Love seeing it broken down…

Love seeing it broken down in your 'film room' session.  Awesome stuff!  Thanks!

I flew in for this one.  Froze my ass off but it was well worth it!!

Nicely done, Mr. Brightside!…

Nicely done, Mr. Brightside! This should indeed go viral!!!

Parking at Staples!

The easiest way to go is to take the Metro Rail, in my opinion.  The Expo Line takes you right there and you don't have to worry about your car.  I live in Mid City.  Jump on it for a buck and some change and I'm there.

Last game was amazing!!  There were lines and lines of fans in Maize and Blue waiting to get into Staples.  I hope it's that way tomorrow as well!

As for pregame meetup, there was a HUGE group of UM Alumni gathering at Tom's Urban sports bar which is directly across the street from Staples.  I think that's the plan for tomorrow as well.

Go Blue!

Michigan Baseball!

I saw this!  Incredibly hyped!  I went to see them play the Dirtbags in Long Beach a couple of seasons ago and it was a blast for me and my boys.  Sat next to one of the coaches moms for UM, which was great and chatted about the new coaching regime.

What about the game on Wednesday the 1st?  Also says it's in L.A.  Anyone know about where Loyola Marymount plays ball?

I'll be there! Bringing the I'll be there! Bringing the family. My boys have been running around in their Michigan gear, shaking Pom-Poms since 7am. Go Blue!
Officiating

Look, every play, every call, dictates what happens next.  Darboh was tackled while the ball was in the air on a promising drive, early in the game.  A ridiculous non-call.  We are a passing team.  We've won in the air all season, no matter what you think of our running game.  If our recievers are going to have to play on that playing field...we don't win.

On the other side, there was a call on our guy, was it Strib?, early on, where their reciever was pushing off, twisting and falling.  It was quite questionable, yet they got the call.

After those two call, I got a pit in my stomach knowing full well, we were screwed for the afternoon.  How Michigan was able to dictate most of the game was outstanding.  A hurt Speight, unable to scramble much or willing to take a hit, was terrific at times.

Later, in the second, we were unable to connect on a throw to Butt in the endzone because he was being ridden.  These all add up to missed opportunites and the inablilty to make plays and put the game out of reach.

Cut to the second overtime, going to the air to Perry, who is clearly intereferred with and no call, Michigan is forced to kick the field goal and inevietable lose the game.

Yes turnovers hurt. Does not mean Michigan should have lost the game, regardless?  No.

These kids fought their hearts out.  Even though they made mistakes, they deserved an even playing field, but did not get it.  Even with those mistakes, they deserved the game.  Period.

As for blaming Speight, the throw from the endzone, quite frankly, was due to Perry's roughing the kicker penalty.  Michigan has the ball on the 30 yard line or whereabouts, where Peppers makes the fair catch after that first punt with no penalty.  With the penalty, OSU was able to keep the ball, forced to punt after gaining better field position, pinning us down at the 2.  Speight threw that pass under duress only because he wanted to avoid the Safety.  Each play constitutes what is to come.  That play is not all on Speight.

Nice Guy

I was coaching my kids soccer team and wearing my Michigan shirt.  I was bummed because it was early Saturday morning and I was missing out on the UM - BYU game.  A guy walks up in ball cap, shakes my hand  and says: 'Hi, I'm Rich.  I'd rather be home watching us take on BYU, but I'm here.  I saw your shirt and came to talk to you. I figured you must be the smartest guy here..'  It was Rich Eisen.  He was coaching his kids soccer team and came over for a pregame chat.  Great guy!

I've seen him in Los Angeles a few times, and he is always out doing something with his family.  I've got nothing but respect for the guy.

Jim Rome is an asshat...

Why are we talking about him?  Oh right, he made a big deal about our coach.  Why?  Did you SEE the crazyness on State Street at midnight on Aug. 1st?  Did you see Jumpman gear sell out in 10 minutes?  I will tell you one thing:  MJ is certainly happy he joined the Michigan Family.  No one is more relevant than MIchigan and Jim Harbaugh right now.  No one is more IRRELEVANT than Jim Rome.  He's trying to be derisive in order to gain attention. It was the same reason he so classlessly insulted Jim Everett.  No one knew who Jim Rome was before that.  Times have changed.  Now no one CARES who Jim Rome is.

As for Coach walking away from reporters when they failed to accept that he did not want to elaborate on his previous comments?  Good for him!  He's got enough to deal with at the moment other than answering the same question over and over.  I really don't care how he is perceived in the media.  I want him to win football games, treat his players fairly, graduate them, all the while being happier than a pig in mud while living in Ann Arbor.

'God willing and the creek don't rise'...that will happen.

Go Blue!!

