I remember very well, and the heckling wasn't so overwhelming as to disrupt or alter his speech, which wound up being rather unremarkable. He tried too hard to parallel Johnson's "Great Society" speech, which was also at a Michigan commencement, with his references to a "Good Society," and it fell flat. It was a nice day, though, and an honor to have the POTUS delivering a message to the graduates, no matter your political persuasion, something I'm afraid our society is almost incapable of respecting today with its extremist partisan attitudes. But I also don't want this to morph into a political (read: taboo) discussion. My point is simply that of course there were protestors -- it is Michigan -- and hecklers, but it wasn't overwhelmingly throughout the speech.

I'm a '91 graduate, when George H.W. Bush was the speaker as the current POTUS. That was pretty cool. Most years are good, but there's always the off year when it's someone less spectacular. Such is life. I have a hard time believing that the commencment ceremony will be weak in any respect, so just go and enjoy yourselves. You'll be wishing you could go back for the rest of your lives.

If Wagner and Wilson both get into foul trouble, that's a huge problem. Can't do without Walton for long stretches either. Otherwise, crash the boards and pray that we miss shots.

One summer, I interned at SI and made over $350 a week (this was 25 years ago) -- work week was Thursday, Friday, Sunday (until midnight) and Monday. That same summer I worked nights for a feature service that sold stories to the Newark Star-Ledger -- made $70 a night and $70 a story (and I wrote 4 stories that were published). Worked a lot, but that was a ton of money for a college kid back then. Fun summer.

Excellent call on Barber. I would swap Cosell for Michaels, but otherwise agree with your list. Michaels goes on the second tier only because there are just 4 slots.

People always forget the old school broadcasters that they never heard live when making these lists. My first team all Mt. Rushmore is:

Va Tech beat Texas -- Jim Druckenmiller vs. James Brown ("The hardest working man in the Southwest Conference") in what I believe was the last game in the history of the SWC.
Latter game was Hawaii bombing UAB in the June Jones era. They hit the over in the 2nd quarter -- always fun when Hawaii is in the game. Plus, it's Hawaii, so there's that.

Some of these predictions make zero sense. There's no possible way that Ohio State gets left out of the playoff. They're No. 2 already and just beat No. 3. This is a done deal, folks.
The only debate is which conference champs other than Alabama get in. It'll be interesting if Clemson and Washington both win to see who gets left out between those 2 and the winner of Penn State-Wisconsin. I'd put Wisconsin as 50-50 to get in over Washington, but Penn State's odds would be low. I think they get left out, and there will be screaming from Happy Valley about it, somewhat rightfully so.
Obviously, if just one of Clemson and Washington should lose, the committee's job will be easy, regardless of the noise that the Big 12 and the ACC/Pac 12 loser will make. What would be very interesting is if Clemson, Washington AND Oklahoma all lose. Does the committee have the guts to put 3 Big Ten teams in the final 4, given that the next best team would be Colorado, which everyone knows Michigan pasted early in the season? Highly improbable that 3 teams from the same conference would go to the semi-finals, as there would be a revolt everywhere else in the country. Oklahoma State probably doesn't have the resume to get into the top 4 either, even with a win over Oklahoma in that ultimate chaos scenario. Would be fun to see it, though, to watch the committee squirm. Imagine a final 4 of Alabama, Ohio State, Big Ten champ and Colorado -- Michigan beat 2 of the 4 and lost to a third in a controversial 2OT finish. I think Harbaugh's head, and MGoBlog, will explode if it happens....

Tier 2 has OSU (which should be in Tier 1 -- they are the No. 2 team in both polls and won't drop if they don't lose), Wisconsin and Washington.

I watch the majority of the games that are important to me on delay when the family goes to bed, and pick and choose the few really important ones to watch live. I still try to go to games in person -- get to Ann Arbor at least once a year -- but even for local teams, it's far less frequent than it was 20 years ago.

If you're referring to the reference to "the final tally" in the article you linked, that wasn't a reference to the score, but rather the number of possible recruits that showed up. 200 were expected, but less may have showed up due to the rain.

The reason nobody remembers this happening during a Buckeyes game is because it's only done by the home team's band when the road team's band isn't there. It's a courtesy for the away team's fans that don't have a band of their own at the game, and the RU band leader said that the same courtesy had been extended to their fans at other Big Ten games when their band didn't travel.

Why do you even care about this? I was there, and I thought it was a classy move on their band's part. They played their fight song right after ours. Got a nice hand from us in one of the (many) Michigan sections.

In case I wasn't clear, a benefit of buying these tickets is that there is absolutely NO risk associated with them -- you're purchasing directly from the ticket office, so it's not a secondary source. For any other AA members other than you that might be interested, the block has just 13 tickets left in it -- first come, first served.

|25 weeks 6 days ago||Tickets||
If you're a member of the Alumni Association, the NYC-area clubs have tickets left in their block. These would be purchased directly from the Michigan Ticket Department, but can only be bought by members of the AA. Tickets are $70 each, plus a $10 processing fee for the order, so $220 for 3 seats together in the corner end zone.
If you're in the AA and interested, send me your contact info and I'll send you the info you need to purchase the tickets. FYI, the deadline to buy for the Maryland game through this program is a week from Friday.
