I came to the comments to say something about “Shield for Minter!” — figured somebody would’ve beat me to it. Right on, Jaggs

Can confirm. Michigan is one…

Can confirm. Michigan is one of those institutions. At least outside of the athletic dept

Or maybe need to give it…

Or maybe need to give it time like Harbaugh and Bielein and most coaches?

Am I off-base to have severe…

Am I off-base to have severe doubts about Naurato? I thought the team underperformed relative to talent on the ice last year, but hoped maybe it was all the disruption early in the year and first-year head coach stuff. This year, they’re clearly radically underperforming the talent level, and it seems to my (radically) untrained eye to implicate the coaching stuff: D zone discipline, and discipline & execution in general. Mental errors all over the place. And obviously the late collapses that come with that. Am I wrong to suspect Naurato is big part of what’s missing/not right with the team last 1.5 seasons?

Defense was amazing. To hold…

Defense was amazing. To hold Wash to 13! Got some help from Penix being off but also pressure to push him off, without sending extra men hardly at all. That made the difference: pressure with 7 in D backfield

Very happy for the boy. All…

Very happy for the boy. All the best to you & your family, Seth. May you have as much joy as you’ve brought all of us

Ok. I give up. These are the…

Ok. I give up. These are the SOL and the same old NFL to F them over even if they should ever lift themselves a little out of it. Wtf

He was down. He threw it 6…

He was down. He threw it 6 inches from the ground into a tackle. How the F. That was a pure travesty. Horrible horrible horrible call

I can’t even blame the SOL…

I can’t even blame the SOL on that. What a horrible call, and you knew it was going to result in some massive injustice. That was complete and utter horseshit

As a 54 year-old Lions fan,…

As a 54 year-old Lions fan, it’s very hard to let go of the SOL sense of foreboding. 9-3 can only mean they’re about to go 9-7 and miss the playoffs. Chicago on the road at 9-3 and getting asses handed to them, plus laundry all over the field, in the first Q = here we go again. And yet… And yet…?

maybe these’re not the SOL? I think I’d better hold off a couple more weeks, just to be safe 🤣

This is fantastic data &…

This is fantastic data & analysis, thanks! Wash, Mich, FSU as overperformers meets the eyeball test excellently.

Two suggestions: if you flip the axes, talent would be the X (explanatory) variable and Wins the Y (outcome) variable. Then if you put a line of best fit through the data arrayed that way, the farther a team was above (below) that line would measure how much that teams was over (under) performing.

Very cool stuff: thanks!

I appreciate the confidence,…

I appreciate the confidence, Brian, but, actually, I really REALLY highly doubt my guess is as good as yours 😂 . Adam Samaha ftw: Go Rats!

On the JJ sacks/scrambles:…

On the JJ sacks/scrambles: it looked to me like his ankle was betraying him. Every first step as he tried to elude the rush was a stumble, his couple of runs to the edge, one designed, he stumbles as soon as he tries to cut. He stumbles himself into at least one of those sacks. His feet were simply not secure; have to assume it’s the injured ankle still not right.

And you also have to assume that will be fully right by the playoff. I expect fully operational JJ juicing the run game & going off-script for passing phenomenally

Don’t get bitter, get better…

Don’t get bitter, get better.

One more quarter of…

One more quarter of fundamentally sound football will do it. 10-0 in a half then 10-0 in a quarter. I’m liking this trend. Stay disciplined

Our O line is really showing…

Our O line is really showing the wear. And this is how Iowa hangs around. Still, 10 pts up, our D is also playing well. Keep fundamentally sound, don’t get impatient on either side of the ball, and we’re good

Right with ya, Brandy. Makes…

Right with ya, Brandy. Makes me nervous too. Good thing I ain’t playing the game, though. These 2023 Wolverines haven’t looked past anyone, and they’re not going to start now. Go Blue!

