100% agree with you. If these schools like Duke, Kentucky, Arizona, MSU, etc. get limited to no punishment, this will prove how the NCAA is a group of hypocrites. Why does Michigan get punished so harshly, and other school get nothing?
Nicholson is going to make the 53 man roster - so that is not a wasted pick. We did not dodge a bullet - we would have been glad to have him. How many guys in college start as a freshman? Not many. He was not bad at MSU - he was not coached or used properly at all. Do you know how many times he blitzed at MSU? Zero! You have a guy that big and fast, and you never sent him after the QB? Trust me - if he played at Michigan, he would have been used better, and would have had a huge role in our secondary the past few years.
He is still an athletic freak - one that is getting paid in the NFL now. I have watched him in the pre-season: he belongs in the NFL.
And who are you to call him names and question his character? He has never once gotten into any trouble, and he comes from an amazing family.
I grew up in Ohio in a Catholic family. My friends all liked OSU, my family is huge into ND. Thus - I became a Michigan fan when I was about 15 years old.
I grew up in Ohio so most of my childhood friends were osu fans. I am part of a large catholic family and they are all notre dame fans. So by the time I hit high school I was sick of not fan bases and turned blue.
I too will never understand how/why Hoke stopped recruiting Nicholson. He had Michigan in his top group, was setting up his official visit to the ND UTL game, and then Michigan calls him and tells him 'no thanks'.
He starred on special teams last year, started 3 games and got extensive action in just about every game - all as a true frosh. He then went on to have a good track and field season (finished in the top 10 at the Big Ten championships in long jump and hurdles). He is the total package - size, strength, speed. I strongly believe he will be the next star in the MSU secondary and be a first round draft pick.
One note: Nicholson was never looking at Northwestern. His final 3 were MSU, FSU and Pitt.
If you replace Fort Wayne with Pittsburgh, and your grandma with my grandpa, we would have similar stories. This game is huge within my family. Now we have nothing to bicker about in college football in the upcoming seasons.
Horford is a different breed - he is doing what is best for him, and he likely can care less about McGary's decision. He likely just wants a change of scenery and to explore the world. Playing time/basketball may be secondary to him right now. Honestly - he will be a backup center at any major top 40 program, or a starter at a smaller school. He never seemed happy this year - but I thought that was maybe his personality?
Michigan playing in Pittsburgh next year would be great, as I live in Pittsburgh. I already plan on going to the first/second round regardless - so Michigan being there would be icing on the cake. Those games will be sold out - Pittsburgh has a good track record of hosting the NCAA tourney.
Agree with an earlier post - the committee can't have us going to Columbus - that would be brutal. Even Cleveland in the regional finals is not great, in my opinion. I hope Cleveland only being 2 hours from AA would drown out the home town osu crowd.
Wings fans can have the streak - I will take the win (and the division title too). I would welcome a first round series with Detroit. Being a Pittsburgh guy - would make for some nice trash talking on here.
I am not a huge NFL fan - mainy just cheer for Michigan alum. Thus - I am anxious to see where he lands. He is a great 3rd or 4th WR and great locker room leader.
You could make an argument for being as high as 9 or 10 - but this is fine. Win these last 2, make at least the semis in the Big Ten tourney, and a 3 seed is guaranteed. A 2 seed may come with more top 10 upsets. Based on the carnage of ranked teams last week, more upsets are coming.
Brandon already said UM is planning to host one night game each year. PSU is the only logical 2014 game to do this. I am planning on it - already booked my hotel room.
I don't know why we held out hope for him for so long. It's crazy too - we stopped recruiting other safeties (read: Nicholson) with the hopes of JuJu coming. We need a big time safety with Peppers at corner - and now we likely aren't going to get one in this class.
In this age of social media, we would know if they were recruiting him again. Montae went on 4 officials already - Msu, fsu, Pitt, Oregon. He is scheduled to be back at Msu next week. We need to Stop that and make his last official the osu game.
I got tickets on StubHub in the summer, and I overpaid immensely. In my defense, I drive in from Pittsburgh, and stay the whole weekend, so I don't want to take any chances.
I have been to about 25 games in the past 15 years and I have never seen so many scalpers and low ticket prices. No exaggeration - there were easily 50 scalpers in the Crisler/Big House entrance trying to get rid of several tickets each for dirt cheap.
Also - that stadium was quite empty. There were two seats next to me empty, two seats next to my buddy were empty. There were 3 seats in front of us empty (all in section 4).
I went to the St Clairsville - Martins Ferry game on Friday night. I concur with Mr. Ferns - Michael had a great game. On offense, he ran the ball hard and caught a pass from the tight end position. On defense, he was either in on the tackle, or completely filled his gap so his team could make the tackle. He got hurt in the middle of the 3rd quarter, but came back on the last few drives of the game.
I was at the game with my two sons, and we all had Michigan gear on (in the heart of osu territory). After the game, he came over to us and talked to us for a few minutes. The next day, my son sent a tweet to him, and he responded back. Class act all the way - great football player - better person.
I know Montae's family personally, and was really pulling for him to come to Michigan. He is a great kid - both on and off the football field - wish him all the best. I could sense UM was pressuring him to commit, and I think that turned him off. He wants to wait, take his officials - who can blame him.
PSU, Pitt and Oregon have to to be the leaders for him at this point.
Nicholson will major in (civil) engineering in college. UM had a professor make a huge impression on Hand when he was on campus. Let's do the same for Nicholson at the BBQ this month or on Sept 7.
Any updates from the Chicago Rivals camp this past weekend? I saw a picture of Ferns, Jenkins, Nicholson from the PIT airport. Hopefully Ferns was working his magic to get in the ear of some local Pittsburgh kids. I saw Hand got an MVP award - anything else of note?
I likewise am surprised about the lack of attention Nicholson gets on the board, as I think he would be a huge get.
He is taking his recruiting at a very methodical pace. He has announced no timetable nor no top list among his 30 offers. He did nothing in the spring because of track (where he fared very well). He did ok at the Pittsburgh rivals camp, he blew up the Columbus camp (MVP), he is going to at Chicago rivals camp this week, and will be at The Opening later this summer. I see him flying up the boards as he finishes up these camps. He wants to take all his 5 official visits (I thinkg Oregon and Stanford have him intrigued). The good news is he has stated one visit will be in Ann Arbor for the ND game. Michigan coaches were at his high school a few weeks ago, so they are still pursuing him. I know his family likes the Michigan coaches the best.
Don't forget Montae Nicholson from Michigan also got an invite - he is a possible future commit. He is being recruited as a safety, went to the Columbus camp, and got an MVP award - as a WR! That shows the athleticism of this kid. I think he is on par with Westphal, Smith, Jackson and would be a great addition to the class.
Also - I agree - I think an invite for Ferns is coming, as he had a big day in c-bus.
Huge Raiders fan - was so excited to see him go to Raiders in 98. Was so sad to see him leave Oakland a few years ago. Now over-joyed to see him finish his career in the silver and black. I can wear my Raiders gear with pride - for the first time in years.
I can only shake my head about this, and wonder why the Raiders always mess up their 1st round draft picks. The only one they got right in the past 15 years is Woodson.

