public that support the actions taken -- they're never going to disclose the evidence in further support of that unless (1) the victim consents and/or (2) it's disclosed as part of a criminal proceeding.  With respect to the possibility of disclosure in a criminal proceeding, if Weiss is charged and doesn't want the details disclosed (and there are many reasons why he would want the details to remain out of the public eye), he'll plead to a minor offense (a misdemeanor, perhaps) and/or enter into a first-time offender diversion program that expunges any conviction -- likely worst case scenario for him is a fine and/or community service, and it's highly doubtful the public will ever know what email accounts were accessed or what was done with them, even if media outlets sue the university to attempt to obtain the materials (which they probably won't get for the reasons set out above).

It'll be 7a, since Hawaii doesn't do daylight savings.  Local alumni club gets together for big games on Oahu, but nothing I know of on Maui.  Moved around a bit since the pandemic, but last year, The Game and the B1G Championship were at Skybox Taphouse in the International Marketplace in Waikiki.  Naturally, bars are used to opening early for football -- huge football fans here in Hawaii.

Pretty sure the previous record was 12 set in the 1998-99 season -- Tariq Abdul-Wahad (f/k/a Olivier Saint-Jean), Maceo Baston, Gary Grant, Juwan Howard, Terry Mills, Glen Rice, Eric Riley, Jalen Rose, Maurice Taylor, Robert Traylor, Loy Vaught and Chris Webber.  It was matched again 2 years later (2000-01) in Jamal Crawford's first season (in place of Eric Riley).  Mills and Grant retired the following year.

For my senior seminar in the fall of 1990, I worked with a small group on the filming of a documentary about the debate over the demolition of the old Tiger Stadium (which, as we know, eventually happened albeit 18 years later).  We conducted a lengthy interview with Coach Freehan in his office at the university.  He was very generous with his time, and candid on camera for our shoot.  A true gentleman.  He will be missed.

Quick answers to multiple…

Quick answers to multiple questions about eligibility:

1) Graduation from college is a factor in consideration for admission, but not a requirement to be a nominee or a member of the HOF.  The only objective criterion is that a player must have been a first-team All-American on one of the NCAA recognized organizations.  So, a former player could easily be an NFL HOF but not in the college HOF if that player was never an All-American.

2) Eligibility for players starts 10 years after that player's last year of college football.

3) Eligibility for players ends 50 years after that player's last year of college football (although there are committees that could admit a player after that period expires).

I covered the women's team…

I covered the women's team for the Daily in 1990, and the biggest win prior to this one was at Oklahoma State, the previous highest seeded team beaten (and first NCAA tournament win) in school history.  That team was coached by Bud VanDeWege, whose family owned the old Moe's Sports Shop.  No budget from the Daily to go to Stillwater (not surprising, since (a) they had never gone to the tournament before and (b) it was 1990), but Ted Cox was smart enough (read: smarter than me) to call the Freep and sell them the story to pay for his trip.  Shout out to Ted if he's reading this!  Congrats to the team on making the Sweet 16!

Not that anyone cares, but…

Not that anyone cares, but this is a terrible headline.  Gonzaga, yes, but Baylor?  They have a first and a third teamer, and one honorable mention among a laundry list of guys (that include Livers and Wagner).  Illinois has a first and a second teamer.  I just don't see how anyone can reasonably say that the AP teams are "dominated" by Baylor in any way other than clickbait.  Illini fans probably apoplectic about this, given how sensitive they clearly are over titles.

The complete statement is…

The complete statement was traditionally "THANK YOU FOR BEING PART OF THE LARGEST CROWD WATCHING A FOOTBALL GAME ANYWHERE IN AMERICA TODAY."

I was there, and it was…

I was there, and it was glorious.  First time a team went from No. 4 to No. 1 when the top 2 teams in the country (Nebraska at No. 1 and Florida St. at No. 2) also won.

7 years earlier, but who's…

7 years earlier, but who's counting.  The Bieniemy 5th down TD was in 1990, a week before the infamous game against State where Michigan "lost" as the No. 1 team in the country (with a 3-1 record already -- imagine a team today being No. 1 with a loss in their first 4 games!) to a horrible PI no-call on an Elvis-to-Desmond 2 point conversion try for the win.  The 1990 team was fantastic and should have won a national championship.  Oh, well.