Hey! Is that “we ain’t…

Hey! Is that “we ain’t played nobody” UNLV there in that conference championship game?

yeah, I know, mountain west, but hey! Good for you, UNLV 😈

I hope not. Getting…

I hope not. Getting linebackers caught chasing speedy receivers slanting across the field sounds like money. As someone noted above, Roman Wilson could/should have a big game

…with the ONLY shield = even…

…with the ONLY shield = even more Iowa

“My only curiosity with this…

“My only curiosity with this game is whether, now that the Ohio State game is in the rearview mirror, Michigan chooses to stop playing their Ohio State defense every week and tailor the game plan to an opponent.”

yep! This is the question — but, my next question would be: and whom do they start practicing defense against? Oregon, UGa, Wash? I imagine they’d try out some things for those guys rather than too much focus on the Iowa “offense”. My next (equally completely uneducated) thought would be: no way you could use Iowa to practice for Wash, so it would have to be for Ore or UGa. Any MGoBloggers or site’s content-producers have insights on what might do to game-time practice for whom?

If you’re seeing this and…

If you’re seeing this and wondering what people are +2’ing so dang much: do yourself a favor: go read Blue Album’s Snitch Who Stole Christmas over in diaries. Pure masterwork, blue. Hat+3

You, sir, are a genius. <hat +3>
I keep trying to post this hat tip:

Or this champaign toast:

but wheel won’t stop spinning. In any case, that right there was pure genius, Blue. Thank you!

I’d like to believe that too…

I’d like to believe that too, but this ranking seems to suggest that if FSU and Wash lose, the top 4 would be UGa-UM-Ore-OSU, which is complete and utter horseshit but that’s what it says. Even if Texas wins, beating #20 doesn’t add much

I read this that if Oregon…

I read this that if Oregon wins and FSU loses, OSU is in. Which is complete horseshit, but that’s what putting them ahead of Texas seems to imply.

This is telling you that if…

This is telling you that if Oregon wins and FSU loses, they would put osu in ahead of Texas. That’s why.

and that is complete and utter horseshit

Wow 🤩 nice pass!

Wow 🤩 nice pass!

Thank you for that! Damn…

Thank you for that! Damn that was a fun watch. Sam was fire 🔥

Keep cryin ryan

Keep cryin ryan

Going to need to loosen them…

Going to need to loosen them up with some misdirection, JJ runs, and Semaj screens

I thought about this, but…

I thought about this, but MHjr may well require that many resources, and still going to get some. Need to keep that some to low-mid tho. It’s also possible you put Mikey on Egbuka and McBurrows & LBs on Stover, and try rolling that way like they did at end of Md game. If were going to do that, tho, wish they’d repped it more over the year. It’s just a tough haul to cover all their skill players. Need DL to get you even there, and then McCord has to not go off despite that. I think he won’t/can’t — as long as our DL keeps showing out like it has done

I think it’s Egbuka (sp?),…

I think it’s Egbuka (sp?), WR2 vs CB2, that’s going to be our biggest problem. You have to double MHjr (at least) and then choice is Wallace largely alone on Egbuka or 1 or 2 men short in the box vs Henderson. Our front 7 have to have one of their best games to keep them 24 or under. Then need OTs at least near holding their own so offense can score 28+. And do all that without a coach and against the all-out nuclear psy ops. If any team can do it, it’s 2023 UM Wolverines, but that’s a lot. This whole bullshitty bullshit pisses me off. Should’ve been a pure football game for the ages, straight up, but it’s been pissed on

I cleared cache on iPhone…

I cleared cache on iPhone and lost my 32-day streak on worLdle 🌍 🤓😩

(but it was worth it to bring MGoBlog to…fully operational!)

“I still think we win, but…

“I still think we win, but we have definitely been stabbed in the back, while many seem to be pretending like it's a fair fight.“

I completely agree with this statement. And it — that all talking heads are talking as if the game will be played on even footing, not even mentioning that hall-of-fame coach is absent (or that OSU has their sign decoder and we do not, nor have we a LB coach) — it all adds up to just one more aspect of bull shit that made this past month and makes this year’s edition of The Game seem fouled like something of the dark in a fantasy novel. The whole air around it smells of acrid bat shit

I do worry that OSU has an…

I do worry that OSU has an excellent WR2 opposite Harrison vs our CB2, an excellent RB, and good+ TE vs our LBs sometimes cover grass. We run out of dudes to cover (& defend run) before they run out of dudes to get open & break off runs. Our D line has to make up for it and make life miserable for McCord who has to not rise above his level heretofore. And/or our offense has to more-than-keep pace.