Running in Los Angeles

I've lived in L.A. for 25 years.  There are some nice places to run, however, downtown is not one of them.  I live near Hancock Park.  It's really easy to get to from the Purple Line, the subway.  If you take that to Wilshire and Western, the last stop, you can have a nice run along 4th.  Get off at Wilshire and Western.  Go 4 blks west to Wilton.  Take that north to 4th street and head west.  A nice run would be run down 4th past La Brea to Cochran and head south to 6th street.  Take that west to LACMA and the La Brea Tar PIts.  Make a circle around and head back.  Hancock Park is beautiful and shaded.

I usual run that, or I head to Santa Monica and run the stairs.  If you are up for the beauty of the ocean and have time, that's the place to run.  The ligthrail is expected to open up to Santa Monica from downtown sometime at the end of May.

Meritocracy...It that a new Mgoblog t-shirt in the making?

Thank you for posting this.  It is great to get this out during all the bad press, as well as our faithful questioning our recruiting ethics.

L.A. is beautiful. What's not to love?

Well, walking off campus at USC, for one thing!  I grew up in the midwest, been in L.A. 25 years now.  Yes, its gorgeous.  Would I send my kid to school out here?  To live in Westwood...maybe.  To live south of downtown L.A.?  Not a chance.  If you compare it to AA or any BIG campus for that matter, it wouldn't hold up.  The other question is who would you rather have coach your son:  Harbaugh or...who just got the SC job?  Just give her a moment to calm down from the glitz and the glamour.  It's not real, after all.

Love it!

I catch a game at least once a year up in Portland at the Thirsty Lion.  Greatest place to watch a game on the west Coast.  I met some wonderful alum there the past few years.  I will be up there for UM's potential bowl game over the holidays and hope that there are some shirts left!

Go Blue!

Heartbreaking

Just devastating news.  My heart goes out to the entire Carr family.  I am so very saddened for their loss.

Happy Birthday, Charles!

Definitely goes down as one of the greatest Wolverines of all time.  Unbelievable that he is 39 and can still bring it on the highest level.

Love the stuff with Rich Eisen as well.  He's done a great job in the media of spreading the gospel of Blue as well.

Well said!

He's done a fine job as you have said and continues to grow as the season progresses.  His experience has shown through in his decision making.  Hopefully, he will get the timing down on the deep throws, stretch the field a bit, and we will start putting up big points earlier and often.

Go Blue!

The Thirsty Lion while in Portland! If in Portland, the Thirsty Lion in the downtown area is the place to be. I found myself there on a number of occasions, while visiting the area, and met some really great UM folk there. Each time, a raucous crowd all in maize and blue singing the Victors every chance they got. It was great.
Great thread! Lyle was one of the greatest to ever wear the Maize and Blue. I remember the 'Goooo, LYTLE!' cheers as well. I thought it was against Wisconsin where Bo put him back at tailback for a play, after being moved to fullback, as if to 'throw him a bone', and he broke it for an 80 yard TD. Once Lytle broke free, you weren't going to catch him.
We Michigan fans were so spoiled in those years. Those 70's teams were the greatest, especially those Leach and Lytle years.
Southwest Corner

Flying in from Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon.  Taking my nephew who recently moved to SLC from Monroe, MI for work.  Harbaugh's first game as HC... it's like a calling.  Just have to be there.  Worked the KSL.COM site, thank you for the info MGOBLOGGERS,  for two singles at $100 a piece, only to have my UM contact come through with a pair of tic's, together, in the UM section.

Planning to head over to 'Beer Bar', after the game.  Told the owner, who was helping me look for tickets, that I'd swing by for a celebratory drink after the game; but, if there's a better bar that will be filled with 'Maize n Blue' folks humming Temptation,  please post!

By the way, hoping for a big UM turn out.  MANY local season ticket holders, with obviously no desire to see UM play, were selling this game to our fans in order to pay for their entire season.  I'm hoping that means a big sea of Blue!

Jarrod Bunch is a class act

I live in L.A. and run into Jarrod Bunch all of the time, generally at the gym.  He is a class act, incredibly modest and completely unpretentious.  His heart is true blue.  It's great to get him talking about Michigan Football, which he can get on a roll at times; but, almost impossible to get him to talk about himself.  Some stories leak out, but he is far too modest.  He's truly a great guy.

Thanks for the info. Thanks for the info and please keep posting. I'm heading up from the L.A. area for the game, still in need of two tickets. I remember my first UM vs ND game in South Bend back in '78. My dad and I left at the crack of dawn, still in need of a ticket. It was a huge showdown, a revival of the rivalry, if you will. A game against the great Joe Montana. 'Who's Joe Montana?", I thought. I was so immersed in maize and blue, I had no idea. Walking to the stadium, I saw a UM guy selling a ticket. I asked how much, he looked at the price on the ticket, I think it was $9, and sold it to me for that, face value! Leach and Co. went on to kick their asses. "Who's Joe Montana?", I thought again. Hoping to run into a little of that luck, again. On both counts!
I was at the game as well. So great to see so much maize and blue at the game. Sat next to the mother of one of the new coaches who had traveled down from the Bay Area. She said she was amazed at how well UM fans represented over the weekend series. Watching UM athletics in sunny SoCal = Awesome.
