Last season I took in 9 Michigan games (all 7 home games plus @ Minnesota and @ IU), which was only the 2nd time in all my years of Michigan fandome that I've gone to 9 games. If all goes as planned this fall, I'll again likely make 9 games, live and in person.

The penalties levied need to be costly, need to do financial damage to the entire athletic departments, and need to leave a lasting scar, just like it does to the victims of the assaults that are being covered up. SMU never recovered, why shouldn't PSU, BU, and UT risk suffering the same fate.

about whether Iowa should continue to play Iowa State. ISU is a member of the Big 12, one of the so-called "Power 5" conferences, and the two teams have a long-standing natural rivalry as the two biggest state schools in Iowa.
What I have a problem with, though, is that Iowa hasn't yet shown much inclination to upgrade their schedule elsewhere. It's been clear for a while that strength-of-schedule was going to be factored in to the new CPO 4-team selection process. It's been over 4 years since the B1G announced that it was going to a 9-game conference schedule beginning in 2016 (leaving room for only 3 non-conference games). Here's what I could find regarding the recent and future opponents, in addition to Iowa State, on the non-conference Iowa schedule:
2014: Northern Iowa, Ball State, @Pitt
2015: Illinois State, Pitt, North Texas State
2016: Miami (NTM), North Dakota State
2017: Wyoming, North Texas State
2018: Northern Iowa, Wyoming (although apparantly Iowa may be finally in the process of making changes here)
The home-and-home series with Pitt in 2014 and '15 are the only games over the above timeline that are defensible other than the Iowa State series. While it may have been too late to change the 2014 schedule in light of the rapidly changing CFB landscape when both the B1G and the National Championship system changes were being announced, Iowa schedules from 2015 forward don't appear to be upgraded at all.

|2 weeks 3 days ago||I'd prefer to see Evans get an opportunity on offense, too.||
Am I the only one, though, that is reminded a little of Desmond Howard when I watch Evans?
Similar build, similar ability to juke potential tacklers, similar speed, similar kick- and punt-return potential, the only thing that is to me a '?' is whether he's as good at catching the ball.
OTOH, it's obvious that we have a much greater need in the defensive backfield, but I'm left wondering (as so many others seem to also be) if he can bulk up enough to play the safety position. 20-25 pounds of muscle looks to be about the most he would be able to add, and even that's gonna leave him a bit undersized to take on 230lb fullbacks and 250lb TEs head on.
With Harbaugh in charge, though, expect the unexpected. Who knows what other ideas Coach Harbaugh has up his sleeve in regards to position changes? Until he has a chance to finish recruiting to positions of need in these next two recruiting cycles, I expect to continue seeing what we saw last year (and this spring) with players being moved around to fill those remaining roster gaps.

I've been futilely trying to embed that photo, so if anyone can help, a big THANK YOU!
It's a photo of my now 21-yr-old son when he was just 3, posing with James Hall after the 1998 Spring Game. My son had found Hall's helmet on the grass and put it on his own head behind Hall as James was signing autographs and posing for pictures with/for other M-fans. We spotted him doing so before Hall did, and took a few pictures (one with him wearing the helmet, one of him on Hall's shoulder pads, and this one). Needless to say, Hall got quite a kick out of seeing my son wearing his Winged Helmet.
This is the only one of those 3 pictures I can find right now, as I think the other two are in a photo album that's in my ex-wife's possession. I'll have to someday soon get copies.
BTW, I apologize for his red (ugh!) shirt. It was a warm spring day and we had removed his Michigan hoodie earlier.

Am I happy with what these sudden scheduling developments mean to an already out-of-balance schedule? No, but it won't stop me from continuing to attend every Michigan game I possibly can. It's not like I have any control or influence on how schedules are put together anyway...

Without Vinnie "The Microwave" Johnson and the instant offense he provided off the bench, who knows if the Pistons would have been able to pull off their back-to-back NBA Championships in '89 & '90.
Though I'm not a big NBA fan, I followed that team closely enough to know how important Vinnie was when Chuck Daly needed to add some quick heat to the offense. Probably my favorite Piston from that era.

|3 weeks 3 days ago||Kansas Comet>>>Sweetness.||
My opinion (full disclosure: coming from someone who hates the Bears above all other NFL teams) and I'm sticking to it.
The only negatives Gale Sayers had are ones he couldn't control ---devastating knee injuries and playing on an otherwise anemic offense. Sayers averaged 5.2 yd/carry over his first 3 seasons, then was at 6.2 yds/carry thru 9 games in his 4th season when he suffered torn knee ligaments. And this was for a Bears team that had no offense other than him in the late 60s.
Payton, OTOH, played on generally good-to-very good Bears teams and had a relatively healthy career during which he put up great numbers over a much longer time.

What is a "disount"?
|3 weeks 4 days ago||I don't know the answer, OP,||
but I agree that there needs to be a time limit to both the steps and the entire process of play reviews.
That said, the fact that reviews don't have a time limit potentially helped the Tigers today, as it took several minutes to overturn the initial call of "out!" on a play at home in Toronto's win over the Indians. I didn't think there was enough conclusive evidence to overturn, but it did give the Jays a 7-6 lead in the 8th and 2 more runs eventually scored with two out as a result of that no longer being an out. Thanks to that replay, the final score was Toronto 9-6 over Cleveland.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||"The Great War"||
is how my Grandpa usually referred to WWI. He served as an Army MP in France, Belgium, and Germany in the final days of WWI and for many months after Armistice Day. Although he seldom spoke to anyone about his war experience until after Grandma passed away (7 years before he died at age 89), he finally opened up to me about it a few times in his final few years, including some of the horrible things he witnessed patrolling towns the US Army liberated as the tide turned, and showing me his war souvenirs such as a German pistol, daggers, and German helmet.
Most of the time, though, he preferred to speak and laugh about his post-war duty of making sure the "doughboys" behaved in the beer halls, including retrieving them to the bases and away from the Frauleins after their "visits".

Is this the player formerly known as "Zay"?
|3 weeks 4 days ago||Meanwhile, in other||
AL Central Division happenings, Rajai Davis just completed the "Reverse Cycle" for Cleveland in today's game vs. the Blue Jays. He hit (in this order) a home run, triple, double, and now a single in the 9th, but the good news (for Tigers fans, anyway) is that Toronto leads (edit: just won) in the top of the 9th.
It's been an interesting and controversy-filled game, especially in the bottom of the 8th, when Toronto took the lead when what was initially called a tag at the plate was overturned, giving the Jays a 7-6 lead. I honestly didn't think they'd overturn the call due to lack of clear evidence.

|3 weeks 4 days ago||First of all, not even thinking about||
catching the Indians until and unless Detroit wins the upcoming series at Cleveland.
And even then, as well as Cleveland is playing, the best the Tigers likely can do is get the wildcard unless they come up with a solution to the starting rotation mess---Pelfrey is a disaster and Sanchez can't cut it.
In the meantime, Fulmer's innings MUST be cut back every opportunity. When the Tigers went up 7-0 in the top of the 7th, Fulmer should have been pulled instead of pitching the bottom of 7. Ausmus missed an opportunity to save an inning; a seasoned manager such as Francona would have figured it out.

if the gun wasn't in his bag, there wouldn't have been an accident.
Its not complicated: just like with a car or medication, you simply can't handle a gun recklessly without putting yourself and/or others at risk.
RIP, Mr. Tipton.
