Eliminating donations to the Athletic Department is a great start. I'm sure they review monthly, their plan vs budget.
HOWEVER, how about also: Don't buy Michigan licensed products for a while. I'm sure not purchasing a new jersey and hat, or new t-shirt and man-cave banners will begin to hit our suppliers like Adidas and others in the coming months, and they along with the lack of licensing fees to the department, will start to be noticed.

I wouldn't drive to A2 to listen to AC/DC or Special K's dance mix tonight, or even to hear Special K yell out, "Get Looouuuuuud", but I'd come to watch our kids, Dennis in particular, have fun out on that field. They deserve to have some fun.
And I think Penn State was scared to kick it to crazy dancing returner guy. They kicked it out of bounds a few times.
I appreciate Dennis and his dancing.

You seem to think they ARE keenly aware of the fact that people want a change in the AD. You realize this blog is an echo chamber with a couple hundred regular posters, right? We're not all bigtime donors or friends of the President. 100 snail mail letters and a couple of articles about concussiongate don't convey the feelings of the more passionate fans. Mr. Schissel hasn't been here that long.
Is he "keenly aware" of the mass desire to get rid of Dave Brandon? Or will he see the student section full at kickoff and think, "Hmm, there must not be as much discord as I thought. Just a few hundred people showed up for the rally last week too. Dave must be right." There are hundreds of thousands of alumni.
Consider there is no waiting list for tickets anymore. SO I ASK YOU . . . What is worse for the players, a nearly empty student section for the kickoff tomorrow, followed by a rollicking crowd a couple minutes in, or a stadium only filled with 90,000 people for most of the games, the entire game, next year? Because if there isn't some sort of statement made now, Dave Brandon will still be the AD after this year, and there will not be full stadiums next year!
I think you're too confident in this "keen awareness".

That will only work if there are 10,000 other season news-paper subscribers who also do the same, and if ESPN shows you all doing it from an aerial blimp view while explaining why you're doing it. You alone will not get publicity and the attention of the University President.

And we all know that boycotting the Maryland game is only going to hurt the players.

He said they had to coach better too, so I'm assuming if he's a good coach, he will follow through with that plan.

But he probably would let them advertise if they made a substantial donation to the athletic department. Heck, he'll even go out of his way to honor former players if they buy their own tickets for the game.

Seems totally unworried about his future as coach. Methinks he has gotten reconfirmation from DB that he isn't going anywhere as long as he's in charge.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Agree with this. I think we||
Agree with this. I think we should try to keep the stadium as empty as possible until kickoff . . . The entire stadium. Having students come in late would have the biggest impact, because they are a concentrated group, and all the extra individual game seats above that are generally empty, will leave that corner empty when Brent announces, "You are looking live . . ." I'll plan to not get to my seat until kickoff. Before kickoff, a lot of empty seats will make a point.
And yes, please stop talking about Hoke and Harbaugh. The goal is to get the Athletic Dept straightened ou, top to bottom. "Fire Brandon," should be the focus.
|3 weeks 5 days ago||My point was that things were||
My point was that things were bad at Domino's while Brandon was ignoring the customers, and things are bad here while Brandon is ignoring the students, fans and alumni.
The easiest, most appropriate fix to our situation, is to get rid of DB and get someone who will listen to those who want "good" product and not just a profitable one that people get tired of paying for over time.

Needed 1 extra ticket for the Miami(NTM) game for my 6 year old. Didn't care where the seat was. Paid only $19 on StubHub. There were seats on the 50, on the visitor sideline, on Saturday morning, for $30.
I think if we unfortunately (please don't) lose to Utah, you'll be able to get 2 Minnesota seats on the 50 for $42. Not sure why anyone, other than those who don't know how to use StubHub, would pay $42 for 1 seat high in the end zone.

Just don't get them wet. We don't need any more of them.

My head says 10-2. We should not lose to most of these teams. We will lose 1 that we shouldn't, but we will also win 1 game we aren't expected to.
My heart says 10-2. Our O-line has to be more consistent than last year, with that bit of experience last year and so much competition for playing time. We have a better OC who has been with an elite team and is likely more open to changes on the fly. Our D backfield is better. Devin isn't hurt and has tons of experience. We have weapons everywhere on both sides.
I keep telling my head and heart to shut up and just enjoy the games. Telling them 8-4, because I don't want to get my hopes up. We'll see how it plays out.

The players love the striped clown suits with blue pants? Link? Michigan players liked the bumblebee outfits? I don't buy it. Maybe a couple players. I'd like to see evidence, "they love it."

