I always find it funny when a reporter says, “The announcement could come as soon as today.”  or anything “as soon as today.”  Because it certainly won’t be coming yesterday.

I was at Spartan Stadium…

I was at Spartan Stadium this last game and took plenty of pictures. Not sure they’re of value 😉  but I’ll send them to Ryan Day as a “volunteer staffer” and the NCAA can investigate OSU from there.

Heck, we should all do that and title the email:

“The Scouting Pictures from Michigan/ Michigan State You Requested”

Right. If the rule was put…

Right. If the rule was put in place “to promote economic equity among institutions” then why couldn’t someone do it for free? Any school could technically try to recruit someone to do it for free, provided they were not “Athletic Department Personnel “.

Just a thought or 2.

Disagree.  How do you know…

Disagree.  How do you know he knew this was a gray area, and didn't think this was legal?  They do it in High School.  They do it in the NFL.  My guess is he didn't get handed an NCAA rule book 2 years before joining the staff, and he just was trying to get as much data as he could to analyze.  And he couldn't get tickets from Michigan free, so he bought them and asked friends to record the sidelines.  Was probably just looking for a leg-up.  If he bought them under a different name, that would have indicated he's trying to be shady.  I don't think he's stupid or shady.  Just uninformed about rules and therefore no need to cover up.

I feel bad for the guy and at the same time wish he didn't do it (knowing now what we know).

What if the husband or wife…

I like your analogy. So . . . What if the husband or wife of a cop wants their spouse to look good, and asks someone to go search the house and find evidence. Is that person who did the searching still “an agent of the police”. Because maybe no one on staff knew about this activity for 2 years and Stallions just wanted to get hired, proving how good an analyst he was (using video from friends). Then maybe Michigan didn’t know he was doing it this 3rd year either.

To the OP’s question about Stallions whispering in Minter’s ear, I’m assuming analysts do this regardless of whether they watched video of signs

in the end, maybe they were all involved, but I think we have to let it play out and assuming some guy that did this for 2 years free, and was then hired for $55k per year, seems like a WTF. Why would Michigan do this if they knew his methods for 2 years?

I went to the Sparty game…

I went to the Sparty game this weekend and have been to 3-4 home games. I’ll send some pictures to Ryan Day and let the NCAA know I was scouting both teams for Ohio State.

Should we plan for a Maize…

Should we plan for a Maize Out? 〽️

I think most coaches that…

I think most coaches that have a 5-7 record in 1 season as head coach would be happy to get $95M guaranteed.

That being said, I think an asst like Tressel or Hartline would be a decent hire for them. Young and passionate. Wanting to build a program. Maybe only $6M a year if State cares at all about money.

Or maybe the B1G takes…

Or maybe the B1G takes Washington, Oregon, Colorado, ASU, Stanford, Cal, ND, FSU, Miami, UNC, Duke, GT, UVA, Clemson, BC, Pitt,  Become THE college sports conference. And THE conference of high-academic standards.

With 32 teams, they can wield power over TV and media networks in all major markets (except maybe Austin and others like Tuscaloosa, Oxford, Lexington, Knoxville, Baton Rouge, and both Columbias).  Power over the SEC(?).  Four 8-team divisions. Have their own playoffs. Have their own bowl games. Have their own recruiting rules.

Lots of good rivalries within that group and with the current members. Football and Basketball and others. Hockey, LaCrosse, the Olympic Sports.

I’m half joking. I am not sure it’s good for college football or that I’d like it. But why 20?  Once regions are unvalued, take all the best left and make travel even easier. Other benefits?

Agreed. All those names on…

Agreed. All those names on the Declaration.  A ready-made list of most-wanted, with British soldiers in the streets.

And the year before, Jared…

And the year before, Jared Lorenzen was finishing up his career at 6’4” 285 :-o

Gen-X here. IIRC Fox wasn’t…

Gen-X here. IIRC Fox wasn’t much more than The Simpsons and Married with Children before they got the NFL deal. This is likely CWs attempt to be relevant. But with the PAC, they’ll need a few other conferences.

This is definitely not good for the PAC. At all. How the mighty have fallen. No one will change their network from ABC to CW with this, like many CBS affiliates did CNS to Fox back in the 90s. Detroit 2 used to be CBS.

This is all more intriguing than the other conference moves have been. Do AZ, AZ St, Colorado and Utah take this deal, or do they move to the Big12?

Or as you approach the singularity, time is slowed, and you never reach 0 ?  At the heart of every black hole the time of existence is as close to the time of the Big Bang as calculable (0 is the asymptote).

So not on the bubble in 2018…

So not on the bubble in 2018, 2019, (no tourney 2020), or 2021?  Maybe those are the years people are longing for. We had some good momentum lately.

It’s 0% right, 100% of the…

It’s 0% right, 100% of the time?

Hard to get past that first…

Hard to get past that first tweet. Imagine if Michigan decides to pull guards or tackles and get fancy! LOL. Bryan Mac “could” be right, but just for this game. Maybe we do just plow TCU with straight ahead runs between the tackles for 4 quarters.

How many players are allowed…

How many players are allowed on a roster? This seems crazy at this point unless we aren’t signing anyone tomorrow.

“We had a lot of great stuff…

“We had a lot of great stuff ready to go. And we were ready for everything — for overtime, for two-point, shoot out — whatever came up. As it turned out, the big plays made it so we didn’t really need to use a lot of stuff we had saved up that was ready. Really, a lot of the big plays we hit was with base, day-one training camp stuff.”

“I would never make a life…

“I would never make a life/career choice for any monetary value.”

Right, kid. I would never choose a job making $10.5M over one making $9.0M either.

