Sorry for your loss. Hope you are not away from here too long às your sobering perspective tempered issues here. Find and enjoy what's important and share some if you can as we may need it. Best wishes to you both going forward. |

Knew her before she, her husband and his buddies funded her becoming the Colonel Sanders of greek food around here. She started a three stool take out in the Continental Market in B'ham in the early 70's. Her son Bill was cooking when I first went there and had hair down to nearly his waist (but in a hair net). Very nice lady who is still with us, I believe. |

Best case of a bad situation. As stated he was done and its better than a further tarnishing of a stellar career. A Juan gone and Nate Colbert waste of money for the Tigers. Wish him well in retirement and recuperation that he has ample compensation for and hopefully this will preclude rash statements about the "D". |

'nuff said. |
3 years 31 weeks ago | Now filter for those that can read past third grade! |
Let's see if our percentage goes up. Remove those using PEDS as well and then reshuffle. Lastly check for those not accepting booster bennies. Red deer antler spray a major SEC sponsor of the top teams. |

3 years 36 weeks ago | Grew up between Hunter and Woodward in B'ham! ' 64-72 |
Use to sit in lawn chairs on hot friday nights and watch m plate cars go toe to toe with strip cars and motorcycles with wheelie bars light it up for a half mile from the light at Oakland to the light at Oak along Poppleton Park. My backyard faced Poppleton. Drove Woodward in my '66 Riviera 425 nailhead from '77-79 and have never been to the 'Cruise as a result because it is just a glacial car show and not what Woodward was. The weekends leading up to this one were like it used to be and traffic with American muscle got a little heavy back in the day. My Dad drove Woodward to the Totem Pole in a '52 Ford and lived 1 block north of the 14 mile intersection in B'ham from '36 to '58. 13 and Woodward was the hangout with the plaza parking lot full of cars with their hoods up and plans to test each other made for more remote locations around the city. Having recently extensively driven Chrysler's Hellcat Challenger and Charger and the Viper they just blow away all the Roadrunners and Tri-Powers of the day. In fact they are kinda scary but in a good way. |
3 years 36 weeks ago | I have known this since grade school playing no pads tackle! |
You learn pretty quick not to use your head and to use your shoulders and wrap as they do here to drive into and through bigger guys. I was an only child learning against the catholic kids and their older brothers at the catholic feeder school to Brother Rice. Played against many of the 1978 state champ kids from that BR team from grade school to 8th grade and at their grade school these kids played tackle on pebble covered asphalt. I guess 5 kids to a family you just let'em go but I thought they were nuts. Same deal against post grad Dondero HS kids as in Rugby in a tackle pickup game where everybody left bloodiied you had to wrap and use your shoulders. I did find the rugby guys tougher that I knew. they seemed to like to inflict pain in anything they played. Love hearing Spielman talking about tackling. That guy could coach any team I root for anyday. |
3 years 40 weeks ago | Condolences to Seth! |
My Dad is 78 and just lost his best friend from age 14 until a few weeks ago to a prolonged illness. He deals with my Moms degrading dementia daily under a late day torrent of uncalled for blame as she tries to hang onto threads of what was and lashes out. He, like most men, is a problem solver. Unlike most he is first rate at it and complains almost never about any of this. I spent my birthday in TC with him and although I am not much for gifts these days i had the very best by sitting next to him with West Bay glistening and an Oberon in my hand while we talked for 40 minutes while ostensibly grilling dinner. We just talked about stuff and nothing but it gave him an adult interlude with a sharer of memories. He isn't so hail and hearty and the shoulders now droop and I know he is slowly passing the torch but it was the best thing in my life in recent memory to have that talk. If it gives any of you any comfort as I think it did him I'll mention my main point in our talk. Through our children we are immortal. I told him I said this to a co-worker 10 years ago from Germany that was about to have his first child. Being German, as is my lineage, he scoffed at such unprovables and I then said to him wait until you see your Moms eyes or cheekbones in your young daughter. Wait until you see that your forearms and hands are exactly as you remembered your Dad's along the car window ledge as we made one of thousands of treks UpNorth to build a cottage and way of life. Ponce De Leone did not find the fountain of youth because he likely left her back in Spain or whereever he embarked from. Actors live on in film and we live on as cellular input through to our children. Seth made me look at my hands. Thanks Seth.

Seems equally rational. Apparently there is a point where you stop feeding babies mush and they start feeding you. Some reach it unexpectedly. |
4 years 3 weeks ago | Extending player "stipends" to Refs? |
Only blocking fouls against opponents will be called and there is no such thing as offensive goaltending. So far so good. |
4 years 3 weeks ago | Ask OHIO or the SEC Teams? Seems to work there. |
Ebay is their sponsor but that contract may be up for renewal. I think the deer antler spray company and Bullough's PED manufacturer are jockeying for sponsorship position. Armstrong and Canseco are the pitchmen. |
4 years 4 weeks ago | Now, yes! Since 1995. |
My block is just like it was in B'ham in the 1960's including my house being the same style and approximate age. |
4 years 4 weeks ago | Oh great, now these goobers will vote us 15th in a coaches poll! |
There goes our chance at a non-shared National Championship! Maybe if some of the UM grad judges out there would commute more Tennessee player sentences then we could get back in good graces. That or cease televising games that bear witness to actual Tennessee teams actions versus legend. |
4 years 4 weeks ago | My Mom and I used to go there as a treat when Dad was travelling |
Early 60's to '72 we lived two blocks from there if you follow the street behind the HH business backlot downhill to the Rouge River. Park Street. Used to walk there or later go to Little Caesars first Bham strore the opposite end of Peabody's block facing Hunter (New Woodward). Our backyard was across Hunter from Poppleton Park and the neighbor was Olga Loizon of Olga's fame. Simple world back then. |
4 years 4 weeks ago | Sorry for the delay! |
I was making a distinction about the MSU case having certainly more factors for Title IX/trial pursuit versus Gibbons actually being innocent but a one night stand jerk. I am not saying he is but am concerned about the implication that a scorned date later gets a guy thrown out of college over nothing more than an ended relationship.Having had women make up crap about my career to further their own and thereby jeopardize my families livelihood I am not in the least ignorant of a womens abilty to lie to get her way. Fortunately their lies were so wierd and involved people in areas I rarely worked with or saw, let alone talked to, that they were found to be what they were which was false. No repercussions on the false accuser though which was interesting. |
4 years 5 weeks ago | And some just critique people who make sports too important! |
Where do they find the time to know the issue, statements and people involved and commenting and then pass haughty judgment? |
4 years 5 weeks ago | I am defending Gibbons possible innocence and not Sparties! |
Whole point talked about one not two and began with only MSU may even be a case. Your jump far exceeds the other conclusions. Attaboy. |