My wife and I go there every year for our annual football game trek. She gets a great meal, I get to see a game - it all works out.
I have the same goal - plan to get to the Nebraska game this year. That leaves Northwestern, Maryland, Rutgers for me.

No safeties in the big ten or Mac will be drafted in 2017?
Pumped to finally get a Michigan player in Pittsburgh. Hopefully he can help the pens turn things around.
You have this incorrect under the osu entry:
It won't get that opportunity until November 21, when it travels to East Lansing
I grew up in Ohio so most of my childhood friends were osu fans. I am part of a large catholic family and they are all notre dame fans. So by the time I hit high school I was sick of not fan bases and turned blue.

Me and my 3 kids - we go to the home opener every year. Driving in from Pittsburgh, PA in a few hours.

Love the moves - Brandy is great and Dierdorf is proven.

Thought I saw on Twitter a later post from Brandon saying there was a miscommunication and he was visiting MSU not UM?

Team has played better at night all year. All our recent losses have been in the afternoon (Zona, WIsky, Iowa, Indiana).
The Raiders now have to be the official team of MGOBLOG.
Any team that has Woodson and Woodley on it is a team that I will cheer for.

when ohio loses in any sport - especially when they get upset by a bad team
ND loses Tuitt and Nix
PSU loses Robinson
Indiana loses Latimer
osu loses Shazier
100% - montae will play with a chip on his shoulder when he plays us
Brandon already said UM is planning to host one night game each year. PSU is the only logical 2014 game to do this. I am planning on it - already booked my hotel room.
You have your Gordons mixed up. T Gordon has 2 picks. C Gordon has the forced fumble.
I don't know why we held out hope for him for so long. It's crazy too - we stopped recruiting other safeties (read: Nicholson) with the hopes of JuJu coming. We need a big time safety with Peppers at corner - and now we likely aren't going to get one in this class.

If we have additional scholarships - then we need to go back after Nicholson
The only exceptions on here are Florida in 2017 and Ball State in 2018. Everything else was confirmed by UM yesterday.
great ability to get off blocks and does not miss tackles

What a depressing drive back to Pittsburgh that was. And I am going to the game this Saturday, so history better not repeat itself.
I have a maize M hat signed by Mitch - it is earning more money every day.....

Things change - I am still holding out hope.
I will be in Section 4, row 4 with my 3 kids. We go to the home opener every year. This will be my youngest's first Michigan football game (age 4).
We will take in the golf course tailgating before hand and be in the stadium in plenty of time to see the band.
We are driving from Pittsburgh on Friday night - will be the best weekend of the year.
Can't wait - tick.....tick....tick
Completely agree
1. Malik McDowell
2. De'Shawn Hand
3. Montae Nicholson
4. Parrker Westphal
5. Leonard Fournette
6. late 3 star diamond in the rough
7. late 3 star diamond in the rough
Overall standing, #2

I have met Ferns in person - he is by no means skinny. The word ROCK comes to mind. I have never seen a high school junior built like him.

Being from Pittsburgh, I get really excited when the local kids commit to Michigan. Last year it was Kugler, this year Chase.
Now we need to get Nicholson in the fold too.
I plan to go to both the CMU and Minn games, and I prefer 330 pm start dates when I go to the games, as the tailgating is better.
So here are best guesses on game times:
CMU - 330
ND - 8
Akron - noon
UConn - 330
Minn - 330
PSU - 5
Indiana - noon
MSU - 330
Nebraska - 330
NW - 330
Iowa - 330
OSU - noon