Gattis has a huge budget apparently, and still sucks at his job.  This inducement at Miami and Florida is all illegal. Wonder when the NCAA investigation will begin. Hmmmm

What about the Lou Groza and Ray Guy candidates?  Are we ALSO Kicker-U ?

BTW, our TEAM could get a lot of awards if things keep going well, besides Doak Walker . . . Rimington, Mackey, Broyles, others.

Same combo as the 78-0 game except for the socks. Maybe Rutger will plan to fence the garden again and wear black.

Do you get noticed commenting on a post replying to the first post?!  This is a test.

Anyway, I’m here for a bang. Go Blue! Beat Rutger!

Back in the early 2000s my cousin (who went to Purdue) said the Wave at the Big House was the coolest thing he’d ever seen a crowd do. But yeah I wish the students would learn and do it right again!

Even though I think the Blue Out will never work (too many not-blue faces in the crowd, sporadic other colors of clothing and hats), a great wave with dark clothing and then Maize Pom-poms up when the wave arrives would look great.

The students are probably frustrated that everyone doesn’t join in. Well that’s because they keep doing it when we have the ball 🤦🏻‍♂️

Get it together students and Go Blue!

Ha. Good catch.

Ha. Good catch.

Agree with the contrasting…

Agree with the contrasting Pom-poms if we do it. But are we all supposed to wear glow in the dark royal blue so that it looks anything close to that?

Everyone has Maize now. Blue isn’t going to work for a game 9 days from now. Communication to some people still arrives by pony express.

It’s not official.

It’s not official.

And a giant piece of pasta…

A DJ and an MC.

And a giant piece of pasta somewhere!

Tell them no. Please.

Maize…

Maize is great under the lights.

Blue will not pop. There will be 6 different colors of blue.

I know 😉

What time will the Ohio…

When will the time of the Ohio State game be announced for 2023?

VERY FUN week to see teams…

VERY FUN week to see teams lose.

Either Sparty will get their 4th loss or (nevermind).

Either Texas will get their 2nd loss (and still not be “back”) or Oklahoma will get their 3rd (and go spiraling into the SEC move).

Either Tennessee will finally lose (cause they’re not “back”) or LSU and Brian Kelly will get their 2nd loss (with Bama, Florida, A&M and Ole Miss yet to come).

Either Utah gets loss #2 (ends playoff hopes) or UCLA gets one (ends playoff hopes).

Maybe A&M shocks Alabama again?

Maybe Auburn gets past Georgia?

Maybe Wash State takes out USC?

Hopefully BYU beats ND (making them 2-3 to start the year).  Because to hell with Notre Dame.

Tuck, is that you?

Tuck, is that you?

Awesome. Makes me think they…

Awesome. Makes me think they should then design a building on campus, the shape of a tooth, just to show off.

I didn’t see the sign, but…

I didn’t see the sign, but maybe it’s a different double meaning, or even a triple meaning, considering a Phoenix is a bird that rises from the ashes, and the guy is named Penix and has his college career rising from injury and a few years at Indiana.

Freeman does. He coached…

Freeman does. He coached their loss in their bowl game last year. Which was an L.

Uh. Unless they want data to…

Uh. Unless they want data to justify raising ticket prices, and concession prices, and advertising fees.

Maybe like soccer where they…

Maybe like soccer where they split screen an ad and the field?

Exactly. How does ND with…

Exactly. How does ND with very few, high-profile HOME games get anywhere near $75M? Even $40M? The only way is if the B1G teams help them by scheduling them. Unless I’m misinterpreting.

Why would the B1G do that when they’re not part of the conference and will only take eyes away from 2 B1G teams playing at the same time, while padding ND coffers?

No ND vs Michigan.

No ND vs Purdue.

No ND vs MSU.

No ND vs USC.

No ND vs Ohio State.

Wish we didn’t expend so much energy talking about that school, but if the B1G knows what’s good for them, they make ND join the conference or just stop helping them

1. Whoever is playing OSU. But Ibknow that’s not the type of answer the experts want. So if I have to pick one, Cincinnati because my family is from there and I’d love for them to challenge OSU some day for recruits, fans, etc.

2. Don’t watch much TV other than sports. But Curb Your Enthusiasm is/was great.

3. 80s Metal/Rock but new Country is catching up.

I still believe ND needs the…

I still believe ND needs the B1G WAAAAY more than the B1G needs ND.  Current ND TV contract is what, $15M per year through 2025?  And analysts were talking each B1G team getting $60-70M per year in the next deal?  So if the B1G doesn’t grab ND, they get $70M and if they do, they get $72-75M?

ND is not getting anywhere near $30M on their own after 2025.  And if the B1G wants to play hardball, they and the SEC lock-out schools not in their conference,  AND they stop scheduling ND.  No more ND vs Michigan or MSU, Purdue, NW, USC (or OSU like this year).

Not saying the B1G should do this, but ND has no leverage.  Money to watch them play Navy, Army, BC, Clemson, Georgia Tech, VA Tech, awake Forest, UNC and then NO chance at the CFP is gonna be minimal.

Am I missing something?

I think the ACC grant of…

I think the ACC grant of rights is a holdup. How do they get out of that?

The B1G has time. ND is stuck with Clemson, FSU, Miami, Duke, UNC, VA, GT and VT. If any of those are able to get out of the deal, they’re all up for grabs. Some like UNC, Duke, VA, GT even ND don’t want to go to the SEC. At some point there might be a bidding war, but the SEC doesn’t need ND, Oregon or Washington and the B1G doesn’t need them either.

I thought so too, but then…

I thought so too, but then can’t they just transfer in a year or 2, to the B1G or SEC? Time of total chaos.

I thought we were adding 2…

I thought we were adding 2 schools.

A fun read, Seth.
