Would totally disagree with…

Would totally disagree with this take.  The vast majority of college football players know that college is the end of their football careers (even at blue blood college programs).  The bowl game itself serves a reward of sorts for a season of hard work, effort and dedication.  The ENTIRE TEAM goes, not just the players you see on the field every Saturday and it is not meaningless to the kids.  I know this because my younger brother went to four of these games as a player and into his late 30s still speaks fondly of them.

Favorite episode or…

Favorite episode or character from the 90's TV sitcom "Wings"?

Well, looks like we win by default

Default?  Woohoo!  The two sweetest words in the English language!

Washington Huskies

Chris Petersen reminds me a lot of John Beilein.  He worked his way up the smaller school ranks doing a lot with scheme and talent differential.  Doesn't seem to take a lot of character risks in recruits.  Also, father in law is an alum.

Another John McKay gem

"I’ve decided that if we play our very best and make no mistakes what-so-ever, we will definitely make a first down!"

Erk Russell at Georgia Southern

"At Gerogia Southern, we don't cheat.  That costs money and we don't have any of it."

Slander

Totally agree with media/slander as it relates to JP.  Sports are not just an athletic competition these days.  The NFL is selling entertainment and the player's character/image are all part of the entertainment.  Slandering an amateur or even a professional without recourse is wrong.  Even if the slanderer is doing it in his one self interest to "stir up" interest and clicks during their airtime, it is still wrong.

You are right

I'm on board.  He is now officially my favorite 2018 U-M recruit (this week).

What you really wanted

As a silent protest to your wife likely vetoing the dog idea I would name the cat: Snoopy

Brunch?

I bet that kid would absolutely CRUSH brunch!

Oklahoma?

What a difference a year makes.

Most Interesting Wikipedia Entry for Him

His father is 5 foot 10 inches and his mother is 5 foot 6 inches.

Being Upfront

That's correct.  I think the fact that we told him we couldn't guarantee him Ross, he decided to look elsewhere.  Hopefully, he's going to put a high value on a school that is shooting straight with him.  We've got the spot available!!!

Bora Bora for the win

Overwater bungalow looking down on a blue lagoon.  I'm not sure I could image a better scene if I had a blank page.

Oceanside Camp

He could wear the Leon Hall jersey.  Leon went to HS in the town that borders Oceanside.

That rug really pulled the room together

Did the china-man pee on his offer?

Jedd gif

Who's got the gif of Jedd talking to Jameis about crab legs?  That's the eyes I think Jedd had before signing the extension

At least it wasn't the plane this time

He's gotten really unlucky trying to travel home from the state of Arizona

Small School Division 2

I grew up close to there.  Cedar Creek is a brand new HS with very little enrollment but a really good football coach (former NFL d-lineman) so they get to play against pretty bad competition for most of the season.  There is a lot of good D-1 football talent that comes out of the area though becuase the coaching and camp participation is pretty good but not 11 players on the field are good.

In a utopia sure, in reality no

Agree to disagree.  Immediate gain for players who only play 4 or 5 seasons of college football by trying to win as many games as possible.  Long term structural decisions are left up to adults (coaches and adminstrators) who are building a program that will live past the decisions of these few players.

Fraud happens in the financial arena when there are no checks and balances to prevent short term gain over long term stability.

I wish I could neg that comment more

It is a BIG DEAL to let players determine discipline and when to apply it.  The best analogy would be my parenting style to let my kids displine themselves.  They'd be eating ice cream for every meal and never doing homework without fear of discipline.  Come on...you have to see how dumb it is "to let the players decide"???

As a coach, make a decision and live with it.

Mone will play on Sundays

I'm ok with his redshirt being burned.  Playing the players who give us the best chance of winning bring me the most happy.  Saving them for uncertain games yet to be played if at all makes me less happy.

Click Bait

Michigan alums are probably the most likely to subscribe to the WSJ outside of any Ivy League or NYU student body.  Many Wolverines work on Wall Street.

Defensive Line

MSU getting stuffed in the run, over and over and over again.

Mikey Webber?

Relationships built on trust? Ummm, ok?

Parking

Parking can take up to 30minutes just to get into the tailgating lot.  Get off at Mission Valley, have a beer or two at the Titled Kilt then walk across the street and jump on the trolley (for two stops).  Just be warned that it can take a long time to get on the trolley after the game and you get stuffed in on it like sardines.  I wouldn't advise tailgating too loudly as a Lions fan...opposing fans don't get treated to friendly from the rougher part of the Charger fan base that probably resides closer to the Mexican border.  The Dallas game a few years ago had an ugly incident since a lot of people go JUST to tailgate and get rowdy but never make it into the game.  Inside the stadium it's much more civil.