The answer is probably yes…

The answer is probably yes and no, but more no than yes.  To put it into perspective, in 2018, Shea had the 8th most completions in a season in Michigan history.  He's on pace for slightly less this year, but could easily match or beat the number with a big day throwing the ball in just 1 game.  Yet, because there are so many good options, those passes get spread around far more than in days when only 1 or 2 receivers were in a pattern.  Plus, because offenses in general are more explosive in today's game, it just seems like he isn't throwing enough or to the right guys.  Bottom line is that Michigan has far more potentially great receivers on this unit than almost any other unit in the past, and there's only 1 ball to go around.  That said, Nico is probably the best of the bunch and should get more looks.

Conspiracy to commit bribery…

Conspiracy to commit bribery is a federal crime.  In full disclosure, I am an attorney, but don't practice in the criminal area.  That said, the elements of the crime are all present.  It's just a matter of whether the U.S. attorney's office believes there's enough evidence to convict, or if they want to pursue charges.  They could also use him as a pawn to turn on bigger fish or to serve as a witness in other cases that they believe are more important.

This is mostly quotes from…

This is mostly quotes from the FBI tape as reported by ESPN.  This is pretty strong evidence that he committed a crime and since they're his own words, he is clearly implicating himself:

"Dude," Wade continued during the call, "I went to [the handler] with a [expletive] strong-ass offer about a month ago. [Expletive] strong.

"The problem was, I know why he didn't take it now. It was [expletive] tilted toward the family a little bit. It was tilted toward taking care of the mom, taking care of the kid. Like it was tilted towards that. Now I know for a fact he didn't explain everything to the mom. I know now, he didn't get enough of the piece of the pie in the deal."

"It was a [expletive] hell of a [expletive] offer," Wade continued. "Hell of an offer. ... Especially for a kid who is going to be a two- or three-year kid."

In a different telephone call with Dawkins, Wade joked that the player would be compensated more than the "rookie minimum."

Wade told Dawkins that he had made deals for "as good of players as him" that were "a lot simpler than this."

The book "The 100-Yard War"…

The book "The 100-Yard War" published in 2004 refers to it as "the Game" in several instances.  So it's at least as early as that.

Also, the book co-authored by Bo and Mitch Albom ("Bo") published in 1989 makes no reference to it as anything other than the Michigan-Ohio State game.  If it was truly called "the Game" at that time, it unquestionably would have been referred to as such in this book.  So, it's clearly somewhere between 1990 and 2004.

Because I have too much time…

Because I have too much time on my hands, I looked at the schedules of all teams in calendar 2018.  Including events with multiple teams participating (such as conference championships), Michigan holds a record of 33-5 against Michigan State in all sports, with no Spartan team winning more than once against Michigan.  There are only 2 sports (Men's Cross Country and Women's Golf) where Michigan lost the only meeting between the schools.  Here's the breakdown:

MEN (18-2)

Baseball - 4-0

Basketball - 2-0

Cross Country - 0-1

Football - 1-0

Golf - 2-1

Hockey - 3-0

Swimming & Diving - 2-0

Tennis - 1-0

Track & Field - 1-0

Wrestling - 2-0

WOMEN (15-3)

Basketball - 1-1

Cross Country - 1-0

Field Hockey - 2-0

Golf - 0-1

Gymnastics - 2-0

Rowing - 1-0

Soccer - 1-0

Softball - 2-1

Swimming & Diving - 2-0

Tennis - 2-0

Track & Field - 1-0

With a qualifier....

The exception to what I said above pertains to students outside SE Michigan.  From underrepresented counties, I do believe the university would go out of its way to admit a student that is on the periphery of the typical qualifying characteristics.  However, every candidate must be considered qualified in order to be admitted.  In the end, the numbers come to similar averages, espeically when comparing kids from the typical SE Michigan schools that apply and those from out of state.  Best comparison to the UP kids would be kids from underrepresented states as well -- if you're from Wyoming, you're more likely to get in than if you're from NYC, for example.

False

Your assumption is false.  While the rates of acceptance are higher in-state, the average candidate that is accepted is materially not different in-state from out-of-state.  The average GPA and board scores tend to be very similar.  I have this on direct authority from the admissions office.

Misinformation

There's a ton of misinformation in the answers to this post, as well as incorrect assumptions in the OP.

Bottom line is that Michigan now receives a record number of freshman applications -- 65,000 this year -- with an enrollment total that is also as high as it's ever been -- about 6,600.  The end result is a class that is very close to 50/50 in-state and out-of-state.  The admission rate comes to approximately 27%, but the in-state admit rate is significantly HIGHER than the out-of-state rate due to the fact that between 75-80% of the applications come from out-of-state students.  The in-state acceptance rate is somewhere in the mid 40% range.

While in-state students get accepted at a much higher rate, the number of out-of-state students admitted is still notably higher than those that are in-state.  They get to a 50/50 enrollment rate because the yield (admitted students who enroll) is also much higher in-state than out-of-state (I believe stephenrjking said as much above).  The admissions office is very good a projecting these things to get the end result that they want.