I think it means students can indeed buy them for $20 and then sell them immediately on StubHub for $15.

I agree on the rationale for alternate jerseys. But they'd probably sell more white pants than these jerseys. They're clownlike. Not a big deal for me, since I won't buy it and I don't have to wear it. And it doesn't affect tradition. Meh.
PS: I just shipped my pants.

I know there are some people here that don't like these "big events" at the Big House, but there really is a benefit to the university and athletic department, aside from the cash. Keep in mind that there may be some nice kicker over in Europe now, who wants to be a Michigan Wolverine. Maybe there's some fast, tall kid who doesn't have the footwork to play soccer, but would like to learn more about football, the TE position, and the U-M. Maybe there's a hockey player or basketball player that puts us on their list or bumps us up a bit, just because they recognize the support of our fans or feel they might get to be part of something special. It happens all the time, with goodwill around the globe.
Not saying it's a huge effect, but when it's successful like the hockey game against State, the NHL game, this soccer game and of course our UTLs, it might make the difference in lots of little ways.
And as far as the U-M itself, how many of us became interested long before applying to colleges, because we saw the football team or basketball team on TV? Maybe gets us a few extra, smart researchers from overseas, who didn't even know Michigan or didn't have us in their consciousness. I bet there are a few more smart people considering U-M now.

Originally though Pub stood for publicity. Then I saw the city of Dublin in your title and thought, "Oh. A pub.". Happy to read about the good publicity, rather than a drinking establishment I'll unfortunately, probably never make it to. I would like to get to Ireland. Someday. Someday.

Quidditch like in the movie "The Internship", or has Michigan or MIT developed flying brooms now? THAT would be varsity. I'd pay to see that. Not sure about the rest of you.

This will make the experience like the Superbowl. That and the name "Miami".
|18 weeks 4 days ago||Yes, don't do it when||
Yes, don't do it when Michigan has the ball. Some noise can be too much for the offense if audibling, and big plays can kill the wave. Hoping we have lots of those big plays this year.
|18 weeks 4 days ago||Agree 100% . . .Including||
Agree 100% . . .
Including the 2 times around at normal speed.
And slow has to be before fast.
The other points below I agree with:
- Must be late in the 3rd quarter or early 4th
of a game with at least a substantial
lead (maybe 17 points).
- Should be when the opposition has the ball.
The noise of the wave can definitely be
additive to the general noise making,
and will not distract our offense.
In about 2002 or 2003, my cousin (a Purdue grad) came with my nephew. The wave was particularly well done, in the order mentioned above, and he came away very impressed. His wife tells me every once in a while, that he still tells friends/neighbors/co-workers about our wave. He was very disappointed when he came around 2008 or 2009, and there was NO wave. I hope the Students get this to work this year again.
Although it seems a relatively minor thing, it is one part of the gameday tradition that should not be replaced by rawk music or lasershows. The band, the wave, the 4th down stop chants and others like Let's Go Blue, Offense Like a Truck, and Defense Like a Rock, "key" plays, passing co-eds around, Hail to the Victors are all obvious parts of the college gameday experience that we should embrace.

Do you mean "concurrent", not "concentric"? What would a concentric wave look like if that's really what you mean?
|19 weeks 5 days ago||Does DB honestly think the||
Does DB honestly think the App State, Miami of Ohio and Utah games are worth the price of admission including seats and PSL? I'm not sure of the price, but it'd be interesting to see what he says.
My guess is he'll say something about supply and demand and maximizing revenue . . . not something about taking care of Michigan Fans and helping them spend their Saturday afternoons in A2 with their young kids, enjoying the game, the band, the cheers, the tradition, the pageantry.
|19 weeks 5 days ago||Tradition||
Ask Dave Brandon if he feels that the tradition of attending every game, tailgating, walking to the stadium, listening to the band and watching some great football is becoming out of reach for most fans due to ticket prices. Perhaps prices of tickets means that only the wealthy, non-committed fans can attend, while the everyday Joe with 3 kids and a passion for Michigan will only make it to 1 game a year, at a huge discount price off StubHub, watching the rest of the games at home. Does he worry about the lack of connection to the tradition, and therefore passion, when so many people only attend sporadically?

Stubhub will have tickets for $15 for Miami and Ohio. Maybe not between the 30s, but in the endzones and corners, you won't get $30 for those games. Even with App St being the first home game, I don't think people will get face value on StubHub.
Otherwise, I agree with your comment about bundling.