First plane

I can corroborate that the inital story reported on the Wall Street messaging systems was that it was an idiot in a little Cessna (so this was not Howard Stern reporting it).  From the southern view, it did not appear to cause much damage to the building.  The second plane on the other hand caused a massive explosion and shook almost every tall building south of the WTC.

1 New York Plaza

Just a few blocks away from the WTC on the southern tip of Manhattan.  It was the third week of my first job at an investment bank on the 49th floor of a 50 floor building.  Just weeks earlier we were training at the hotel in the WTC.  Very sad, surreal scene as the buildings fell and very important to never forget!

Really?

So, you are telling me this is a new concept?  Losing the game should make players feel worse than watching in slow motion HOW they lost the game.  Learning how NOT to lose the next game may actually help players grow and improve.

Weird dude

He gave Beamer the Colin Cowherd treatment.

Wittingham

Bringing it full circle to the Les Miles talk earlier in the board...talk about a tough decision he made a decade ago (from wiki):

The 2004 season ended with Utah becoming the first non-BCS conference team to make a BCS bowl game, the Fiesta Bowl. After winning the Fiesta Bowl, the Utes' overall record improved to 12–0. After the 2004 season, the Utes lost junior starting quarterback Alex Smith to the NFL and head coach Urban Meyer who left to the University of Florida. After the regular season, and before the Fiesta Bowl, Whittingham was offered the head coaching job at Utah and also the head coaching job at his alma mater, Brigham Young University. After struggling with the decision for four days he chose the Utes.[4]

Adjustment

Al Borges probably thought the same thing if he heard that clip.  Football is about never changing, sticking to the script and being as rigid as possible, right?

Solid negotiating skills

He still got worked by the conference with back to back games in East Lansing.

Coachspeak

Shocked "get after the quarterback" and "blitz" were not mentioned.  Regardless, beef on the line makes me happy and hopefully lets Durkin and Mattison get a little creative to confuse blocking schemes.

I'm going as well

Any good bars close to their stadium that can be recommended?  I turned down the opportunity to spend a Wednesday night in SLC for fear of boredom so I'm coming in hot on an early morning flight from California on Thursday morning.  Morman jokes are ok as long as useful information is sprinkled in as well.

Totally agree

Yeah...I hope it is announced in advance so recruits can line that trip up.

Camping with an injury

Richardson deserves all the credit in the world for choosing to camp knowing that he was hurt.  Most guys would have backed off knowing they didn't have a chance to impress at 100%.  I am always going to be a fan of his.  That was a gutsy decision!

Kaepernick

That was my first thought too...and I'd be ok with that!

Michigan 38 - Notre Dame 0

EVERYTHING WORKED!  Despite starting 0-2 in 2007.  This was the biggest pounding I can ever remember giving a rival.  (Words carefully chosen there).

Not cool

Fulmer Cup is going to need a new name soon.

September 3rd

I actually plan on attending the real first game:  September 3rd, Salt Lake City!!!

Maybe chicks don't dig a wallaby

I'm guessing it didn't play as well to the females as orignially envisioned.  Hell of an idea though and I can't say the 20 year old verson of me isn't impressed with the execution of procuring one.

^Sure

Everyone on this board wants to believe that is true (myself included), but then again that's what everyone says when a medical hardship is signed.  Unbiased logic makes me skeptical about true motivations.

^Not sure I get your point

Were you given a scholarship in 2012 to play football at the University of Michigan?  Your second sentence should read "if Pipkins is unable to play UP TO THE CURRENT STAFF'S STANDARDS, then he shouldn't."  The article clearly says that Pipkins believes he is able to play up to his own standards.  Sorry to be blunt but that is the main point of contention.

Best reply comment

I second this.  Let's not jump to assume this is deeper than it is.  I don't like us trying to defend this just as much as I don't like what Urban and the SEC do to kids two years into the program.  Pipkins wants to play...that should be where we stop reading.  Sorry to Pipkins and I hope this does not become a trend.

Terrell Pryor

They did as much research on this pet as TP did on his "research paper about research"

Kicking for Harbaugh

I can't imagine what Harbaugh will put kickers through in terms of constant competition/mock stress and mental exercises (since a lot of kicking is mental).  Harbaugh seems to like testing the mental side of football players.