It is a known concern within the university community that many students from outside SE Michigan feel that they either can't get in, can't compete once they're in, or can't afford it.  All of these things are actually untrue.  As noted, the acceptance rate in-state is much higher than it is for the rest of the country/world.  Plus, Michigan actively seeks students from under-represented counties in-state, so the likelihood of a less qualified student getting in from the UP (for example) is quite higher than a kid from Southfield or Bloomfield Hills.  The Go Blue Guarantee covers the cost issues as noted in the original reply to this OP.  As for competition, you never really know until you get there, but there's no reason to think that any remotely qualified candidate can't do well at Michigan.

So, for those of you in the more remote counties of Michigan, you're encouraged to apply and should assume you'll have all the resources you need from the university to succeed in college and beyond.  Go Blue!

I had seen that tweet earlier in the week so I didn't mention it in my post, but I hadn't considered the possibility of it being an NCAA violation.  A much more interesting angle than my effort to instill a *tiny* bit of humor into an otherwise un-noteworthy clickbait story.

QB hot takes

While I agree with the hot takes all over this board that neither Speight nor O'Korn are QBs that will make anyone reading this post happy, the biggest issue is the inability of the OL to provide any semblance of pass protection. Stick anyone behind that line and the result will likely be the same -- Devin Gardner-level PTSD is practically inevitable. Until that's fixed -- and it's hopefully just a year away -- this is what we can expect from the offense.

I invited John Bacon to speak

I invited John Bacon to speak to the NJ alumni club during his Endzone book tour, and when he came in November 2015, he not only told us then that he was working on this book, but he actually brought John Saunders with him to our event.  John Saunders was a very quiet, reserved man -- far different from the personality that we all saw on TV -- and he seemed extremely uncomfortable even in the most basic of casual conversations (though he was certainly very nice and humbled by the minor attention we were giving him).  I learned a bit about him and his brother from our short time together (with John Bacon as his key spokesperson), and I can't imagine that this book will be anything short of a fascinating read.  I was sad to hear of his passing just 9 months after meeting him. Looking forward to getting a copy to read more about his story.

Family tree

My wife is (allegedly) distantly related to Jesse James who, as we know from the Brady Bunch, is nothing but a cold-blooded killer. Someone on her side did a family tree that goes back several generations.

Long List...

Spent an hour listening to Bo and Anthony Carter tell stories in a U-M suite in NYC before Carter's induction into the College Football HOF.  An unbelievable evening with less than 20 people -- count my blessings to have had that opportunity.

Interviewed Desmond Howard for The Daily.

Played in a pick up game with Glen Rice.  Never touched the ball.  Not once.  Did set a screen for him and got totally run over.  Yes, it hurt, and yes, he made the shot.

Also played in a pick up game with Pete Carroll when he was with the Jets.  All elbows.  Would like to see him play in a game with the Harbaugh family -- just as competitive.

Met Bill Bradley when working for a gubernatorial campaign in NJ.

Met freshmen Chris Webber and Jalen Rose, who came to my fraternity house at my invitation for a pep rally with Steve Fisher and captain Freddy Hunter.

Interviewed Evander Holyfield as an intern for SI.

Hung out with Conan O'Brien back stage after a show.  Just as funny off camera.  Also chatted with Max Weinberg for a while that same evening.

Bought Neil O'Donnell a beer after he joined the Jets following the Super Bowl year with the Steelers.  He bought me and my friends a round in return and BS'd with us for a bit.  Drunk as a skunk.

Sat between two members of Spirogyra on a flight once.  Middle seat awkwardness, but they were pleased to know I knew their band.

Spent a lot of time talking to Bert Sugar and invited him to speak to the local U-M club in NJ (which he accepted).  Tremendous story teller.

Lots of others in passing, but not counting a simple "hello".  That seems like more than enough for now....

My main takeaway

Josh Norris isn't great at pull-ups.  /s

No surprises

Again, old data is old, but even if the data had been updated, it wouldn't be much different.  Bottom line -- there are as many FBS players in Florida, Texas, Georgia and California as there are in the other 46 states and DC combined.  This is precisely why the SEC hates satellite camps -- they believe that everyone down there is theirs, and to say otherwise is hypocritical.

The awesomeness

The awesomeness of this post is awesome.  From now on, everything I don't like is "for showboats and the soft."

Mac Lozer & Jackson Lamb

Looking at the stats for these guys, and in 46 combined appearances over 51 innings, they have not allowed an earned run this year.  That's just crazy!  Go Blue!