Tell me “zero, none, no…

Tell me “zero, none, no respect for a tOFU soft mushmello would pull a whiny ass bitch move like that” without saying “zero, none…” 🙀😹

Slight disagree on the non…

Slight disagree on the non-targetings. Seemed both should have been called the same. That is, they should not have picked up the personal foul flag on the Roman Wilson hit, but correct not-targeting for both. Just equally correct both equally PF penalties, in my view.

Does this mean no jumbo sets…

Does this mean no jumbo sets today?

Either scenario seems…

Either scenario seems eminently plausible to me. These are humans, how can they not feel somehow deflated by…all this? And/but then: these humans are almost superhuman, in their focused footballness especially. I can see either happening and then me saying: oh, of course.

just win, and everyone come home healthy

“The University of Michigan…

“The University of Michigan is a valued member of the Big Ten Conference…”

sure doesn’t seem like it

This is clearly a “please don’t leave” statement, but what did we get for backing off that threat? Nothing verifiable seems certain, at least.

I just don’t understand what could be the missing info here.

Yeah, but also 50% of the…

Yeah, but also 50% of the relevant season, right?

Is the “Wilson” at end of…

Is the “Wilson” at end of intro, listing DBs, supposed to be “Wallace”? I assume.

Yay for UFRs! can’t wait to dig into this!

Fair

Fair

Not very interested in…

Not very interested in arguing about other teams' players, but as of couple weeks ago or so, Chop's pass rush success per pff = about 83% and JTT's about 81.5%. (Had to google, don't subscribe, this is what I found from Oct 17 or 24 or so.) I'll stand by the nearly on a par. But, whatever: other teams' players and anyway with just one elite pass rusher is VERY different than 2+, so PSU clearly better whatever that one individual comparison.

In fairness, I think we knew…

In fairness, I think we knew the answer to: can Barnhart block a high first-round edge? was going to be a resounding no. We were hoping it was “I mean, maybe a little bit?”, but found out immediately it was “no, not even a little bit”, so: adjusted and we were fine. And yet, even before we (rightly!) put passing game back on the plane home, JJ was 7 for 8. Didn’t need to risk him to win, so didn’t. Just smart football, Sherrone: <approving nod or hat tip gif>

JTT is completely a dude…

JTT is completely a dude. Chop Robinson level dude maybe even. Rest of D line, tho? I think you’re right. One D line stud is 1000% more manageable than 2+? You’re completely right, with full certainty

Point taken, but he said the…

Point taken, but he said the jumbo set was in the playbook since summer. Not that it was the plan to run it for most of PSU game since summer. We did not know in the summer how hopeless their offense would be. In fact, then one had to expect at least average, with 2 really good RBs and an improved O line even if Allar was still as bad as he looked against us last year. Also knew their edges were 1 all world and rest good but not 1 all world, 1 an NFL lock, and third trending that way.

also made me think: JTT may be near Chop Robinson’s league, but does tOFU (oh, the bland mushy softness) have as strong other side and rest of D? I don’t think so. That was best D we’ll play this past Saturday, not the one after next.

1) UGa — made even more…

1) UGa — made even more convincing argument with thrashing #9

2) UMich — common opponents, all but PU have us better & ours mostly on the road, & this last w/ all the bullshit

3) OSU — b/c just short (like in 2016) on the above comparisons

 4) UWash — just keeps beating teams that make even better resume than supposedly top resume of…

5) FSU — UWash better resume

6) Oregon — reason previous two in that order

7) Texas

8) Alabama

last two in that order, because on the field

Early 4th down & short go vs…

Early 4th down & short go vs OSU was when he blew that game. Big QB, just sneak it. Idiot tried some out pass or something & blew it. They were chasing from behind that whole game after also.

Jesse Minter is best DC in…

Jesse Minter is best DC in country.

Gotta clean up allowing those late game face-saving scores tho \s

Partly \s : Up 2 scores with 5min left, against a good team, Minter went NFL and bled clock down the field. Looking to stop them, of course, but clock more important. In college, the point spread matters tho. But, come to think of it though: this year, a couple times against the overmatched, he did get after it to preserve the spread, and got burned a couple-few times, so, yeah, actually, like I was saying:

Jesse Minter is pure genius, I've not even nits to pick
