I really appreciate the mailbag/Q&A section. Great music selections. Audio feedback: Ace's voice volume drops to almost nothing after each music fade.

I like sad songs in bunches. I like how the first three songs on Beatles for Sale were darker than any of the love and pop songs on their earlier albums (No Reply, I'm a Loser, and Baby's in Black). The second side of Bob Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited is epic sadness (Queen Jane Approximately, Highway 61 Revisited, Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues, and Desolation Row). I adore the beginning of Otis Blue/Otis Redding Sings Soul (Old Man Trouble, Respect, A Change is Gonna Come).

Loyola Marymount's offense

Loyola Marymount's offense was just bonkers. They averaged 122 points per game. They made 40% of their threes as a team.

One of their stars, Hank Gathers, died on March 4th during a game. They thrived despite that as an 11 seed, reaching the elite eight and falling to UNLV. Jeff Fryer hit 11 of 15 threes against us. Just tip your hat to that.

Awful

These refs keep digging deeper into the inferno.

Z-bound!

I love how Simpson is grabbing rebounds today.

Awful refs

The crowd is right to boo this nonsense. Go Blue!

Ready for non-non-Michigan game

Excited for us to take the court after the Badger game. 238193 is a number. Time to beat the Hawkeyes!

Shared trauma

The Syracuse disaster was my first home game as a Michigan student as well. I still shudder every time the team faces a QB that can run.

I think it's fair to say the OL coaches can learn a lot from the mistakes of this year. I see Drevno's approach as a good first step. Now let's get some tackles!

Thanks Ace

Great recap, especially considering how fresh the sting feels. I'm tired of seeing the other team make the plays to win the competitive games. I am still hopeful for the bowl game with a competent quarterback. I am still hopeful for the future. I still want it now.

Audio Volume

Thanks for the great analysis. FYI, while listening to the podcast through iTunes, the music between segments was about twice as loud as the ads and three times as loud as the banter.

Wrangler

My two-door Wrangler was completely impractical for mostly city driving. Horrible mileage and a giant folding back seat dividing all cargo room. I still enjoyed taking the top off and crusing in the summer. The two-door just looks better.

I Fear Tomorrow Came

Epitaph is just about perfect. Lake's vocals, nice guitar, and all of the mellotron building together.

Smokin'

I've always wanted a smoker. This recipe convinces me I need a smoker.

Gotcha

Yeah, I see who you mean. He lines up at TE and stays in pass protection. There is no name on the back of the jersey. Edmonds is a good guess, since his official number 86 conflicts with Chesson.

WR Ways

Maurice Ways is big, but not blocky-catchy big.

Formation

I think Nickelbacker is alright, especially in a parallel universe without Nickelback.

My suggestion for the formation name is 4H, in honor of our promising hybrid space player.

Totally

The Muppet Babies were great fun. They reinforced the power of imagination. You can go anywhere.

Very Impressive

Baxter sees the big picture as a coach, mentor, and learner. I'm impressed by his articulate, patient, and enlightening answers. Harbaugh!

Welp Indeed

Astounding how we discover new lows with every possession.

Too Bad

Too bad one can't score on penalties alone.

Worst?

So was that the worst call ever, or merely the worst call during the video review era?

I Care!

This is exactly the problem. We are not in a position to take advantage of the situation. We show what we want to do, and we do it, predictably. We are boring. We are dumb.

Bringing Shane back in also horribly incompetent

Bellomy needs to be ready when Gardner's helmet pops off. Why is such simple preparation not executed?

What now?

Any suggestions other than drinking heroically?

So long!

Longest gif ever! I made it all the way through and dealt with it. Hooray!

Hater Control

The small-minded thrive on putting others down to lift themselves up. The most dangerous thing about a great sports site like this is that we have no control over the outcome of the subject matter. When the team is losing and worse, not at all entertaining, morale just tanks. Seems to me that the small-minded nurse their rage and lash out in a pathetic attempt to cheer themselves up.

Thanks for all the hard work the writers and knowledgeable commenters put into this great site! I look forward to the return of comment moderation.

More than winning or losing

The team is not fun to watch right now. I don't blame people for declining this entertainment product. I have been more averse to both the way we have won and lost this year. It's more than being fair weather.

The only entertaining B1G game this year was Indiana, since they have no defense. Put Michigan against any team with a pulse on defense, and we look like a turd.

I will keep watching, but my expectations for victory, success, and even player development for this year are in the basement. My new baseline: I want to see effort and exuberance.

Tough Fall

Happy trails, Mr. Hand. Alabama is starting to look like the player-controlled team on an EA NCAA Football Dynasty a few years in on easy mode.

The Way We Are 8-4

9-3 or 8-4 was about my expectations for this season. However, the way we've gone 6-3 to this point has been was below my expectations. I am mostly still proud of the way the defense has kept us in the games.

I remember attending the Michigan-OSU game in 1993. We were 6-4. OSU was undefeated. We destroyed them to the point the 28-0 score was deceiving. That was awesome. We ended up a fairly satisfying 8-4 that year.

I just don't see it happening this time around. I really hope we're all wrong!

Jones played

He was an offensive lineman for Arkansas. Not a scrub either. He was a co-captain for their 1964 national championship season. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Jones

Poor Concordia

Michigan wins 82-43.

Also Depends On Punter

I think you punt if you have a reliable punter. In hindsight, Nebraska's punter did not look good that time and biffed it. The difference between Minnesota starting from the 50 and starting on Nebraska's 34 is huge.

Confirmed in the BTN highlight video at about 2:35

They had a timeout left. It was 2nd down with about 80 seconds left. I think that a run play in that situation is justified to burn more clock than a kneel.

Lost Opportunities

I don't remember a recent loss with so many opportunities to win. The barrage of mistakes was unbelievable. I expected losses this season. I braced for loss before this game. The way it happened was the problem. We have played down to the level of every team we have faced in this soft stretch of the schedule except for the opener. I never expected that.

Context for Wisconsin

The summer of 2012 was an exodus of Wisconsin assistants, including the OC and offensive line coach. Early on in the Fall of 2012, the new offensive line coach was struggling to institute his philosophy. Bielema fired the new coach and promoted a graduate assistant familiar with the old scheme. The old way worked, so they reinstituted it to great effect.

We certainly don't have anything that works or used to work, so I don't think we can even consider personnel changes until the offseason.

It seems like more than coach-speak

I don't expect Hoke to throw his assistants under the bus or to the wolves. However, he can certainly admit that they need to work harder or rethink what is clearly not working. What happened to the guy that called season one a failure?

Confidence exactly!

Playing to lose and then losing this battle of who could suck less, I also believe that the coaches have done a bad job of instilling confidence. Others have fairly debated who is to blame for the suicidal playcalling (Hoke/Borges/Funk's O-line). Keep in mind we have now seen both Robinson and Gardner regress as passers over time. Bellomy was also put in a position to fail last year.

Something has to change. I still think there can be redemption for the running game this year (perhaps merely by passing more?). I think this is a great opportunity for Borges to earn his keep. If there is no improvement, factoring in that the defenses are generally better going forward (yikes!), I think Borges and Funk have to go.

Here

Mean drunk over here. On second thought, just disappointed drunk.

Need-based Stipends

There is already an academic need-based financial aid system. Universities could give poor student-athletes more money than they give someone from a wealthy family. Sure, there is the argument that little colleges couldn't afford this. At least Arian Foster could get transparent pizza money while he is a hungry college student.
